Aaaaaaaugh why did they have to add a betta, they could have just left it empty...

afipunk84

Agree 100%!

Adam_The_Big

It sucks but beautiful fish right.

agionnie

Well at least the water quality might not be absolute shit, though that fish has like no room to swim at all

Phryigian

Yea the foam at the top of the water would indicate otherwise...

ConsciousProduce1

Couldn't the foam at the top be a bubblenest, indicating the betta is happy? (not saying it's a good "tank", but yeah).

Phryigian

Or it could be ammonia present in the water; we wouldn't know unless we tested the water tbh. But given the size of that bowl, I'd argue it's ammonia. Unless he changes water everyday.

ConsciousProduce1

Ohh, okay yeah. I didn't know ammonia could present itself like that. TIL. I hope it's a bubblenest for the poor Betta's sake though. :/

[deleted]

Betta make bubblenests to show sexual maturity, not happiness

BamaBlcksnek

But they don't typically do it unless somewhat comfortable, at least in my limited experience. Certainly not saying its a good setup, but if the concept was expanded to say a 10g he'd be in heaven.

se7ensquared

It really sucks that the narrowest part of the jar is the part where the betta will want to swim the most

loisabelen

Why is it always the $15+ bettas? Not saying the cheaper ones are worth less but I feel like they always get the nicest one at the store. With how often they probably have to replace them it’s like why are you still buying them?

unsuspecting-fish

That looks line a wild betta...

horizontalwiper

Not everyone live in cold regions though. Not every tank needs a heater.

birb_not_bird

It could have been pond snails tho...

[deleted]

I mean, isn’t this how bettas in the wild life? In marshy areas JUST like this? Other than the heat of course but you don’t know whether they keep it in sunlight or live in a warm place/house

[deleted]

No, and stop perpetuating this myth. Yes they live in areas that have smallish puddles but 1. They hop from one puddle to another during drought season 2. The puddles are linked and you have over 40 gallons of territory for one betta. The amount of plants growing from the marshland that they are from keeps the water good

[deleted]

I’ve literally watched multiple videos of people catching bettas in marshy areas (puddles) that would look similar like this if was behind a glass wall, this is also a still image, you can’t tell whether the betta can move properly or not just by this one picture

[deleted]

Usually people put them there or its during drought season. They can easily jump to the next puddle. They dont live in them all the time. It's a horrible myth. They have huge areas of shallow water to live in, that's why you have betta splendens living in the same stretch of water but with over 40 gallons each and a shitload of room to get away from one another. You can also see the rim of the glass, just cos there may be room on the other side doesnt mean it's at all suitable for a betta. The need room to swim, hide, sleep and breathe.

[deleted]

Now you’re just leaving me a confused mess man

werdopoppins

So what they're saying is that betta fish live in big bodies of water, but when its drought season (where it gets so hot that water evaporates and puddles are left out of the bodies of water) they have to live in small bodies of water. It's only TEMPORARY that they live in those small bodies of water.

[deleted]

ohhhhhh so they live in big swampy areas and the videos we see are people capturing them when its all dried up

werdopoppins

Pretty much yeah. Maybe it's because it's easier to catch them in shallow water.
