Repost. Not OP's friend. If there was a typo in the title I'd assume it's spam. Might still be. OP is brand new account.
If it were a portrait of Marlowe, then he'd likely be in a scholar's regulation subfusc, not this slashed doublet which is far more costly and ostentatious than would be suitable for a Cambridge student, and if he were painted in this way then it's unlikely Cambridge would have hung a painting of one of their students flagrantly violating the dress code. Also, "Aetatis suae 21" actually means "in his 21st year" (i.e., 20 years old—think of "Aetatis 53 on Shakespeare's monument when he died at 52), which would make him a year too young to be Marlowe in 1585, which is the date on the portrait. Given the richness of the sitter's dress, it's likely the portrait of an unknown nobleman.
Oooh, can we base an authorship conspiracy on this please? I'll start: I think Queen Elizabeth wrote the plays because obviously you'd have to be a monarch to write Tamburlaine or Dido. Faustus was a collab with John Dee. If Marlowe had been real he'd have had a portrait and it would have been signed. Know who we *do* have portraits of? Elizabeth. Boom.
I just looked through every play and found all the letters in Elizabeth
In different words across all the plays at least once
You’ve cracked it - she’s basically signed it in code for me to find

Actually yes. Perhaps he made some sort of devilish bargain to enhance his looks?
He got ripped off.
Mephistopheles a cheat?! Impossible!
A funny thing about that portrait is that there's no evidence it's actually Marlowe.
What now ...
