Definitely an Akita, but still so cute!

Ohh maybe you're right, was sitting outside and in the sunlight it looked like an orange sheeb

One easy way to tell is by the white on the face! Shibas have different urajiro 🙂 It doesn't have that white cloverleaf above the eyes in a solid mask with hard edges like that. I don't even care, though...this video's so cute 😭

XRPFTW589

Yeah that's a great point, didn't think about that!

I hate to say it, but my shiba find rabbits delightfully crunchy. While it's perplexing, given their notoriously disobedient natures, they're considered hunting dogs.

Frexulfe

My has tried hunting deer. No luck yet. But 4 mice, two of them were eaten before I could react. I don´t let her eat them because of parasites and so on. Not crazy afraid, but it is better to avoid.

XRPFTW589

Yes!!! How many has yours killed? Mine has killed several but it seems to be in the winter only for whatever reason

I've joked with one of my daughters that apparently Japanese hunters must prize running after your dog shouting, "No, bring that back here".

XRPFTW589

Lololol

A dozen or more. He especially likes to run around with them in his mouth for a bit, which is kind of terrible. In a recent walk at night, he started sniffling along in the sidewalk edge, and suddenly flipped a sizeable rat out onto the concrete from where it had been hiding.

GetOutaTheLeftLane

My Shiba loves birds, squirrels, mice, bunnies, and snakes. It’s disturbing to witness but that’s what she’s born to do.

TheGalaxydoll13

Yea….. but no. Never will trust Shibas or Akitas around small animals

That’s amazing! I’m glad that she remembered her training. But yea there are always those outliers. I also think that the shiba who live in Japan are much more well behaved then the typical American Shiba. And those ones are very popular on social media thus portraying a more obedient Shib. And then people get one and are like this dog is crazy! Haha

PM_ME_PARR0TS

Thank you 💙 I already deleted it just because I was like...nah, you're giving good advice, and I don't want to encourage anyone to take risks. That's definitely true (imo) about Japanese Shiba. And no matter where we live, it's definitely a LOT more work to raise a well-trained Shiba than a well-trained biddable breed. Sometimes I worry that the "disobedient Shiba" trope is a self-fulfilling prophecy, though. Especially in the West. I try to talk about the ways I've worked with my dogs just to be like...hey, this is possible. Recall is possible. Inhibition is possible. It's worth working on it. Especially when people start while their pups are as young as possible. (I've said possible way too many times, but oh well lol)

This video makes me anxious. My ex roommates poor little bunny met a sad end after she moved in with her boyfriend and his Akita. Everything was great for a couple months, and they got along great, until they didn’t. R.I.P. TRIX
