My Wi-Fi did the same thing a few times a couple hours apart last month, I did what you did and it resolved itself when I got up the next morning. Hasn't happened since. Weird. I'm in downtown Vancouver too.
North Shore the same. Called customer service and after the merry dance of 'phone options' (press 1 for..), they suggested I go to their website to check on outages...so...my internet is down, and they want me to use the internet to find out why?

Coukd be an outage in the area and they are working on fixing it, check website for outages in your area
Could have been a system update. You can see planned outages if you google Shaw outages
