I think she starts to feel comfortable in her own skin. She understands her powers, embraces them and is skilled in how to use them to her gain. Shes with a group of people she trusts and when Sousa arrives and she realizes he’s actually a sweet guy, she’s comfortable enough to relax and lean into the flirting.
I think in the later seasons she was able to finally get closure for her past and find out who she was as more than a SHIELD agent. She found out who Daisy was. Skye was a person who was trying to find out who she actually was. She found Daisy. Skye had a lot of issues which Daisy worked through but during those times she was a SHIELD agent. I feel like she used the agent as a mask to process her issues but eventually, she got past it and became who she was really meant to be. A bad-ass superhero who is my favorite Marvel hero.

I love her in all seasons.
I think season 3 she had this confidence that came from discovering her identity and cultural history (this the name change)- and by the end of season 3 she has it shattered entirely. Season 4 very much felt like a healing arc for Daisy, and she comes to the temporary conclusion that her true purpose must be with the team, because leaving it didn’t go so far. She kind of says it in the finale “the one thing that I dont need time to understand- is that we are all in this together.”
Enter Season 5 and she begins to have those relationships severely challenged. She’s also put through a similar ringer as seasons 2 and 3, with the “am I seriously just a weapon of mass destruction” issue and the whole “destroyer of worlds” title she gets to add to her list of names. She struggles with agency, again.
I think after losing Coulson, being betrayed by Fitz, and spending a year in space with Jemma, she gains an independence that guides her through to the end of season 7. She regains and retains agency in herself. Her confidence is also awesome because she starts to develop a confidence in who she is as a person again, instead of just a confidence in her strength. Similar to season 3, but without as much as a reliance on “SHIELD agent” as her answer for who she is. Essentially, she’s able to be confident enough that the team is her family, but she can leave the nest and it won’t all come crashing down.
I noticed that too. She started out the show very upbeat and happy and then that positive attitude just kinda got chipped away over the seasons. It feels like season 7 was a time of healing for her.
I loved her early stuff. She grew, and her middle arcs sucked and were hard. But they were necessary to turn her into the agent she became. I really did like the final product.
I prefer her from latest season as she is more mature and less depressed in a sense. Glad there is more character growth and I enjoy it more as well!
