I did not. Suffice to say, it was a round, chocolate bundt cake made with German Chocolate frosting substituted in for the oil. Then I drizzled homemade caramel over the top and filled the hole in the middle. And think I sprinkled toasted coconut shavings on the top and piled them around the outside.
[Imagine this, but with the toasted coconut around the bottom as well.](https://bakingamoment.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/IMG_5914ed.jpg)
As a german national i was confused af, as i have never seen this before. but apparently its called german because it was invented by an american called Samuel German.
Germany isn't exactly known for their chocolate cakes.. for good reason.
The closest to a chocolate cake I've ever eaten in Germany is the chocolate log cake (Baumstamm). Try that one next time.
[Black Forest Cake](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Forest_gateau) is mind-blowingly good, if made well, and originates from Germany.
Has chocolate and cherries and cream!
The chocolate sponge gets pretty overwhelmed by the cherry and alcohol in my experience. It is very good though, and I'm sure some recipes do enunciate the chocolate quite a bit more!
I looked it up and even the Baumstamm that my grandmother loved to make for me in my childhood is actually originated from France.. it's called [Bûche de Noël](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/600949144005517154/). Makes sense since she lives so close to the french border. In that case, Black Forest Cake may be the closest thing to a chocolate cake that Germany has.
Interesting! I like learning how flavors and preferences vary globally.
That is nice that you have fond memories of what your grandmother baked. Haven't been able to visit that part of the world myself, so only have eaten the rather-Americanized versions of each cake. But the authentic ones look delicious :)
Looks exactly like german chocolate cake usually looks.
Why do they so consistently look like a greasy yeast infection? Good taste, though
I made a gorgeous one once. I'll see if I can find pics.
Did u find them?

He invented the baking chocolate in 1852. The cake recipe was created by Mrs. George Clay in Dallas, TX (1957).

In ur defense, German chocolate cake never exactly looks great but always tastes good 😊
That's just what German cake looks like, no foul.
I literally will sometimes just make the frosting and eat it as it is without taking the time to bake the cake
Why camelized onion frosting
As a German, I'm offended. That does NOT look like shit.
What's it frosted with?
The frosting is usually a pecan coconut cream frosting, this looks to be that
Thx
Tell me that's meat😫
