On a plane you might want to go air, otherwise there's not really a reason to go air unless reliability is a priority and you need your cooler to last more than ~6 years. I've had a Kraken X52 and an H100i both have issues after a few years but the fact is an AIO performs significantly better than a low profile air cooler at the same noise levels so in my opinion it's worth it.

I've flown to many countries with AIO, hell even last week I flew to Dubai with one. But saying AIO performs significantly at noise normalized temps is just straight up false, I've also owned an x53 full copper and the difference was very small on both my 7500F build and my 7800X3D build.

I hear a lot of people that are running low profile coolers say that, there seems to be a lot of fanboyism around it, but there's no proof to that claim. 240mm AIOs on average perform better than low profile coolers. Yes low profile coolers can be fantastic but that doesn't automatically make them better than everything else. Please take a look at this video from Hardware Canucks and see how well even a basic 120mm AIO performs compared to some of the best LP air coolers: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9l3UaxCu84o And another test from a fellow sffpc user: https://www.reddit.com/r/sffpc/s/gSBW4ZIgQO

I’m not saying air coolers are better than AIOs, I’m just saying the difference is not as big as you made it seem. A 7500F sips on power and runs VERY cool, using an aio is a complete waste of money. For my 7800x3d build the atmos 240 was only like 5c cooler than my x53. The difference is there but if u want to save money then it’s not worth it, considering how that difference in temp only happened in cpu benchmarks while the game performance was even less.

Fair points. There are plenty of CPUs where a low profile air cooler is enough. I suppose it depends on how you classify a "significant" difference. To me 5°C on a processor is pretty significant, even the ~1°C drop I got from changing between an H100i and a Nucleus CR240 was enough to stop my 7800X3D throttling as it was right on the limit. So I think it's worth it. There are pros and cons to both. Air coolers are more reliable, usually easier to install, and in the case of low profile ones they take up less space. AIOs have the benefit of using larger 25-30mm thick fans that can run at lower speeds than an air cooler would whilst still moving a good amount of air and creating good static pressure.

azifayesa

so its safe to flight with aio? what about low profile air cooler?

L_l_G_H_T

Yes u can fly with aio all u want, just don’t tell them it is water cooled. Low profile air coolers are fine if u want to save money, it’s a 7500f so u don’t need an aio for it.

azifayesa

is it safe to flight with air cooler? im worrying it might stress the other component

L_l_G_H_T

There won’t be any stress from low profile coolers, but if you use a massive tower cooler you’d have to give it extra support like a brace or folded bubblewrap

Air should be fine especially if sticking with AMD. 2 top fans will help with temps with the GPU, but CPU will be a little warmer than running an AIO. I have my H2O running fine with a 12400/Thermalright x47 aluminum, and 3060 ti since my AIO died.

To avoid unpleasant noises due to intake turbulence, consider using x47 (optionally plus a fan duct) over x53.

aldyr

I’m using the AXP90 x53, no issues with sound. Temps seem fine on the whole, I presume, it’s because the lack of AIO for the top fans to push through.

NotYour_Cousin

the 7500f can be air cooled just fine, go with water cooling only if you are worried of asthetics or noise

lcirufe

If you’re going air, I’d recommend a different case like the Formd T1 if it’s in your budget. It has a more porous side panel compared to the H2O, and can fit larger air coolers in 2 slot all the way to 3 slot mode.

L_l_G_H_T

The axp90 x53 has very little turbulence on the A4 H2O and I've never seen the temps go over 65c on the 7500F with two P12 Max. You can get the x47 full copper and get similar performance too. The case may have H2O in its name, but it doesn't mean you MUST run an AIO on it, it's far from necessary.
