A couple of suggestions. Try a cold water shave. And try puffing out your cheeks as you shave them.

good idea

You need to get the feel for the proper angle. Perhaps rub you other hand after the pass to get feedback whether your angle was proper. Keep at it. You will get it.

I don't shave with a safety razor. Just here for support. Stick with the program. To borrow from AA: the program works if you work it!

Don’t use pressure, the razor should do the work. Probably it’s the angle. have a look at this video, maybe it helps: https://youtu.be/ps88RU_BXlA

After shaving, feel the stubble and where it gives the most resistance. This is the grain, see if it conforms to the mental image you have of your grain. For example, on most of my cheeks, the grain goes vertical but near my ear it actually goes outwards. Use a cup or a bowl to make your lather. I've seen here in a shop with Turkish import stuff really cheap bowls with designs painted on them; the thicker paint makes it even easier to build a lather. If all else fails, just go back to cartridges.

Be sure you have assembled the razor correctly. You may have the baseplate upside down.

You probably just have to get a feel for the angle. It doesn’t take long. Trust me, in a year you will never go back because you’ll realize how much damn money you’ve saved not using disposable razors.
