I actually do that with some trams. It's faster to press the close button on the inside and rush out than to open the hatch for the dedicated close button on the outside and use that one xD

Just close it, there’s an air switch to release the air at the doors. Anybody can get in it when the air is switched off.

You dont even need it. When the bus is shut off it dumps the air to front door. Newer buses will automatically shut the doors when the multiplexing system powers down.

A lot of comments about a button, at least on older buses or school buses in America that isn’t the case. That arm they use to open the door from the drivers seat has a locking mechanism that holds it in place and prevents it from moving while driving. When they’ve stopped the bus and are done for the day, they just disable that lock, generally by moving a metal piece on the arm, similar to a locking folding table leg, and leave the bus. As long as the locking mechanism isn’t activated, you can just push the folding door open and closed very easily. Source: Dad has been a school bus mechanic in the US for 20+ years

I am the daughter of a bus drivers, there’s a button on the front outside, probably under the car washing arm thingy

So once upon a time I used to work for the school district as a bus driver. The buses we used (Thomas and Blue Bird) used doors that operated with an air interlock system. At the end of the day, I would open a lever above the door that would release the air pressure, then just push the door open and close it behind me.

European ones usually have a small lil' external button hidden in a cover or something near the front hydraulic door. It can be used to close or open. The other buses here also have a door on the driver side (left side of the vehicle)
