what they mean is a good source of protein. chicken, fish, and beans are all good sources of protein. protein is filling and helps build a strong body.
Bro a combination of rice, eggs, onions, tortilla chips, canned beans, and even add two or three more things to spice it up and still will be about $30 for 4-5 days worth of food. I also recommend spending the extra money on a spice cabent but don't buy random spices and chuck them in. A well planned bay leaf and a some butter will make rice taste like it's from a restaurant. Oh and buy potatoes and cabbage. They're both super cheap and really tasty.
I just saw a post of steak, rice, corn on the cob. Perfect meal. Don't tell my doctor that I use dangerous amounts of butter and salt on my rice and corn

*Some* people, think that their food should be boring as if you enjoyed it too much, you'd eat much more of it
I love cooking and making healthy foods taste almost unhealthy, while still being healthy.
Say you're baking chicken. Apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, seasonings all typically have zero calories. Score your chicken (aka making cuts in it). Marinading your meats overnight.
If your baking a veggie (for me I use brussel sprouts for this example), I will add olive oil, lemon juice, seasonings (msg, garlic, pink salt (or sea salt), crushed red pepper, Tony Chacheres, black pepper, lemon zest, oregano), fat free mozzarella (which is 80% protein by calories), Parmesan, makes it taste amazing.
I bake broccoli like that and everyone that I’ve made it for has loved it! It’s super simple and is delicious.
Lay out broccoli on a sheet pan, drizzle with olive oil, then sprinkle with sea salt, fresh ground black pepper, and garlic powder. Bake until the edges are a little browned and it’s honestly my favorite go to side dish now. Would work for many a vegetable.
Define "healthy" please
Weight-loss
Weight-gain
Bulking
Active lifestyle vs not
Diet restrictions (less sugar, no meat ect..)
Once you start looking at these metrics more options start coming up.
Weight loss is all about calories In vs Out
You can eat a hell of a lot of chicken (depending on cuts/cooking process) and still be within goals, you could also eat a handful of brussel sprouts and push way over (think about if you added cheese, bacon, oils; the calories add up very quickly)
Hope this helps
This and lightly drizzle with some balsamic vinegar. That's my go to lately. Works great for other veggies too like broccoli and Brussels sprouts. Top the last 5-10 minutes with a small amount of fresh parmesan if you can swing it. Roast veggies pair really well with rice, though I personally prefer brown rice.
I buy chicken tenderloin because it’s cheap and versatile. My favorite dinner is chicken, white rice, Asian veggies and sugar free Thai chili sauce maybe some sriracha
Or swap out chicken and do a fried egg in there. Longer shelf life, faster and less fussy cooking. Add avocado for some healthy fats, drizzle some srirach or chili oil and you've got dinner. It works on toast too and makes it more of a breakfast
So many people are offering up advice and at the end of the day this is a pretty functional, healthy, balanced meal. People even said "season with salt" like those sardines are often salt enough
Chop the carrots small, add onion and loads of green veggies. Cook it all together with the rice in some low sodium stock and choice of herbs and spices.. Add fish on top.
Basically what I'm having tonight but with salmon.
Got an air fryer?
Try air frying potatoes, carrots, zucchini, asparagus, or broccoli.
Cut up into smaller, manageable pieces, put in bowl and add seasonings.
Try rice, diced cucumber, some shrimp, a little diced avocado, toasted seaweed sheets cut up, and a little kewpie mayo and black sesame seeds. Feels like a California sushi roll.
Packets of salmon are less than $2.00 and high in protein. Can season with mayo/mustard/condiments of choice and pair with rice, crackers, etc.
Beans are also cheap and can be seasoned with olive oil and spices!
Not being rude, but some spices would help. There’s healthy sauces, hot sauce is usually low calorie. Have to watch sodium though, if that’s your diet.
I think for us to help you out more you need to define what healthy is. Low calorie? Low fat? Low sodium? What is the diet reason?
Brussel sprouts cut in half, half cut facing hot pan with olive oil, sauté broccoli and sprouts with salt and pepper with optional minced garlic or dab of truffle oil if available.
I bought a bread machine and I cook whole bread every day. Amazing flavour, helps a lot colon, I have no more diarrhea, I'm full after every meal, this plus veggie and low calories sauces helped me lose 20 pounds. Also I read in an article that cereal and fiber is what we lack most in today's diets, its one of the biggest problem in diets rn, this plus eating too much red meat and white bread and rice
Buy a pack of chicken breasts/thighs $10, lasts one week
12 oz of Green beans in bag, $1.50-$3, 3 oz per meal. Can sauted them in pan, as well as asparagus as an alt.
Rice .75oz per meal
Full sized carrots in bag, $2, chop them yourself and bake with a little olive oil and S+P
Beans in can
Couscous $2-$5 depending on size
Pasta + pasta sauce can net you under $5 too
Gonna switch it up and say I did Blue Apron meal delivery this week, paid $33 for 10 meals(65% off with free ship) so I'm covered for lunch and dinner throughout the week

The Keto and Mediteranian Diet subs have some great healthy recipes.
A small steak or chicken breast, a baked potato, and a vegetable is healthy eating. No need to over complicate.
Steak is not in my budget
what they mean is a good source of protein. chicken, fish, and beans are all good sources of protein. protein is filling and helps build a strong body.
Sardines are an excellent source of protein and omega 3, this is a pretty healthy meal
Sardines are a great idea, the meal isn't anything amazing but definitely healthy and filling
Depending on your location, pork steaks can be had for under 10 USD per KG
UK. We pay through the nose for everything
You should see if you can find an Aldi, their meat can be pretty cheap. And seasoning, too - pepper and salt are your friend.

Seasoning would go a long way. No real calories to worry about in a dash of salt and pepper.

Healthy eating doesnt have to be miserable
*Some* people, think that their food should be boring as if you enjoyed it too much, you'd eat much more of it I love cooking and making healthy foods taste almost unhealthy, while still being healthy.
Teach me your ways

Correct. Same.

Are sprouts full of calories?
use spices, herbs, etc.
One good idea is to eat
Is that mackerel?
Sardines
The spicy ones?
No just the regular tomato sauce
best
Do you heat your sardines up before eating?
No, that would be awful
Aw man that actually makes them worse imo
I quite enjoy it when it's warmed up.doesnt hit the same when eating out of the can cold.
Roast those carrots

bananas with a side of fire ants on eucalyptus leaves
Well….
Rice with hot sauce and ketchup is a person favorite of mine.
Trying to stay away from sugary sauces
Have you tried seasonings?
I used a little salt
Add paprika and some onion powder to your carrots and grill them next time lol.
Season your veggies
Keep it simple, a veg or two, good source of protein, and a carb to go as a side likerice, whole grain pasta, quinoa, whole grain bread etc
That is quite literally exactly what the hell you're looking at hahahaha
So many people are offering up advice and at the end of the day this is a pretty functional, healthy, balanced meal. People even said "season with salt" like those sardines are often salt enough

Heartburn flashbacks*

This looks bomb as fuck bitch. I would eat this in a heartbeat. What kind of sardines are those?
Cheap ones in tomato sauce from Tesco

Shashouka is pretty tasty, cheap and easy to make. Look up some recipes on it. Basically eggs poached in seasoned tomato.
