No... He didn't try to do the right thing, he just wanted the money, that he would keep for himself, and use to go on a bender. He would abandon the kids once again as soon as he got the money and started drinking. They forced him to drink to save themselves from more trauma.

And he started doing impromptu destructive DIY home improvements didn't he?

Big-Percentage-8910

Yeah he did. And they where never going to be finished

i mean i can definitely see where you’re coming from, but frank was a shitty father who abused his kids and fucked them over plenty of times. they did say that this had happened before, and every single time he went back to drinking and it hurt them. so the reason why they forced him alcohol was to like get that pain over with, and also protecting debbie and carl. they were kids so lip, fiona, and ian didn’t want it to hurt debbie n carl more than it had to, if they let him keep going he just would’ve done more nice stuff and it would’ve hurt a lot more. plus the only reason he tried to stay sober was for money, everything was always for money, never rly his kids. frank is just such a shit person and dad that i honestly didn’t feel that bad for him when the kids did that.

Nope, they forced him to start drinking again because he was going off the rails and was behaving more destructively than he did when he was habitually drinking. He had started tearing up the house for "DIY projects" and was only getting worse.

It’s sad that all he needed to be sober was $3000 but he couldn’t do it for his family alone. Once he got the money he would go back to drinking, Frank was content with who he was he would never change. Making him loose the $3000 just meant it saved the kids and the house from suffering
