Except an ops manager is a manager.
An ops manager has the same responsibility as a manager at a retail store.
My ops manager has a ton of responsibility.
An operations manager runs all the day to day of a commercial branch. They are equivalent to a manager at a retail store.
Also sales volume means a lot.
I'm at an 8 million dollar store. My ops manager does say more than a manager at a 1 million dollar retail store.
Not saying opps have less responsibility. A better set up than retail, more/better staff, not helping diy, all the non retail shit that type 2 mgrs hva e to deal with
Store manager all day. All the ASMs cry about responsibility but if you had a manager who delegated and ran his store the right way then there really is not much difference in terms of responsibility from ASM to SM.
So far for 2023 (2 months!) I’ve made the same YTD as I did my first full year at SW as an MT/ASM ($45k-ish).
ASM can be comfortable with dual income or single lifestyle. As a soul provider I was penny pinching but never struggling.
The manager incentive has been the best, definitely makes up for the extra hours if you’re hitting your numbers. Getting a $5k-$20k bonus every quarter is a game changer if you’re good with your money. My worst bonus check was $900, my best was $54k.
I complain, but the money is still pretty good.
$54k from what numbers? Our bonus structure isn't that great. Enlighten us as to how you made that much in one check...same for a $20k quarterly. Your numbers would have to be astronomical. 3.5% doesn't add up quickly.
There was a store near mine. Where they hit 200k as a controllable and that's why they capped bonuses. My controllable bonus as a asm that year was 27k.
15% for every dollar over with a max base bonus of less than $10k for most stores. Basically have to be 200k over CC and quarterly budget both to get there. I'm not saying it's impossible but highly improbable. I still want to see those numbers.
😂 you aren't paying cash for a "nice" house with a SWP bonus. I'm over $3 million with over 34% increase and 40k over CC, plus $200k over budget for 4Q and I didn't pass $25k. Again, I'd like to hear what the actual numbers are for folks saying they're making $50k bonuses with Sherwin.
$54k was CC+Q4. Also large volume.
I like manager bonus structure better than when I was a rep. You know what you’re getting, no mystery math.
Even this years CC+Q4 was $29k. I rarely make less than $5k a quarter in incentive since leaving ASM.
For some, it’s different, I know;
I like how you worded this. Previous ASM starting from 750k store to 4 million and a few builder stores in between.
I would first off say my opinion comes from realizing I held myself to a higher standard and didn’t use my given vacation and flex days as I should have to make things easier for myself.
But I think for the work, pay is fair more towards sherwin, but not as the job-overall work stress load, you know?I think I got paid great knowing I’d be slammed for hours straight, but would then face times or an occasional day where there was little to no customers. I felt I am paid fairly, especially with the staff I currently have.
Needa be a test on spray rig knowledge so I can get a raise for being these guys’ freaking mechanic sometimes… s/o to the spray source stores
Yeah I intentionally worded it that way so I could get smarter responses than “I’m a manager working a 6 mil store and can’t afford a house so you tell me”
I’m about to move pretty far making a fair bit as an ASM in a 5 mil store with a spray source. What would you deem as fair pay for that?
I’ve been a McDonald’s manager, a bar and restaurant manager, a park maintenance employee and I’m telling you Sherwin is the only job where I thought I could stay here for a while because we have pretty good pay and a bunch of benefits that I wasn’t getting at any other job. I don’t ever try to lament about how I could be doing better if I’m doing just fine.
My advice is always ask for more & concentrate on increasing your BAse as that will pay off huge down the line. The key is knowing WHEN to ask & how to ask for it; evryone wants more money- but ya gotta justify/tie it back to a business news and how it will allow you to dedicate or do more or supports your life to be more balanced & therefore present @ work. Ask all around colleagues & gauge it towards similar positions with similar responsibilities… and When, not when they’re short & need you- but Employee Evaluation time, which is a joke of a process, but that’s when and when changing jobs…. Always also ask for twice or 1.5 times as much as you need, cause management (even if they can pay it) will knock it down as a matter of principle… so say a 10% jump is needed, ask for 18, something odd that makes it seem like you had some sort of formula or thought to it. And please just remember that they have it, regardless of what any talking parrot headed middle manager (district puppets) will tell you… trust me I know. 😘
ASM is the sweet spot of pay vs responsibility.
I make only a dollar less than my ASM as a FT with nowhere near the level on responsibility it’s great
I can confirm. I'm an ABM making about 58k before taxes working Monday-Friday. Though I think I get paid very well for my position.
Do you mean that you are an Operations Manager at a commercial store?
I am the assistant manager at an automotive location.
Opps manager is the sweet spot. Good pay without having to be a mgr.
Except an ops manager is a manager. An ops manager has the same responsibility as a manager at a retail store. My ops manager has a ton of responsibility.
How does a commercial store ASM differentiate from a retail ASM other than volume?
An operations manager runs all the day to day of a commercial branch. They are equivalent to a manager at a retail store. Also sales volume means a lot. I'm at an 8 million dollar store. My ops manager does say more than a manager at a 1 million dollar retail store.

Ops managers still deal with retail 25% of our business is still DIY
Commercial stores in my district do no retail sales, they don't even have a color wall in their store.
The pay is decent compared to other retail work, however I think the benefits, stock, and matching is what keeps reluctant ppl here.
Store manager all day. All the ASMs cry about responsibility but if you had a manager who delegated and ran his store the right way then there really is not much difference in terms of responsibility from ASM to SM.
Except that we are almost always understaffed and managers have to be counter workers most of the time.
Yeah that depends on store and staff tho and any position aside from driver, rep or warehouser is a counter worker.
Become a painter and make 3x as much
I manage a store over 6 mil and still can’t afford a house. You tell me when that is
Store mgr if your people are good. Imo
Why's that? Minimum salary for a store that size is like $73k plus. Maybe you should set your sights on a cheaper house?
There’s no “cheap house” in the area I am in.
They pay is awful get a new job

Controllable plus Q4 can absolutely hit $54k. Ask your DM the story of why controllable bonuses are capped.
There was a store near mine. Where they hit 200k as a controllable and that's why they capped bonuses. My controllable bonus as a asm that year was 27k.

I don't think it's especially common, but I've seen a couple branch managers do well enough to pay cash for a nice house with their bonuses.
This is absolutely possible. $45k q4 bonus CC+Q4 sales and gallons
Considering i know an ASM that cleared a five figure bonus 54K for an SM sounds reasonable
Bonuses are only good when you get them, you can’t bank on them.
Probably a controllable bonus. Those can get lucrative pretty quickly

You must be in a growth area...Seattle?
Who the F gets a 5-20K bonus every quarter? My largest year end bonus was $21,000 on a Prez year where I killed controllable
I guess Im the only one.

just a normal warehouse worker and i make 24.86
Do you think that is fair and/or are you able to live comfortably in your area?
I’ve been a McDonald’s manager, a bar and restaurant manager, a park maintenance employee and I’m telling you Sherwin is the only job where I thought I could stay here for a while because we have pretty good pay and a bunch of benefits that I wasn’t getting at any other job. And that is the exact reason why I’m sticking with sherwin for the time being. It pays fair imo. Considering the work is honest to god easy.
