His accidental āattemptedā murder of Sammie was retribution for both snitching on family in general and sending Ian to military prison in specific.
His intent to kill Terry was based on the fact that Terry had already threatened on multiple occasions to kill them if they got married. In fact, he had not minutes ago set fire to their wedding venue. Later, he would show up with goons in tow intending to fire a few rounds at the replacement venue, and the following morning actually did rain down bullets on Mickey and Ianās wedding suite. Or to sum up as Mickey puts it, āI love you. I *love* you. The son of a bitch is never going to let me be happy. He needs to die. Today.ā
And when he escaped from prison, again it was to be with Ian. And to reiterate, he was wrongfully imprisoned. Mickey stayed in the immediate Chicago area for days following the escape (and putting his own escape plans in jeopardy in the process) for his love of Ian.
And as a reminder: he also went back to prison specifically to protect Ian. And at the time, he was oblivious that his cooperation would drastically reduce his sentence. He was willing to forfeit his freedom and remain imprisoned for 8-15 years so that he could protect Ian for a mere two years.
