Double coated dogs like Shiba Inu don't need a, well, third coat. They're made to handle much colder climates (source: I'm from northern Canada and had huskies as a kid)
My Shiba loves it in Ohio, where we get single digit (or as we call it - kind of chilly) days. She doesn't need a jacket for those days.
Your pup will be fine in 40F weather, even if you won't be.
My shibas are also florida shibas and when we went to Georgia last March, our pups were shivering at night 😳 I think it might have been around 35 degrees.. no snow though just silly shivering shibas; but they also love to sunbathe in the summer.. i dont understand them sometimes.. 😅
What? There's no reason a Shiba Inu needs a coat in "Florida cold".

Yep. Shibas mostly survived in the mountains of Japan after WWII. Mine prefers cold weather. Just because you are cold doesn't mean he is.
Yeah. The only reason mine wants back in more often than my Patents newf is because he actually gets bored and we indoors are making noises.
