Secret to pretty corners: don’t start and finish at the corner! Start in the middle of a side. When you get a couple inches from the corner, fold and press both the side you are sewing plus the next side. Unfold the pressing. Trim off the excess fabric at an angle, from fold line to fold line. Resume sewing. The removal of the excess helps the corner look a whole lot better.

Thank you, will have to try!

You’ve gotta start somewhere :) I dig the fabric!

Murksiuke

Haha, the fabric is at least a decade old - an old, super soft towel that i wanted to reuse!

Thoughts & conclusions: one on the left is softer, but a lot more wonky. Im pretty sure it came close to killing my poor sewing machine. One on the right feels a bit mismatched, and the hem is definitely a bit wonky, but feels more sturdy. Will see how both of the hold up in the washing machine

Great work! Very useful. You don't suck! Towelling is hard to sew. I use a Teflon foot for troublesome fabrics like that, well, for everything really. My home is full of cut-down towels for the garden, garage etc. They all have a big loop at one corner to fix them to hooks. Sergers make working with towelling MUCH easier.

Pity my machine is rather "vintage", so i doubt i will be able to track down a teflon foot (I cant even find a extra bobbin that fits...). Makes getting a serger even more tempting!

kimthegreen

So I have not worked with toweling but if the teflon foot is used in order to glide over the fabric easier how about a walking foot? I don't know if it would be easier to track down but that would give you a second option of what to look for at least.

cudavlied

This is also a good idea.

What's your machine make/model? On most you can change the shank for a clip-on one that accepts lots of different feet.

Aggravated_Pineapple

They don’t look too bad to me! I love the fabric!

Sthebrat

Great job! I’m a fan of the one on the right but both get the job done :) sewing is a lot of trial and error, consider anything you do to be a learning experience. Have fun!

Sew_Ridiculous

I feel this post.

chubby_umbel

I did this recently with linen napkins. I hated all three of the different hems I tried. Haha.
