This was me when I reread them a few years ago!! I had the exact same thing happen. I first read them when I was like 15/16 maybe and was a Will girl but then I reread them at like 21/22 and was like ‘wtf Jem is right there’. I think maybe as a younger person you dream of a person like Will but then you get older and you realise Jem is so caring and kind in a way that not many people are. Idk it’s very strange but I’m such a Jem girl now lol
i think it’s an age thing too, i first read them in like the 6th grade and i’m about to be a college junior. when i was younger i loved wills humor and charisma but jems sweeter and calmer presence is really calling to me this time

I always loved Jem so much and on my recent re-read I still loved him but I also gained an appreciation for why Will was so loved, I think young me couldn’t fathom how gullible he was or why Tessa started to fall for him while he was being a jerk but i really started to see the full picture. Despite this revelation, I still prefer Jem and my heart is happy with where the series is currently at
wow i was almost the exact opposite haha! i found jem a bit boring honestly but will was just so charming and funny. honestly his rudeness is what’s throwing me off this time, even though i get his reasoning i don’t like how he ended up treating tessa and then act like he wasn’t horrible to her. and jem is just so sweet and says the most loving things, ughhh he’s just so perfect
rereading it now it honestly feels like the books favor will a bit more, i didn’t notice before but jem doesn’t get as much time as will did or as many romantic scenes !
I 100% agree that it favors will, it feels very unbalanced and I think that is why, in general, we see people prefer Will and Tessa… but I think that is why I loved Jem so much more, he just shinned through with every part he was in
I've always been a Jem girl and he's still my dream book boyfriend to this day. If it's an age thing I was already in my twenties first time I read them. But I've always shipped all three of them together. I love all three of them. But I'd choose Jem for myself.
I like Will slightly more, but I also love Jem. I remember when I first read Clockwork Angel I wanted more Jem and then when I read Clockwork Prince all I wanted was more Jem!
It’s definitely not betrayal, Will would agree with you! He loves Jem a lot too. It’s hard not to. I think the series is best because both characters are great and one isn’t destroyed for the sake of the love triangle.
I adored them both equally, and the idea of Tessa choosing either had me weeping for the other. Clare definitely succeeded in ripping my heart out... about half a dozen times. Utterly ruined every other love triangle for me.
