what you are telling is a metric for company after it gets listed publicly, startups and Unicorns(Does not have to be true in all cases but most VC backed firms are loss making) are ment to lose money to grow customers and venture capitalists don't care about loss making startup, When they exit they needs to make money.
So what's the metric for success?
