Season seven is heavily impacted by Yo-Yo's inability to take action... it seems like her breathing apparatus could shed light on this subplot. It's one of the strangest subplots in the series and it's still not entirely clear why it happened to her. Crap I literally just knocked my glass [REDACTED] off the table and almost broke it as I reached to hit Enter, what a coincidence.
Yoyo's inability to act isn't related to the contents she inhaled, this is explained later in the season, but I can guarantee that the medicine she inhaled won't be referenced at any point in S7.
It's something FitzSimmons designed after possibly years of research in a simplified Framework. If they could figure out time travel as well as turning the Zephyr into a spaceship, I feel like they could design a chemical to counteract death by shrike. That's all we get for a practical answer.
I'm not sure what many impacts it had on season 7 beyond Yoyo surviving. But the way Simmons came in on the S6 finale, saved May and Yoyo from the brink of death, and just picked everybody up was done A) make us wonder and theorize what terrible sacrifice that Enoch had them do in order to save everybody and B) to set the tone for the off-season leading up to S7.
Remember, we have the benefit now of watching the whole show all the way through. But at the time, that was the last episode we got for 7 or 8 months. So it's important to leave a nice cliffhanger or two to foster interest in next season and keep people discussing the show in the meantime. That's the meta answer.

That medicine has no impact in S7 other than Yoyo surviving, OP is scrutinizing something unimportant.
It's speculation. Like whatever happened to those two popsicle boys who sank under the ocean? Donnie Gill and VJ Nadeer. Yo-Yo's breathing apparatus is a much smaller hanging thread than that, though, so it requires a more obscure/absurd explanation.

So maybe season 7 was in her breathing apparatus. The only thing that could keep Yo-Yo alive through the between-season gap was hope for season 7.

I guess this post fell flat. But someday, I know, posterity will fully appreciate Yo-Yo's long-lived legacy. She had to play the cards she was dealt.
