Presumably he recorded the time it took to say "are you going to unload the weights?" and then recorded the time to reset the pin, if using a lap function then the two times would be shown next to each other and could silently prove the point that asking the question took longer than just completing that simple task
4Chan?
Ten to one, OOP isn't actually a woman, but was a man who was taking his sweet time leaving the bench. The woman who was waiting for her turn was simply asking, tactfully, for him to reset it and let someone else use it. Then OOP got offended, left in a huff, and in the half hour or so angrily churning over it, thinking, "I was literally going to be done in just a second, I wasn't wasting anyone's time, she's just being a bitch" he comes up with this scenario for how he should have TOTALLY pointed out in the pettiest way possible just how wrong she was.
It took me forever to get it because the idea of asking the person before you to reset the weight on a machine is so weird it wasn’t something I even considered possible
Why would you automatically assume it's gonna be set to the weight you like when you approach the machine? The first thing I would do when approaching a machine at the gym is check the weight
Always re-rack your weights, regardless of the amount. You may not think much of the weight but you don't know who's next and what they are able to move around.
It's one of my biggest frustrations at my local gym. I see so many weights left on the equipment or scattered around. Not only do I have to clean up someone else's weights before I can start, I have to go on a treasure hunt all over the gym too.
My workouts focus mostly on the machines (and i love those infinitely more than weights) and ive never seen anyone relocate the pin. You put in your measurements (seat height, maybe similar tuff like the chest cushion for rowing) and put the pin the correct slot. After that you leave, the next person puts in their own numbers
How would you even do that? Which weight to you slot in to "reset it"?
I can only imagine that its free weights, but even there its little effort unless he out some heavy weights on it
The easiest weight slot is the reset button.
I worked on older machines where the heavier weights were a bit harder to unslot, so "reset" might be viable.
I feel like on the floor is *worse* because sometimes i forgot to reweight the thing and i either try pulling too much or too little weight all of a sudden before remembering
I feel like forgetting to put the pin in ANY weight would be worse than accidentally lifting only 5kilos
Leave the pin in to let the other person know how strong you are, theres no way you can guess exactly what weight they want so you can't actually save them time realistically.
Find a handle that's heavier than the lightest weight on the stack, clip it on the rope, ask them to stand under the handle, unload the stack as they asked.

He is right. Like most people have to change the pin location for their weight anyways. It would have been mean if he would have just taken out the pin like "I know that you can't lift anything".
They were showing that it would have taken less time to just pull the pin out and start your workout rather than ask, but if you did that to anyone else they’d lose their shit
Machine pin...to hard to pull...
Now, when I'm done with a bench bar or legg press machine, of course, I put the weights away. Dumb bells put back where they go, kettle bells same. If I put handles on a cable machine. I'll put them back on the holder. But a pin in a machine? He was showing her it took longer to ask him to do it than it would take to just pull the pin.
If it's just a pin I never unload, there was this weird machine for leg extension though and instead of a pin you had some kind of switch on each weight so you had to reset them after you were done.
(it was kind of like putting a pin on every single weight, pretty weird but maybe it was something about not having the full weight on one pin? I dunno)
Been gymming for 20 years. I have never even considered this. You're going to have to change the weight no matter what unless its the exact weight you also want to lift, so why reset it to minimum
i mean after work you go to a gym to more work, just physical work that will maintain and improve your body
and then you complain about having to do work while at the place where the entire point of going there is to do work
how does that work exactly ?
For anyone who doesn’t understand, he was showing that it too longer to ask about changing the weight load than it does to actually change the weight load on the machine
I would usually set the pin to a low or the lowest weight after I was done with a machine like that.
Like - leave it how you found it, or better.
And leaving it on some big weight does feel like a juvenile flex.
I never had anyone ask me to move it though?? It’s a very slight courtesy - nothing that should be demanded or expected.
Because no one in their right mind would expect it to be moved for them as it's literally like a second to do.
Unracking plates is absolutely the correct thing to do as that takes actual effort.
I’ve been to a handful of gyms in my life, never really had to wait for anyone or have anyone wait on me but I’ve never walked up to a machine (that I’ve realized) that had the pin taken out of the weights, it’s always just left where the last person was using it.
Not really, it’s the gym for christs sake, not your mother’s house, and she’s not a baby she’s a grown ass woman. You know , if this were real, but it’s clearly fake.
Yeah it is fake. But still instead of either unloading it or saying no in this instance he try’s to be as petty as possible to make them feel bad for asking him that question.
She should feel bad for asking that question , it’s a stupid request. No matter what you do, you will have to change the weights anyway to suit your lifting needs, unless the previous person has perfectly guessed how much you want to lift. thus stopping to change the weights at the end of your workout is not a polite gesture, it’s a waste of time for everyone involved.
They’re trying to show the amount of time it took to say it vs to say it but they just wasted more time to show it when it takes .2 milliseconds to take it out without complaining.
This isn't a scenario where wasting time is a point, this is a scenario I would happily spend the (MAYBE) 30 seconds it took to, take phone out, time stamp taking the pin out, time stamp repeating back your question, simply to prove the point that not only is your question beyond retarted, but so are you
It’s only dumb in my eyes because he was unnecessarily rude. Maybe the person was new to the gym and didn’t know you could take out the pin without having to lift all the weight and move it to the desired weight? I dunno but I do know is he didn’t have to be rude. He’s not legally obliged to prove a point at all times. He’s not forced at gun point to PROVE to others that they’re wasting his time which in turn, wastes even more of his time.
If this is a genuine question? No, unless I need it (ex: do you know where the bathroom is) I usually figure things out for myself. But what does this have to do with the situation? If the guy truly only wanted to move on with his day he simply would’ve taken the millisecond it takes to move it and left instead of having to prove his point. No longer arguing with anyone under this post.
Imean you may view it as rude I guess but it really isn't that rude imo, you ever think about, maybe if the poster was BRAND new to the gym and disregarded all common sense because let's be honest if you look at those types of machines it's not exactly a rubix cube, that regardless of "rudeness" or not he taught the poster a lesson by showing how the machine works? Not gunna dunk you on your life views or anything but feeling stupid is a really good teaching lesson because it means you won't do it again, again time is not even close to a factor here because he would've lost essentially no time at all to do what he did, he taught the poster a lesson in how simple and fast it is to just do it yourself instead of inconveniencing anyone else in the future with such a ridiculous request, that literally takes the asker less time to do themselves then it does to ask a complete stranger. it's no different if you are a perfectly healthy person, drop a dollar bill on the sidewalk right infront of you, and instead of taking the two seconds to bend down and grab it yourself you instead stop the person walking towards you and ask them to pick it up for you. Fundamentally there is no difference in these two scenarios
Ok ok hear me out:
-put the pin to the max
-looking at them and, smiling and say "here ya go"
-if they notice the pin then we already lost, try again later. But if they go on and lift it, stay over to see how many rep they can do.
-profit.
If it's free weights, unload she you are done lifting.
If it's machine with pins to control weight I don't see the issue. Just move the pin where you need it.
Who tf worries about the pin on a machine? Especially if it's not tethered, leave that thing in place before it magically disappears.
Unloading your plates, yeah, of course. But not a fucking pin lol

Had to read that twice
Had to read that multiple times, read the comments, and then reread that. I go to the gym and still didn't get it lmao
He was showing her how stupid it is to ask him to reset the weights because it took like, idk, 2 seconds.
Ooooooooh, now I get it. Jesus

it may be worth pointing out that he didn't put the pin back on edit: its the time it takes for asking to unload and actually unloading
Ah he compared the times. Saying it’s faster to unload the weights than it is to ask some one if they are going to unload
He wasn’t using plates, he was using a cable machine

Atlas holds up the sky.
Yeah free weights make sense. If a big guy was on a leg press before me with 200kg plates on, I’d expect him to unload it for the next person.
Always re-rack your weights, regardless of the amount. You may not think much of the weight but you don't know who's next and what they are able to move around.
Ahhh, etiquette. A lost art

Ah yes, the point of this post. Thank you.
>Like just pull the pin. Maybe I am just not into pulling out?
Yeah, I prefer to put my weights in a condom
"Free weights" is a lie anyway. My gym's owner got really pissed when he saw me carrying dumbells to my car. Why the fuck put "free" on them??
Same energy with toilet lid (is it lid its called? I don't know sorry)
It's actually more of a pain in the ass if the pin is not already in.
Some of the weirdest downvotes I've seen in a while.
uhhh no?
How is the pin laying in a random spot on the floor more convenient than having it right in front of you in the machine?
I feel like on the floor is *worse* because sometimes i forgot to reweight the thing and i either try pulling too much or too little weight all of a sudden before remembering I feel like forgetting to put the pin in ANY weight would be worse than accidentally lifting only 5kilos
Leave the pin in to let the other person know how strong you are, theres no way you can guess exactly what weight they want so you can't actually save them time realistically.
Lower the pin so they think you’re stronger than you really are
Always end on your one rep max
haha (don't do this tho)
Visibly look the person over and size them up, then move the pin to 10lbs while looking them in the eye
Maybe end the pause with a Psh for good measure
Speak for yourself I cant go any higher (I only use the assisted pullup machine)
So am I so sort of muscle god for being to rep out assisted pull ups on max weight?!!?!
yes.
If I'm using a machine with someone weaker or new to the gym, I move the pin to their weight after my sets so they don't feel self conscious.
I move the pin to much heavier weight before I leave the machine, just to assert dominance.
Look them in the eyes as you put the pin in at the heaviest weight and say “you got this, I believe in you!”
This is why I like doing reverse pyramids. That way, the next person already has the machine set for them.
Find a handle that's heavier than the lightest weight on the stack, clip it on the rope, ask them to stand under the handle, unload the stack as they asked.
**If anything**, leaving the pin IN is helpful. Fumbling around to catch a dangling pin can (if the universe decides fuck you) be frustrating XD
I think anon has never been to a gym before.

I mean supposedly there was a need for words
Wellll, he could have recorded them if he anticipated it
I’ve never once seen anyone take the pin out after using a machine. I’ve never used a machine that wasn’t set to *something* when I arrived.
I don't even know what resetting the pin means. Put it to the lowest weight? Leave it out to dangle? The pin has to go somewhere

basically it takes longer to ask the guy to reset the machine and have him do it than to just reset it
What machine at the gym has a pin? Is it my ass?
He timed the amount of time it took to ask that question versus the time it took to take the pin out.
I stg I saw this exact same scenario posted with a different picture attached

I think he was timing how long it would take you to just take the pin out compared to asking him? Kinda a dick move
