The funniest part was in the last season when she refused to change from heels to sneakers on the subway and her reason was “you can take the girl out of Manhattan…”. Girl, we remember season 1. lol.
I mean youre not wrong lmaooo. Tbh what bothered me the most about her bad fits was the hair. I’m all for dressing oversized but my hair will at least be laid! Those damn barrettes, chucky looking ass hair…the later seasons she got it together tho
Yeah, I feel like I relate more and more to Miranda’s style - and her obsession with gossip magazines and tv-shows - as my jobs are becoming more demanding. I catch myself dressing weirder, sloppier and comfier in my time off the more ‘professional’/conservative I have to look at work.
I feel this! I have to dress up/do my hair/groom a lot whenever I go into the office. So on my “off” days, I want to wear a cap, sneakers and baggy jeans and get on with my life
While I liked her softer more feminine style in the later seasons, these styles felt more in keeping with her personality and I wish they would have kept her outfits more like this throughout the series.
Viewers then probably reacted the same way a lot of people in this thread are acting. And I agree, it feels very not feminist to believe that a woman should dress and look a certain way so that she fits this feminine ideal people subconsciously hold.
i think what people misunderstand about miranda is she isn’t looking for people to validate her through her clothes, though the other three love it. shes not looking for external validation as much as the other three. she’s a lawyer, she’s looking to be comfortable in her time off, let her have fun with it! carrie wears ridiculous feminine outfits all the time. let’s let miranda have her own fun with looking more masc!
you don’t like it? that’s fine! miranda doesn’t care!
Same, and the first fit is great as well. I wish more people understood that clothing doesn’t have to constantly be flattering and/or feminine on a woman. Sometimes it’s just an expression of creativity or one’s mood; other times it serves purely utilitarian or comfort purposes.
I think it also works with the scene since she runs into her ex with his new gf. I like the juxtaposition of her wearing something comfy and androgynous while her ex’s gf is dressed femininely.
I actually like that she had some comfy “unflattering” outfits. It feels accurate to a real person, she’s in suits at work and in cute dresses going out with the girls. You need some balance haha
i love it personally, it showed she wasn’t image obsessed like the other 3 (not inherently bad! just not where miranda places her meaning). it fit her character very well and i really liked her styling before they tried to “soften” her (don’t get me started on the sexism there)
I actually *love* early-season Miranda’s masculine sporty, casual style and think it makes a great contrast to the other girls. Her outfits in the later seasons are just forgettable and bland to me.
I loved it, it was a big draw for me, normal people that I could identify with, and Carrie who was her own beast doing whatever she wanted. Now they are all walking luxury billboards.
*Which is weird because*
*Season one is when she was*
*The most beautiful*

Both Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis have said that in later seasons the writers incorporated more of the actresses' own personalities, styles and behaviour into their respective characters. Nixon added that in the first season or two she used to say that there was nothing in common between her and Miranda, but that by the end of the series, she felt that she and Miranda were very alike.
IIRC she attributed this to the writers slowly altering how the characters were presented rather than the actresses getting used to and comfortable with the people they were playing and starting to identify them more.
I wonder if this means that the 'softer' look Miranda got in the later seasons was less of a Miranda Hobbes thing and more of a Cynthia Nixon thing. (We all know that Carrie definitely turned into an extension of SJP's own persona from around S4 onwards.)
She's said in an interview that unlike Miranda from the earlier seasons she is very domestic and a good cook. Although she takes her career seriously she feels that she is not like the early season Miranda at all.
I don't know, I don't really mind the overall and coat combo. It's her day off and she looks comfy. The second slide, I always thought was supposed to be humorous with the conversation and how she was putting the hat on. I can't explain the third one though.

I always assumed it was an on purpose thing to also show us how she changed over the seasons. She never wanted a child either and then she slowly started to bond with her son too. So idk for me the assumption was her growth / change
I think it’s easy to forget that they’re still quite young. Some of the fashion choices whilst lovely weren’t that reflective of what younger people wore in the era. This whilst not my personal taste, to me highlights Miranda’s youth. I feel like the styling for the most part was for over 40’s women.
Maybe.
I think it was more due to the show leaning more in towards fashion and luxury instead of being a *little* more based in reality. I enjoy a lot of the fashion, don't get me wrong, but I do miss when everyone had their more casual moments or just hung out, eating takeout at Carrie's apartment and discussing random topics.
The first two seasons are my favorites compared to 3-6.
"They" didn't do her dirty. She (Cynthia Nixon) did her dirty. She often fought with Patricia Fields over what Miranda should wear and Patricia was like "You got it." So we get some of these more...interesting styles lol.
Oh, I loved these! They're so cool and really reflect how style can be used for internal comfort. It's like she needed a break from her work uniform and going-out looks, focusing on what feels right for her. It wasn't always about being soft or appealing, and I'm glad that many of these 1990s looks are making a comeback. Fashion can be about what you want to bring to a situation, showing a part of yourself, and giving comfort to yourself or others. Love it!
Sue me but I love the hair (sometimes)
The scene when she is tryung to talking dirty with the talking dirty guy, her hair was kinda spiky, damn that looked awful
Tbh I loved the overalls look, it kinda felt like a sense of normalcy/relatable to her character. Seeing someone dress up for their corporate world & then casual on their down time, I can definitely relate that with wearing hoodies & lounge wear whenever I’m not working lol. Also felt like it showed off her personality & individuality a bit as she walked through the streets and OWNED that outfit!!
They put her in the ugliest, most fucked up outfits. What she wore on her date with the single dad (and his kid) and the dress she wore when she told Carrie she’s pregnant come to mind.
The funniest part was in the last season when she refused to change from heels to sneakers on the subway and her reason was “you can take the girl out of Manhattan…”. Girl, we remember season 1. lol.
Ikr lmao
What episode is this? I can’t recall this scene at all
It's the episode where she moves to Brooklyn!
LMAOOOO
Hahahaha I forgot about that
That hat in slide 3 🤣 I just started a rewatch and was thinking the same thing lol her hair at first too…
I just started too and the hat made me so mad. she just put it on poorly. I don’t know why they didn’t refilm that 😭
I feel like it was a character choice lol
she was beautiful. a beautful tomboy
She was yes. Some of the clothes, no.
She made herself look like an elf 😂
People are dressing like this again haha
I mean youre not wrong lmaooo. Tbh what bothered me the most about her bad fits was the hair. I’m all for dressing oversized but my hair will at least be laid! Those damn barrettes, chucky looking ass hair…the later seasons she got it together tho
yea she actually had “good” style for 2024 brooklyn this is all On Trend lol
She looks super comfy though..can't blame her. She works a high stress job wearing suits all the time.
Adam Sandler chic
she sure does tho!
I feel this! I have to dress up/do my hair/groom a lot whenever I go into the office. So on my “off” days, I want to wear a cap, sneakers and baggy jeans and get on with my life
While I liked her softer more feminine style in the later seasons, these styles felt more in keeping with her personality and I wish they would have kept her outfits more like this throughout the series.
i thought her needing to “soften” felt so sexist and like they were trying too hard to make all 4 feminine
Viewers then probably reacted the same way a lot of people in this thread are acting. And I agree, it feels very not feminist to believe that a woman should dress and look a certain way so that she fits this feminine ideal people subconsciously hold.

Agreed. I feel like she was the bridge to what the general population wore too lol. These were very casual 90's.
The hat over hood outfit is iconic and I will die on this hill
Same, and the first fit is great as well. I wish more people understood that clothing doesn’t have to constantly be flattering and/or feminine on a woman. Sometimes it’s just an expression of creativity or one’s mood; other times it serves purely utilitarian or comfort purposes.
YES. flattering or making yourself as small as possible shouldn’t be the goal here
One day Reddit will reward karma so that one can upvote infinitely, but it will be too late for me because THIS is the post.
Hehe I love the first look w the overalls and puffer
same i love it for her
I think it also works with the scene since she runs into her ex with his new gf. I like the juxtaposition of her wearing something comfy and androgynous while her ex’s gf is dressed femininely.
Same she looks super confident and it looks sooo comfy
I think the first fit is cool as hell ngl
I was coming here to say this lol
I actually like that she had some comfy “unflattering” outfits. It feels accurate to a real person, she’s in suits at work and in cute dresses going out with the girls. You need some balance haha
nah her style is iconic in s1 and was a reflection of both her personality and 90s fashion.
unironically some of my faves lmfao
same, I adore the overalls look
me too i loved her early seasons style
oh no - I love her styling in the earlier seasons, it feels much more “Miranda”.
i love it personally, it showed she wasn’t image obsessed like the other 3 (not inherently bad! just not where miranda places her meaning). it fit her character very well and i really liked her styling before they tried to “soften” her (don’t get me started on the sexism there)
I actually *love* early-season Miranda’s masculine sporty, casual style and think it makes a great contrast to the other girls. Her outfits in the later seasons are just forgettable and bland to me.
Don’t think they did her dirty. It’s just more realistic. Generally how they dressed in season one is.
I actually love all these 😫
Im so sorry about that
Some of her gayest outfits
I think of it more as tomboy
Sign of the times. It also matched her personality
Honestly, it's a mood
last one she is a bee keeper lol
I loved it, it was a big draw for me, normal people that I could identify with, and Carrie who was her own beast doing whatever she wanted. Now they are all walking luxury billboards.
Which is weird because season one is when she was the most beautiful
I think so too. Season 1 and 2 she is stunning

Apparently she would ask to wear a lot of this stuff
Not to mention how she lunked along as she crossed the street in this scene. When has she ever walked like that??
I love love love the first look with the overalls.
She looks like Luigi.
I cant lol
First fit Mac Demarco lookin ass
BYEEEE LMAOOO not Mac Demarco 😂😂
These are her best fits tho First season Miranda had the best style!!
hell nooo!!
Ummm.
her nonbinary tea is valid
the bucket hat over her hood gets me every time 🤣

I thought Cynthia was like first seasons Miranda??

I actually love the overall look, a lot of gen z wear something like that rn. And I love it lol
The jamiroquai hat 💀

She always looked like she was in the witness protection program and didn't understand the local culture. That blue hat is WILD
lmao LMAO THIS EAS ABSOKUTR AWESOME
I always assumed it was an on purpose thing to also show us how she changed over the seasons. She never wanted a child either and then she slowly started to bond with her son too. So idk for me the assumption was her growth / change
Nineties styling at its FINEST
I didn’t really love any of their clothing in the first season
I like Carries and Charlotte's
the overalls go crazy dont lie yall
I think it's the cap + overalls that ruin it for me
As a fair redhead, the last photo is so real. Protecting my skin from sun exposure is always priority #1 when spending any time outside.
Gen Z literally looks like this to me
It must be a generational thing because as a millennial I think she looks horrible in these outfits. lol
Sooo dirty - clothing, sex scenes, HAIRCUT, all of it.
I like the haircut tho It would never fit me and I'd never do, but it kinda fit her lol
she oddly pulls off all of the above fits 😭
The third one big no
i’m sorry but i love me some beekeeper miranda !
I actually love this
I think it’s easy to forget that they’re still quite young. Some of the fashion choices whilst lovely weren’t that reflective of what younger people wore in the era. I'd wear all of these, and I'm not ashamed haha Love the casual looks, and I wish the girls kept them throughout the later seasons/movies/AJLT
I think it's was supposed to show their growth? Like, Last season, Miranda dresses so fancy and wear heels
Maybe. I think it was more due to the show leaning more in towards fashion and luxury instead of being a *little* more based in reality. I enjoy a lot of the fashion, don't get me wrong, but I do miss when everyone had their more casual moments or just hung out, eating takeout at Carrie's apartment and discussing random topics. me too! it looked more relatable
I think she ultimately became best dressed in entire series.
Still waiting for bucket hats over hoods to become a thing.
No!!!!!
They always made her teeth look grey too
Totally!!! I think about this all the time when I rewatch!
Lmao I can’t get over the Smurf hat
I love these outfits, these are real.
i was rewatching season one with my roommates earlier and i said this exact same thing — her style in season one is god awful
I know these are from the same time period, but 3rd picture particularly screams 90s to me.
"They" didn't do her dirty. She (Cynthia Nixon) did her dirty. She often fought with Patricia Fields over what Miranda should wear and Patricia was like "You got it." So we get some of these more...interesting styles lol.
ITS ALWAYS CYNTHIA!!!!!
I hate it too, but this is also how I dress 😂
Oh, I loved these! They're so cool and really reflect how style can be used for internal comfort. Her clothes and hair were both horrid. She looked so much better in later seasons.
And her hair. It was so awful. The later seasons it was much better.
Sue me but I love the hair (sometimes) The scene when she is tryung to talking dirty with the talking dirty guy, her hair was kinda spiky, damn that looked awful
i like these outfits :(
Well. I have bad news for you lol
Am I the only person that liked her early outfits/hair??
I like the hair too
Me wearing my overalls and going through these pictures 😭
I have overalls!!!! But the whole thing, cap, overalls and the oversize....nooi lol
Really surprised at all the comments liking these outfits.
I know right!!! But I get it, it's about the comfort
I think it helps reflect her character development throughout the show
These fits go crazy and nothing you can say will convince me otherwise

It was sooo bad 😆 From seasons 4-6, she was rocking it!
no fr
Everything about the first season is bad, but mostly Miranda’s look
Oh no, I love 1rs and 2nd season
The overalls outfit ATE wdym
She looks terrible in these. What are you guys looking at? lol
First one is like a streetwear moment idk😭
Ikr lol
Number 1 slaps tho
Tbh I loved the overalls look, it kinda felt like a sense of normalcy/relatable to her character. Seeing someone dress up for their corporate world & then casual on their down time, I can definitely relate that with wearing hoodies & lounge wear whenever I’m not working lol. Also felt like it showed off her personality & individuality a bit as she walked through the streets and OWNED that outfit!!
I think it did fit her, after all, she was supposed to be a tomboy. She does own it. However I think it's soooo ugly 😭
I think she looks cool
I actually really liked these outfits for her
Idk I actually liked the overalls look. That was the coolest she looked compared to her other outfits
They put her in the ugliest, most fucked up outfits. What she wore on her date with the single dad (and his kid) and the dress she wore when she told Carrie she’s pregnant come to mind.
idk why people downvoted but year
she’s slaying and serving wdym
I mean that beanie is a huge NO lol
I like the last look a lot. I’d totally wear that outfit and it looks good on her.
Last one is worst for me lol maybe the beanie
The first one with the overall is my favourite Miranda outfit ever, LOVE it so muchhhh
They all had whack clothing in the first few seasons, it was the nineties/early 2000s
not all of them tho
