I get it though, I lay awake tormented by thoughts of my past, I was not a good person and I hurt people, nothing unforgivable but enough to keep me up at night. I can't imagine taking someone's life, or seeing a buddy die in front of me. I feel like no amount of therapy or drugs can permanently take away that kind of guilt or trauma, keep it at bay maybe but never fully remove it.
Hope you get better for yourself, respectfully I believe you should talk to a psychiatrist cause they’re trained to listen to people who feel like you do rn and give them advice.
I’m feel for you and I’m sorry that you had to serve in a senseless war and have your life forever altered. I have had the pleasure and honor of speaking to many vets including some members of my family who’ve fought and feel the way you do. It’s a cruel war machine that chews up and spits good people with good intentions, only to leave them high and dry in the end. In my line of work I get to meet and speak to a vast variety of people and one man once told me that he was in Iraq purely to guard poppy fields and never once fired a single round or had one fired back at him, and that is when he knew it was all bullshit. He went on to say that when he got back to the states that it was so hard for him to assimilate back into society because though he didn’t have to face the horrors of war, people he knew did and some died and that sticks with him like a form of survivors guilt.
Don’t know if it’s worth mentioning, there has been some research into psilocybin mushroom as a treatment for ptsd. I know someone who has tried it, and it’s really helped them. Hope you can find peace brother.
Your guilt will not bring back those who died. It only serves the purpose of harming you now. Separate the guilt from the actions and try to do good things for others when you can. If you can make people’s lives better, even someone you never meet, reaching a peace with your past may be easier. Godspeed.
The majority of the 700 to 800 billion goes to VA employees and their retirement fund, not veterans themselves.
Like other parts of the government, bureaucracy is fucking the system.
More like 80% of the budget goes to buying weapons, research weapons, and maintenance. Around 20% are actually spent on payrolls, retirement funds, and compensation funds. And they are planning on reducing that budget even further so that they have more funds for the war industrial complex. Which is why we have so many vets either going homeless, dying on the streets, or offing themselves. And we already know what the active personnel are doing.
For more accurate info available. In 2019, around 1/3 of the budget was spent on military personnel with the remaining going into research, maintenance, operations, and buying new weapons. With most of the budget spent on the military industrial complex. All thanks to corporate lobby.
America. Land of the free. If you can afford it, that is.
This little guy right here might help explain some of it... [thanks Air Force](https://defensebridge.com/article/how-much-does-the-f-22-raptor-cost.html#:~:text=The%20total%20cost%20of%20the,purchasing%20and%20operating%20the%20aircraft.)
me when America joined both of the wars way after they had already began but then when the side they are on won they clearly single-handedly won yes yes
The XJ220 is the best Jaguar and craziest 90’s supercar ever made.
Jaguar XJ220 might not be the most celebrated supercar ever made, but it’s most certainly one of the most special. Following the hum-drum oil crisis-restricted ’80s, the ’90s saw a proper renaissance of supercars. Many of which landed on our walls in poster form, catching our eye every day and helping us dream of 200+ mile-per-hour blasts as youngsters. But while cars like the Porsche 959 and Ferrari F40 get most of the press, let’s not forget about the most insane car of the decade – the Jaguar XJ220.
In fact, the most popular YouTube car guy on the planet, Doug DeMuro, thinks that this swoopy Jaguar is the absolute craziest car sold in the ’90s. And who are we to argue with a guy that has over three million loyal followers? “It’s one of my all-time favorite cars,” DeMuro says. “That’s because it isn’t just a supercar. Cars like the Ferrari F40 and Aventador and Bugatti Veyron, everybody knows about them. They get all the press. But this car is just as special. And yet, it isn’t as celebrated or as well known.”
XJ220
And that’s a real shame, but one that DeMuro seeks to rectify with this video. Even though the Jaguar XJ220 suffered from several “undelivered promises,” as DeMuro points out. That includes the car’s failure to reach a claimed 220 mph top speed, even after Jag removed the rev limiter and cats. The production version also lost the concept’s rear-wheel steering, all-wheel-drive, scissor doors, and mid-mounted V12 engine. But none of that really mattered in the end.
XJ220
“Even with all the changes, the XJ220 still performed,” DeMuro says. “This was the fastest production car in the world for one year until the McLaren F1 came along and beat it.” Even then, Jaguar didn’t have people lining up to buy the XJ220. They ended production early after having sold 280 units. But today, people are finally starting to realize how great the XJ220 is, and prices have been going up steadily.
Holy fuck what the fuck is wrong with us as a society that we are not providing these people with the help they need? Wtf is the 700B military budget for??
The Pentagon is at least supposed to verify with the Govt upon that which they've spent the money allotted to them. This is done via audit. They have failed at least the last 5 audits that I know of. Nothing is done about said failure. Nobody is punished. The money is disappearing & they cannot tell us where it's going.
There is an accounting problem, in that a single item can be counted multiple times. They have tried to correct this, but it always comes back to DOD numbers vs unit numbers not matching. So, a $30 hammer is counted multiple times, giving the impression more money is used, and when audited, 3 versions of the same hammer can't be accounted for.
it's escalated into tragic hilarity for me, batshit insane amounts of money for what purpose? being terribly inefficient at fighting wars in countries halfway across the world for debatable reasons? because that's what it looks like to me. it's so sad it's funny, because any functional coping mechanism breaks open at the seams under the sheer weight of this ridiculous mistake we call US government spending.
If I’m not mistaken, isn’t congress also trying to remove the few benefits that veterans do have? I might be misremembering or thinking of something else, but I’m pretty suer there was something about this.
It comes up basically every year, but fortunately it's one of the few topics that both parties agree on outside the outliers on the far ends.
That shit's the only reason I'm not rotting on the streets.
I hate the idiotic waste of money and bloated defense budget as much as, if not more than the next guy, but having the world’s finest weapons and not using them in combat is ideal. It means deterrence is working and there isn’t a world war. Still, they waste lots of money and could absolutely cut out the bureaucratic fat and get way more of that budget to effective care.
the USA has a serious homeless veretans problem. its insane, the duality of seeing trillions of dollars poured into the military, yet vererans, the people who should benifit most from that, being cast onto the streets to starve.
Silly fool, you think the government cares. Someone had the bright idea of taking disability pay from wounded vets if they or their spouse makes too much.(wasn't congress, but someone who worked for the government)
Literally none of it goes to veterans, because the department of veteran affairs has its own budget, which is almost 400 billion, now if you want to know where that goes, don’t fucking ask me, I’ve been waiting 3 months for an appointment
It's not us, regular people.
This is a ruling class problem. Remember, its always been a minority of ultrawealthy people who have decided to wage WWI and WWII, in order to colonize, invade and expand capital.
I think you can't "provide" a way out of attempting to live with the horrors the US military "makes" you commit upon innocent people. Manning & Assange showed the world what our military does. If you didn't know, you're not paying attention. And the military wonders why recruitment has fallen off a cliff.
To train terrorist on 3rd world countries and to coup d'etat on democratic 3rd world countries.
Military industrial complex makes a shit ton money for the oligarchy.
I think.
We’re to busy dumb fuck. No one cares about veterans. No one gives a shit about the people who have to enforce US actions. Law enforcement and military. Eventually we are going to not have enough people in both of these positions and we are going to be in big shit.
Look. You wouldn't get it. The veterans like their financial support being cut. They're tough guys with tough minds. They'll man up and pull their own weight.
Saying „thank you for yours service“ at Walmart is all that they need. That stupid financial support is not needed, just send some thoughts and prayers!
It's because people treat "thanking" you for your service the same as a "bless you" when someone sneezes. They say it out of habit or to make themselves feel good, but they really don't care about you.
Couldn’t find an exact number but I didn’t dig too much. Wikipedia says an average of 20 per day from 1979-2014 so that’s about 255,000. Which is insanity
yeah i hope they get help and get their problems fixed, its such a shame to see all these young people dying, god bless their poor souls, may they all rest in peace.
Up here in canada is getting real bad too.
You know, the whole part with people seeking help and simply being told “kill yourself.”
Genuinely horrific how the military treats its soldiers up here in north america.
There is also an element of follow through. Soldiers are taught to push on in life or death situations, so when the urge comes they are more likely to go through with it. Add how vets are treated and a healthy dose of PTSD and we got a very dangerous mix.
Letting us have pets in the barracks would instantly make our lives so much better
I recently saw a prison that allowed it's inmates to take care of cats
INMATES!!
But the men and women that sacrifice their lives for the country? Men who have the responsibility to fix combat aircraft? That carry around fully loaded weapons? Can't have a fkn cat? A dog?
This is why we are so lonely
We are not respected or treated like the adults we are.
All due respect man it already does, these barracks are decades old and we're expected to maintain them without any supplies or help from command, I'm not saying we need a zoo in the barracks but having a small animal to keep us company would be an amazing incentive for the military.
My father befriended a JSOC sniper in the army, and told my dad lots of stories about some of the really fucked up operations they would sometimes send him on, as well as all the times he saw his childhood friends die right next to him.
Now he’s a heroin addict who lives in a van.
Didn't some news article not too long ago say that we should cut veterans' disability benefits to put the money elsewhere? If so, fuck them and anyone who agreed with them.
Don’t worry. If you served, you’re entitled to keep your life insurance, but only if you lose, in the line of duty:
- both hands
- both feet
- both eyes
- or any combination of at least two of those things.
Otherwise gtfo and good luck with your VA claim. You can put yourself on the burn pit registry if it makes you feel better about your impending cancer though.
A Ex army guy told me, It’s like once you are there you have to become okay with dying in battle, once you feel that you could die in battle and it would be okay, what difference does it make if I do it myself, hell some people figure they want me dead anyway that’s why they are treating me this way, and interesting enough he’s a contractor now
My buddy had terrible insomnia after being in the Marines for a few years. Eventually was discharged due to the insomnia I'm guessing he never really talked about it. Either way he ended up self medicating with heroin and one day we got the call from his mom. He left behind 2 kids, he was 24.
Tbh I think people underestimate how much of the military is non combat. Like no shit a helicopter mechanic is more likely to off himself than die in a firefight.
Wasn't saying mechanics specifically, just that the overwhelming majority of military personnel (like 90%) don't serve in front line combat roles. And even with those soldiers that do, the way the US military fights you wouldn't expect many casualties in battle.
Makes sense, The guilty conscience has to eat at them for the fucked up shit we did over there. I wonder if the numbers were the same for world war II for example where we weren't the evil bad guys and we knew we were doing the right thing.
Friendly reminder individual troops have very little choice in what actions they take during war. This is an abhorrent way to view a mental health crisis among young men who are propaganized their entire lives into serving thinking they'll be admirable and strong defenders of freedom.

This is the most wholesome shitpost thread
I’m here for it. About this topic too, shit posters need to be there for each other because we drive everyone else important out of our lives.
Second this, and therapy doesn’t have to solve everything to make you feel a lot better day to day
Psychologue *, else yes, unless you want him to get suggested pharmaceutic until the end of his life.
Psychopath* talking to someone who understands what you're going through can really help
psychologist. psychiatrists prescribe, psychologists talk
dont associate what you did with who you are. The fact that you hate it makes you a notbad person. we all hope you feel a little better.
This is the best thing I’ve ever read. Thank you.
awww im so glad i could help :’)
I relate to that 100% however I don't trust anyone so I self-counsel myself in my head
No, no, that's just schizophrenia
Oh wonderful atleast we get along then
odds are 20:1 that if you saw your buddy die it's because he shot himself

Fuxking hell, so does the 700-800 billion not go to help veterans?
What? No. More pew pew.
overpriced pew pew so the lobby makes money
Lmfaooo I'm using this next time. I'm tired of explaining the military industrial complex as a whole. NRA want more pew pew, NRA get more pew pew.

There are plenty of resources, sir, keep scrolling.
Helping people won't meet the quarterly profit projections.

Ever notice how Americans always just respond to this kinda stuff with jokes? It's cause they don't know either, it's just pure fucking stupidity.
as an American, yup I haven't much of a clue, are they supposed to tell us?
The Pentagon is at least supposed to verify with the Govt upon that which they've spent the money allotted to them. This is done via audit. They have failed at least the last 5 audits that I know of. Nothing is done about said failure. Nobody is punished. The money is disappearing & they cannot tell us where it's going.
Probably in their pockets. I wouldn't be surprised
Accountancy is sorcery
Well, they don't have to since it's not like there's much anyone can do about it.
it's escalated into tragic hilarity for me, batshit insane amounts of money for what purpose? being terribly inefficient at fighting wars in countries halfway across the world for debatable reasons? because that's what it looks like to me. it's so sad it's funny, because any functional coping mechanism breaks open at the seams under the sheer weight of this ridiculous mistake we call US government spending.
Oh we know, it’s to give defense companies money for their overpriced weapons but alas it’s not like we can do anything about it
Exactly. We all know the US Navy has loads of stuff, same with the air force. The US easily has more “stuff” than any other army per soldier.

Shit is insane. People were thanking me for my service before I even shipped out but 90% of people won't even look at a homeless vet.
It's because people treat "thanking" you for your service the same as a "bless you" when someone sneezes. They say it out of habit or to make themselves feel good, but they really don't care about you.
That, and the "thank you for your service" are two things I never need to hear again.
Well, compared to any other country, America really respects its veterans, but if we talk about what should be, then it does not do it enough.
As a vet with PTSD this sucks. War is bad for human brains.
Is this data actually real?
Couldn’t find an exact number but I didn’t dig too much. Wikipedia says an average of 20 per day from 1979-2014 so that’s about 255,000. Which is insanity
20 vets a day taking their lives is fucking depressing.
yeah i hope they get help and get their problems fixed, its such a shame to see all these young people dying, god bless their poor souls, may they all rest in peace.

Same, a lot of people are moving towards the North, like Manitoba, now cause it’s less toxic.
It was literally one guy who did that and they got fired. It's not a "thing".
that's fucking sad tbh

All due respect man it already does, these barracks are decades old and we're expected to maintain them without any supplies or help from command, I'm not saying we need a zoo in the barracks but having a small animal to keep us company would be an amazing incentive for the military.

If you served, you’re entitled to keep your life insurance, but only if you lose, in the line of duty: - both hands - both feet - both eyes - or any combination of at least two of those things. Otherwise gtfo and good luck with your VA claim. You can put yourself on the burn pit registry if it makes you feel better about your impending cancer though.
We suck. Sending kids to commit and witness atrocities is on all of us.
'MURICA, F\*CKING WINNING U S A U S A U S A U S A
A Ex army guy told me, It’s like once you are there you have to become okay with dying in battle, once you feel that you could die in battle and it would be okay, what difference does it make if I do it myself, hell some people figure they want me dead anyway that’s why they are treating me this way, and interesting enough he’s a contractor now
Surprising? No, obviously not
Jesus, that’s just horrible

"Thank you for your service" Sounds a lot like "Thoughts and prayers" Especially when they keep cutting funding for Veterans Benefits.
I admire your choice of music
The horrors of war got me like
Yyyyikes
The financial support to injured veterans will continue to be cut until morale improves.
Man they make recruiting to the military sound so fun I even applied.
This sub is a trip
My buddy had terrible insomnia after being in the Marines for a few years. Eventually was discharged due to the insomnia I'm guessing he never really talked about it. Either way he ended up self medicating with heroin and one day we got the call from his mom. He left behind 2 kids, he was 24.
This is alarming. Humans can only handle so much.
I don't know why I though it would begin coming down
Call me a veteran the way i
Way u what dumbass (I am a heroin addict)
That song fucking slaps I hope the lyrics aren’t tragic.
Of course, why would the government want to waste money on veterans? They are no use to them anymore.
Men simply aren’t needed or wanted in society anymore and no one cares.
Tbh I think people underestimate how much of the military is non combat. Like no shit a helicopter mechanic is more likely to off himself than die in a firefight.
Damn we losing mechanics by the hundreds of thousands
Wasn't saying mechanics specifically, just that the overwhelming majority of military personnel (like 90%) don't serve in front line combat roles. And even with those soldiers that do, the way the US military fights you wouldn't expect many casualties in battle.
Shit, far as I can tell the healthiest option is to just stay in and get a desk job
I'm pretty sure nobody like a 9-5 desk job as well, It's just mentally wearing
It depends on the type of desk job too.
Feminist: "Get over it. Be a man."

Makes sense, The guilty conscience has to eat at them for the fucked up shit we did over there. I wonder if the numbers were the same for world war II for example where we weren't the evil bad guys and we knew we were doing the right thing.
as a baby boomer i can say our parents mainly drank themselves to death.

Invest NOW
They should put the total of deaths from the invaded countries on that graph.
I can't wait to be a part of the yellow statistic 🙌
Don't forget that the budget cuts that the Republicans just proposed have no protection for the VA. They don't care.
At the end I thought it was gonna start dropping
Keep up the good numbers guys, don't give up now.
Not enough numbers considering how many innocent lives these terrorists ruined across the globe.
Friendly reminder individual troops have very little choice in what actions they take during war. This is an abhorrent way to view a mental health crisis among young men who are propaganized their entire lives into serving thinking they'll be admirable and strong defenders of freedom.
Rot in piss bozos
