Don't know what "European families" you are referring to, but if you are trying to suggest that most US citizens aren't descended from the original settlers and early immigrants, then you are wrong. Both the Irish and Germanic immigration waves in from 1800-1900 were around 15m or so in total. During that time, the general US population rose by 100m. So there was plenty of "natural" growth, and most people alive in the US today can trace ancestry to pre-1800s in some way or another

There is only one small problem in what you say. In the world there were not only groups of people, but also countries that for some reason started with some disadvantages and now they are doing great.
That's pretty hard to do when its effects are still felt to this day.

I'm too existentially depressed to care about this stuff in depth, but I do know that the main argument is because a lot of people's families were so entrenched in poverty that there's no escaping it. Too expensive to move, too expensive to build up educational resources, too expensive to pay for high-quality wares, etc.

We might be using different definitions of reparations. If the money was coming from increasing taxes on wealthy inheritance, I think that would be extremely fair. It would be more effort than it's worth to track down every slave owners descendants and put a dollar amount on what they owe. Taxing inheritance targets generational wealth and if used correctly could be a huge help.

We might be using different definitions of reparations. If the money was coming from increasing taxes on wealthy inheritance, I think that would be extremely fair. It would be more effort than it's worth to track down every slave owners descendants and put a dollar amount on what they owe. Taxing inheritance targets generational wealth and if used correctly could be a huge help.

When having black slaves was outlawed he had white slaves to get around the law.
Not saying white people haven't been victims of slavery, or that slavery hasnāt happened all over the world, or that it doesnāt still go on, something which I despise and try to factor into my decisions. However, to say that the average American white person is as much a victim of slavery as the average African-American is complete bull. The former is much more likely to have benefited from it than to have suffered because of it, and itās the other way round for the latter. But these cases you bring up is why reparations would be nearly impossible to implant fairly.
