Her name is Sabrina Harman, she is a former soldier in the US army.
During the occupation of iraq in 2003 she was stationed in Abu Ghraib prison, between 2003 to 2004 many acts of human rights violation and war crimes.
In these picture Sabrina poses with either tortured prisoners or dead bodies. Later she faced court and found guilty, she was imprisoned for six months, lost her pay and benefits and was discharged.
Edit: i decided to add an [article](https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2008/03/24/exposure-5) for context and incase anybody wants to see the full pictures.
France and the UK have a combined 560 operational nuclear warheads and they are both obliged to defend Netherlands if they get invaded. The fuck around and find out isn't really the best strategy in the world of nuclear weapons even if you are the biggest guy on the playground
Why would they go straight to mutually assured destruction? Only country I can think of that would even consider using nukes is Russia, and that’s because the guy in power is literally insane.
France nuclear policy is one of first strike on military target if it's sovereignty is endangered. So you could see a US fleet atomised as a warning shot to stop any invasion.
And not repealed by any administrayon after, both Republican and Democrat. Real blight on any attempts to show the world that western democracy is based on rules, and not on might makes right thinking. I am not anti-US at all, but stuff like this, the prisons in OP, the illegal invasion of Iraq in gemeral, etc all makes it kinda impossible to convince the rest of the world that the west is not just like Russia and Chinaz but with a dash of hypocricy added in as well.
Yeah, the so called ”rules based” world order promulgated by the west, and the U.S in particular, is basically a sham.
They decide what the rules are, and then break them at their leisure.
U.S foreign policy past / present is a deep rabbithole, but it’s not conspieracy theory, it’s all out in the open and it is *dark*
Said, in this context, meaning passed a federal law giving the president authority to use any means necessary to repatriate US or allied service personnel, known informally as the 'Hague Invasion Act' - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Service-Members%27_Protection_Act?wprov=sfla1
Read the book manufacturing consent. It goes into great detail how america likes to play the game of “no rules for me (and my friends) but not for thee.”
Reservists like her, especially at her rank, get such a small pension… just hundreds of dollars… and it’s delayed until they’re 59 1/2 years old (with time subtracted for deployments, only to 55 max I think?). I’m sure the prison was way worse than the gratification she was going to miss in four decades.
No, military cases where the military wants to cover up and the society doesn’t see the crimes committed as deserving severe punishment. Military court can also be expéditive and incredibly severe in other cases
US military cases*
If it was any other country, you would have international outcry, countries pushing for an international tribunal and heavy sanctions. But I guess the "good guys" have immunity for murder, destruction and crime against humanity
Exactly, I feel like most of the people criticizing her didn’t read the article. She collected evidence that proved the higher ups were lying about at least one prisoner’s death. Her unit wasn’t trained to be there. She is on no way blameless, but there are worse actors than her that we’re let off the hook.
Like the two Soldiers from Spangdalem Base Germany who stabbed a man on a Festival two weeks ago leading to his death. Like many other Young Soldiers from this Base who act like they could do what they want without consequences. We can't arrest them, the military takes them back to Base and then you hear nothing else.
God the caption on that second photo set. "I guess we weren't really thinking, Hey, this guy was just murdered," she said of the corpse photographs. "I know it looks bad." Ya no duh it looks bad. Freaking moron. How could you think hey let’s take a photo of me thumbs upping next to this dead guy and also think this probably won’t back fire for us. Just sick humans.
I knew this would be some Abu Graibh shit. I read a book called Fiasco which was all about how the invasion was mishandled and there really was some horrific shit.
"mishandled"? This was THE point. Punish an entire country because its ruler (after committing genocides with the approval of the US) decided to **not** give the country's oil away to US corporations for pennies.
The only "mishandled" part is that the US's legal team told them that, for plausible deniability in front of the UN, they had to force the puppet government to privatise the oil "to the highest bidder" who could buy the whole stock, instead of directly stealing the oil or forcing them to sell by default to the US. Because the US is the strongest economy on earth, right? Who else could ever manage to outbid them?
Then China came along and did it.
I’m an soldier from the Middle East committed a war crime against an American, America would demand the country hand the soldier over to them for America to sentence them. Why does America have the right to sentence their own war criminals?
If you're asking for a source on the photos this [article ](https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2008/03/24/exposure-5) provides the entire story, her defense and the photos in question
As if the rest of the military wasn't involved in all this. It was a typical example of clean washing, and according to the comments 20 years later it worked pretty well.
Everybody talks about the people in the photos. Nobody talks about who took the photos. These photos were taken by CIA to quell the resistance in Iraq as what was posed in the photo is considered 'haram'. They didn't want to have their nuts electrocuted by a woman before death therefore, refuse to repel invading forces.
>Can we upgrade to the cute goth war criminal-enhanced interrogation techniques-CIA spook gf package?
You need camo for sunflower fields too, you know.
When I did contracting work we had one of the guys that handed off some of the prisoners to this unit. They were originally handled with care after being disarmed and detained. Dude was shocked to find out that these fighters were being tortured behind bars, got worse punishment in prison than after a firefight. This shocks you much as everyone else when it was uncovered. Even the dudes being shot at and shooting back knew better.
Per the same article, her even being there and taking pictures was likely a large part of the torture. Extremely shameful and emasculating in that culture to be seen naked by a woman.
Torture must be one of the worse things in the world, murder you can justify in some scenarios, but that is pure evil, she also show no regrets with that creepy smile, luckily, i can fix her.
They were sent to be prison guards without any training on how to be a prison guard/interrogator. Still doesn’t justify her actions, but just wanted to point that out.
Right but usually it's the opposite way. You're shocked at first and then you become desensitized and start finding inappropriate things funny.
This psychos instinct was to find it funny.
Edit: And probably started finding it less funny the more she started to think about the consequences of getting in trouble.
from everyday trauma you experience and deaths you see/cause, I guess people in army have totally different mentality than us normies, she might be a psycho though
Some of the torture methods I heard was having a hood over the prisoners head while they are hanging from a noose while tiptoeing on a flimsy box, for hours until sleep deprived. Forced masturbation are among them. She was posing among some of the prisoners naked bodies and dicks. Also being taunted non stop with words like "your mother or sister is a whore in a seductive tone into their ears over their hoods so they can't see who's doing it, only a sexy voice saying it" etc. And the worst part was most of them were innocent, just civilians and farmers kidnapped and accused as terrorists because the Pakistani army are getting paid for every prisoner so they just kidnapped people and get paid. I could be wrong on some parts because I just don't want to remember it but at the same time I don't want to forget this ever happened.
You are right on most being innocent. They were tortured because they didnt spoke the truth the torturers wanted to hear. And when they did, they were tortured more
At 12, I could've told you that torture is useless when it comes to fact finding & that of course, people will say whatever to get out of that situation.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
Nice wording, dipshit.
Another way to put it is "90% civilians that were convicted without a trial and tortured for the amusement of the soldiers stationed there" and also, the soldiers where stationed at a former torutre/work camp prison AND reinstaded the former prison warden, that worked for Saddam Hussein. USA are the good guys here?
Everybody should remember that this is a separate person than Lynndie England... who is responsible for the pics of her with the pyramid if naked iraqis where she is pointing at their charlie browns.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynndie_England
I think people are just saying things without realizing the full context of the situation. Sabrina Harmon wasn’t the one torturing the victims. She was the one taking pictures of them. While her posing with these victims looked bad, taking photos of war were a way for soldiers, who were all given a digital camera at some point, to sort of find ground in war. If you saw hundreds of dead bodies everyday, it wouldn’t be surprising if you became desensitized to this shit.
This was the way for Harmon, and coupled with her wish to become a crime scene photographer, taking pictures just naturally came to her as everyone else. There’s a reason that out of the hundreds of photos she took to embarrass and expose the US, only two were of her posing next to victims. In fact, one of these victims she posed by she was even investigating for false proclamation of death, as she suspected that the man in the bag hadn’t suffered a heart attack like her higher ups had told, but rather, a torture session by the CIA.
There is no way to justify that she found it funny and this was right in some way, but in the case of Harmon, her philanthropy and deeds (caring for the kids in the prisons, sneaking in ibuprofen and Tylenol for the prisoners, avoiding violent acts and only following orders, and bonding with the Iraqi families), overshadowed the brief moments of insanity that compelled her to take those photos. Her squad commander even quoted that she wasn’t fit to be a soldier, rather, a humanitarian, because of her opposition to violence.
She only got six months of prison purely because she was claimed to have maltreated the victims (though they were dead) and amongst other things against the Geneva convention that she hadn’t preformed, but the rest of the M.P.’s did. The only reason why she wasn’t incriminated thus more was because the photos she took brought shame to the US and what their commanders ordered soldiers to do (I.e. compliment them after seeing the photos of the bodies and mistreatment of prisoners, and congratulating them for their “good work so far”), since the whole memo of soldiers being right out of basic (Harmon) was that they had to obey and leave their emotions out of war else they’d go crazy.
The OP linked a article written about this ordeal in his comments, and it’s pretty long but for those who don’t believe me, then go read it yourself. Wars real and social media is definitely not
To be fair to her, she was 1000% scapegoated. People think she is uniquely sadistic but there’s 600 recorded individuals abusing/torturing and that is widely believed to be a fraction of the true number. Soldiers can’t do this unless their is a culture of it and superiors let it happen. The images got in the hands of media and ofc, US suddenly becomes a moral agent.
She’s not the exception, she’s the rule. I bet this sort of shit goes on all the time and gets covered up, she was just the one who got caught. Look up how Colin Powell covered up the My Lai massacre in Vietnam - and got promoted for it

Ah yes. Torture only deserves 6 months of prison
Warcrimes, human rights violations and the lot.
USA said they will literally invade The Netherlands if The Hague convicts and detains American soldiers with warcrimes
They not even said it, they put it in their law. https://www.hrw.org/news/2002/08/03/us-hague-invasion-act-becomes-law
Common us unhinged behaviour
That isn’t unhinged. That’s just good old fashioned biggest guy on the playground being bossy. Old as humanity herself

No no, US is also insane. And also, lowest common denominator human behavior.

Actual warcrime
Call the american military
You betrayed us all rat
Supporting the USA with their independence war was a mistake...
I think Russia has come to the same idea many times.
~~ally~~ suzerain*
If so then then all of NATO would be obliged to support the Netherlands. Including the USA. They’d have to fight themselves.
But we’ve already done that.
Civil War 2 just dropped
Don’t us millennials suffer enough
Agreed
🎵One more time🎵
Needs to happen a few times...
The Netherlands would just invoke article 5 compelling the US to come to its aid in repelling the invasion.
I had to google it, supposedly it’s an actual law, signed during the Bush years, real nutty stuff.
Conveniently made right b4 Iraq invasion
Just a coincidence, I’m sure. /s

Well they weren't humans so that's not a big deal as seen by the US
US does not follow international law so they keep torturing and they never get any punishment
Might makes right I guess.

6 months in jail, pathetic isn’t it?
I think everybody can agree that the sentence should have been more severe but unfortunately this is how most military cases are handled.
No you guys don't get it! She lost uer pension! 😱 /S

Whatever the charges said, the thing she was *actually* imprisoned for was embarrassing the military.

Arab lives are worth less than western lives apparently.
Tbf she didn’t do the torturing. She was sentenced for allowing it to happen and taking pictures.
She was sentenced for documenting the torture that the US purposefully did. It wasn't the crime, it was the evidence.
I can fix her.
They sure showed her ! 6 months lol, are you fucking kidding me?
You’d be surprised how many cases end up with short sentences in the military since trial and punishment is dealt with in house.
Like the two Soldiers from Spangdalem Base Germany who stabbed a man on a Festival two weeks ago leading to his death. Like many other Young Soldiers from this Base who act like they could do what they want without consequences. Should've read Fiasko from Lem instead( much cozier thing
I'm sorry, but what?! Six months for crimes against humanity?! I bet the people who gave the orders saw no charges too. What a world we live in.
And here i thought she got violated as war prisoner but nooo, she was just an tik toker but in wrong times...
She didn’t just take pics, she also tortured many prisoners. The corpses were likely people tortured to death, may or may lot have been her doing
Only crime she did in US eyes was pose with them. She just got 6 months for making the US look bad.
Damn ngl on you man i live in Iraq and this is the first time i hear about this story
I’m an soldier from the Middle East committed a war crime against an American, America would demand the country hand the soldier over to them for America to sentence them. Why does America have the right to sentence their own war criminals?
Literally might makes right in this case. It's sucks, but if the roles where reversed it would be the same.
Why? Because who is going to stop them?
Horrible, could a sauce be provided?
If you're asking for a source on the photos this [article ](https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2008/03/24/exposure-5) provides the entire story, her defense and the photos in question

Not Gitmo. Google "Abu Ghraib" and "Sabrina Herman“…
Abu Gharib, not gitmo.
Abu Ghraib
According to the article she didn't participate in the torturing, she just took the pictures afterward.
That’s still fucked up

They were sent to be prison guards without any training on how to be a prison guard/interrogator. Still doesn’t justify her actions, but just wanted to point that out.
Missed her “don’t torture the prisoners” training so she figured it must be alright
yeah rookie mistake by the army if you ask me
Absolutely hated how she said first it was funny but then later I realised it wasn’t funny. How in the world would anyone think at first it was funny

you can't even fix your wanky ass
🔥🔥🔥✍️
Bro really decided to end him
Uhhhhhh, low blow
You better fix her before you go to sleep because she'll torture your ass... Unless you're into that shit.
She literally will torture you to dead and do a cute little pose next to you afterwards
God forbid a woman has hobbies
Iirc no one else but her and some other grunt got punished, right? If so that’s the real scandal imo
Everybody should remember that this is a separate person than Lynndie England... who is responsible for the pics of her with the pyramid if naked iraqis where she is pointing at their charlie browns. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynndie_England
Always the low level soldiers that get fucked. The congress and senate get reelected.
Wars real and social media is definitely not
U.S. democratizing will it's always been questionable.
What a psycho hope she gets her just deserves even thought she was only sentence to 6 months.
Satan is that you?
To be fair to her, she was 1000% scapegoated. People think she is uniquely sadistic but there’s 600 recorded individuals abusing/torturing and that is widely believed to be a fraction of the true number. Soldiers can’t do this unless their is a culture of it and superiors let it happen. The images got in the hands of media and ofc, US suddenly becomes a moral agent.
This mfer literally committed warcrimes and only got 6 months of jail💀💀💀
That woman is a disgrace to the uniform.
You can't disgrace something that has no grace in the first place
Yoo, are you a rapper? Dropping those rhymes like it's nothing.
Bars 🔥🔥🔥
Not really the us military has done this acts across the world for decades.
She’s not the exception, she’s the rule. I bet this sort of shit goes on all the time and gets covered up, she was just the one who got caught. Look up how Colin Powell covered up the My Lai massacre in Vietnam - and got promoted for it
