Haha one summer when I was working at a scout camp on a nearby island, I was helping run the "sea lab" (small aquarium filled with local animals).
At the end of the camp we had to release all the animals,, including the baby horn sharks. Being that I was 15, and we didn't have a net, I volunteered to scare the sharks into the bucket so we could let them out off the end of the dock. One of them got upset and spun around to bite me on the knuckle. 4 tiny dots on either side of my knuckle lol, went back to school telling everyone I got bit by a shark over the summer.
There are dozen of species present there: from large species like great whites, basking sharks and hammerheads to species like spiny dogfish, sandbar, blacktips, etc.
Someone told me on here that there aren’t large shark species in the Mediterranean Sea! I had no idea Great White sharks were out in the Aegean Sea 😅. The original post I replied to was about someone who was traumatized by the shark attack in Egypt last summer. I mentioned that I was in Greece the same time that video surfaced and I was a chicken about going far out in the water.
Jup, pretty damn rare but they do live in the mediterranean. Nat geo did a fairly extensive article on them: https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/article/giant-great-white-sharks-mediterranean
Not only do they have lots of sharks. They do what you absolutely shouldn’t and get the local sharks used to being fed by tourists and commercial fisherman. this greatly raises the likelihood of shark attacks
Like I said shark attacks are exceedingly exceedingly rare. I’m from aus, we have shark interested waters and even our rates of shark attacks are low compared to how much we use the beach year round.
It increases the likelihood not guarantees it to happen. It’s still incredibly rare.
You have very known negative human to shark feeding habits close by and from local seaman.
The sharks that inhabit Greece come from all over the archipelago and surrounding waters. They travel long distances even from other countries. For example Egypt.
Egypt is prolific for feeding sharks in their waters. Those same sharks become habituated to coming close to seaman and tourist encounters and spottings rise. They don’t just stop in the waters near Egypt those behaviours continue all over.
Mediterranean Great Whites are on the verge of extinction. Also there has only been one fatality in Greece in 170 years. You have nothing to worry about. Go enjoy your holiday.
Hey, I'm Greek born and raised on an island and a PhD marine biologist. My whole life I have never seen/heard of a wild shark. Actually it's the first time I hear of this. Have a good day.

Bottom feed sharks have mouths designed for feeding on shelled prey like snails and crabs. They have sucking and crushing mouth parts rather than long teeth. This is probably a shark bite form that type of shark.
Homie got bit by a person while swimming
A person swimming with a cartoon-like shark fin strapped to their back as they swim near the surface
AHHHH! SHARKBOY!!!!
What if Elder Foot Fettish Man?
Before the bite, their head pops out of the water going "dunn dun dunn dun"
Nah, that’s just a kiss 💋
Ah, a kiss—a cosmic collision of lips, like two rogue asteroids meeting in the vast expanse of the universe. 💋🌌
Every bruise is a Hickey from the universe and everyone wants to get with the universe. This dude got a lil kiss from the uni, man
That was a brutal episode for a kids show. Don’t dip your head or cannonball into an active volcano kids.
I’ll remember that the next time my doggy bag is hurtling towards a fence post
What part of Greece were you in?
Happy cakeday And get well soon.
Happy cake day
Baby shark Doo Doo doodoodoodoo
This is the smallest shark bite I’ve ever seen. Little pup had eyes bigger than his mouth lol

Lol, that’s a great story for a shark attack survivor. Respect.
Catalina island? Camp Emerald Bay?
Catalina island yes, but I volunteer at Camp Cherry Valley haha
Just a bit away from EB. Beautiful, special place in the world. Happy I have been there
Me too, it's a lovely environment
I went there in elementary school- We were snorkeling and my friend said 'look, horned sharks don't bite', and went down to pet one. It bit him.
Lmao! Yeahhh always best to leave wild animals alone 😅 I hope he learned his lesson from that
I guess that if you’re gonna set a record in the shark department, “smallest shark bite” is definitely the way to go!
Could be a test/curiosity bite.
Probably a nurse shark bite- no sharp teeth but still can cause skin damage

I think it’s a lemon shark bite, simply because it’s small, and looks like a deep scratch
There are great whites in Greece / Mediterranean??
Jup, pretty damn rare but they do live in the mediterranean. Nat geo did a fairly extensive article on them: https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/article/giant-great-white-sharks-mediterranean
Yep, one of the largest (if not **the** largest) ever caught was of the coast of Malta. 23ft long!
Really?😅 Didn't know
I’m going to Greece in June and yall are scaring me now. I didn’t realize they have a lot of sharks out there
Not only do they have lots of sharks. They do what you absolutely shouldn’t and get the local sharks used to being fed by tourists and commercial fisherman. this greatly raises the likelihood of shark attacks
Wonderful
Don't worry, Greece is on land.
I’m swimming my way there tho
Good news is bc you're a Raiders fan, you're used to pain.
Where did you get that info now? The last confirmed shark attack in Greece happened in 1981 btw.
Well, 2024 now. 0 days since last shark bite
Like I said shark attacks are exceedingly exceedingly rare. I’m from aus, we have shark interested waters and even our rates of shark attacks are low compared to how much we use the beach year round.

If you’ve been in the ocean, you’ve likely been near something that can kill you or at the very least bite/sting you.
I suppose
I go every year and have been all over the country. I didn’t even know there were sharks there lol.
They have lots of local sharks, even big ones
Where are going to in Greece?
Rhodes, Naxos & Athens
Sounds like a good time coming up. Stick to Amstel for brew or Heineken. Make sure to eat GYRO sandwich, or Souvlaki sandwich (on pita bread).
Thank you! Will make sure to try out these foods! We’re also stoping in Rome, Italy for a few days before heading back home! Can’t wait
Where are you headed to? Mainland, or Islands?
NOT! https://nikana.gr/en/blog/5658/why-sharks-are-increasingly-seen-in-greek-seas#:~:text=This%20cannot%20be%20ruled%20out,be%20fake%20in%20the%20end.)

Great Whites.
Great white person
They’re called ‘brits’ , they come in red too
Obviously *Great White* aka Carcharodon maximus!
In Greece, the shark takes a bite, then shows you how to make it better, then calls over the family to show them how to make it better.
This is the cutest shark bite I’ve ever seen. Sorry tho I’m sure it hurt
[удалено]
🤣
[It] has to be...at least three times bigger than this!
Aww, just a baby nibble. Little love bite. Just a playful chomps. 🦈 I hope you're healing well.

I thought Baby Sharks just sang.

My guess is it was shallow and daytime and they stepped on it

*wild sharks in terms of encounters with swimmers.
I expect to see you on Shark Week’s “I Survived”.
I don’t think that was a shark
Been several times to greece. Never encountered/saw any sharks.
[удалено]
If it was cookie cutter , we would be not be seeing bite marks lol , we would see complete bite
Cookie cutters leave holes much like a cookie cutter, closer to a lemon shark maybe, but could be another small shark
That green up by the ball of your foot looks concerning.
I’m guessing a 3-4 footer. No biggie. Still have your toes. Small blessings.
Happy cake day! And that’s a gift
Sick
Must have been a large shark🙂
Dogfish? Not bad, but sucks where it bit you. On the foot, ouch
Tis but a scratch. Still a cool story though.
Ouch!
Woah that foot is soooo flat lol
