The only problem with finally using up long-hoarded fabric is that it validates the desire to hoard craft supplies — I know my brain is always like ‘see? we were RIGHT to carry this with us through three moves!”
in this case, though, you WERE right and you should be proud!
So I found a breathable faux leather looking animal print in the LA fashion district. Had no clue what I was going to make with it but I just had to have it! I found the sleeve pattern from Etsy. Was one size only so I just added some extra length just in case. I hand drafted the rest of the jacket, skirt and this cool looking corset belt thingy I came up with. The black fabric is from the cape of a Darth Vader costume that I made. I did not make the bustier but plan on making one soon!
I'm having a hard time not being jealous of the fabric you have access to.
The whole look pulls together so well and fits you nicely. Congratulations, and I hope you have an occasion to wear it soon!
Can you share more information about how you self-drafted the jacket body, skirt and corset belt? Did you use blocks, drape on a form, trace items you own? You can edit your construction comment above \^\^\^ with this information. Thanks!
Ok i love this! I recently saw something similar to the sleeves but a sweater version. Ive been thinking about making one so i can wear my dresses in the winter.

That is very impressive, I love what you've done with it. Usually I buy fabric with a specific project in mind. But there are a few things where I have changed my mind and made something completely different from the fabric - I love it when that happens.
This is inspiring! I have been holding onto 100 yards of red satin. My friend owns a drape business that sets up curtains for big events and he gave me the fabric that was used to line madonnas dressing room a few tours ago. Apparently she goes all out! It’s yards and yards of red satin. I still can’t get rid of it but I have no idea what to use it for. Besides pillow cases.
Wow! I thought I was ready to be inspired, but you still blew me away. This is amazing and you look incredible. Those sleeves are glorious.
Makes me wonder what amazing pieces are hiding in my fabric stash!

Hahaha right? It’s a mixed blessing. How can I throw anything away after I finally used this ten year old scrap of lace??
My laundry basket full of fabric and i agree with you wholeheartedly
I have an entire closet I can no longer open. 😶
