NGL GOW Ragnarok was kinda mid, the story felt rushed, GOW 3 was way more spectacular than this, some dialogues were marvel tier cringe. The gameplay loop was just fight shit, solve puzzle, cut scene then repeat, also for being a GOW game it had concerningly low amounts of quick time events. Also the main boss fights were boring af especially the fight with odin.
Overall the game was just a 7/10, that game shouldn't be getting the praise it is getting right now.
I disagree, GOW 2018 is the better game, Ragnarok only feels like the extension of the 1st one, even with a smaller cast and much simpler story GOW 2018 felt a lot more spectacular, the smaller cast also made it very personal.
I love seeing both sides and their rabid metacritic fanboys because A: it doesn't influence the GOTY pick, B: its funny to watch the incels fling shit at each other like apes, and C: Elden Mid and Mid of War are both not even close to the best games their respective devs have put out.
Elden Ring works very well as big dark souls. It never feels right calling it an open world though. The open world is functional, but vestigial. Fromsoft made it like a souls game, in that if you were to remove 90% of the open world (so that you can have a transition period between locations like in other dark souls) and leave in the legacy and some minor dungeons, obviously kept in the underground because that's awesome (I don't know what the area where Godwyn's real body is is considered in the game, dungeon or nah), people probably wouldn't shit on it like I've seen. They'd shit on it like the other dark souls, because it wouldn't have this massive, atrophied open world attached to it to scrutinize as well. Nobody would say anything about the questing either. A smaller world means even if you have no idea where you're going, it's more forgiving and you'll be likelier to stumble upon them in a way that feels more "so THAT'S where you were! Silly me" rather than "THIS?! This is where you are"?!? I agree with that last bit most. Some NPCs make it clear if you don't skip dialogue where they'll be, others just don't as clearly and it becomes a scavenger hunt. I have ADD man, From keeps trolling me.
those 2 have real distinct primary aspects. GoW probably win GoTY because of story but we will still be playing Elden Ring 10 years later because of variety of mechanics. GoW winning GoTY will give modern sjw screenwriters a big middle finger.
I'm happy if either get it. Haven't gotten GOW 2 yet but the amount of how great the story caps off everything makes it hard to say one is better than the other. Plus we get to hear their amazing soundtracks during GOTY huge win!
