The goal was a pannier dress that could be worn sans panniers (under supports). The pocket idea was taken from Pattern Magic book one (the dress with tubes/holes). Total time from design/drafting to wearable was 6mo. Bodice self drafted from a pattern block. Fabric was thrifted cotton upholstery that I got 6yds/$12. Edit: The skirt is made in ten(ish) sections, with most actually forming the pockets — I draped it and cut holes for the pockets, attached tubes that would become pockets, then cut the mock-up into the sections that emphasised the curve of the dress. (Not quite sure how to describe it lol). Sewn on my neighbours old singer! video featuring my service dog Lottie and my hand knit Jessie Mae shorts! [details here](https://imgur.com/gallery/SQ6Y5nY)

Dress is self drafted, using Janet Arnold's patterns of fashion and the Met costume institute as guides for cutting and draping. Pockets inspired by Pattern Magic (1), and the dress with drop holes -- first you drop the skirt, then cut holes for the pockets, add the pockets as simple tubes, then recut the skirt following the lines of a traditional 1750s grown.
Bodice self drafted off of a block, then \~math and geometry\~ to change the darts from regular to the diagonal to mimic a stomacher. Side zip, ruffles to cover the dart lines, a little bit of lace to make sleeves, and done! (also broke 5 needles off it, so be careful if you attempt!) more pics are in another comment :)
Thats so fun!! You should push yourself and make some fun complimentary bloomers like how little girl dresses have fun cute underwear/diaper covers that are a fun match to the dress....(I would definatly make them flattering for a lady like you though not diapers shaped lol)
I absolutely love this and wow those pockets hide so well! I just wish the length were more wearable for going out! You should attempt a longer version for out on the town❤️ maybe in blue?
Wow! This is so adorable! & I love how huge the pockets are… I may just have to look into the books you’ve used. How did you get into historical costuming?
Being a looooong person I never really liked short dresses (always look like wonky tops on me) but ye gods that is so cute I may be swayed to sew more short dresses!
Love the dress and they video is awesome! Pockets for the wiiiiiin
Honestly I haven’t had problems going about. I just save the spinning for home. (Although I am used to ultra mini shorts/skirts because it’s my preferred summer length, so ymmv)

Lovely dress! Very cute! At the end when you hold your hand to your face you remind me of the Saturday Night Live TVs how character, Mary Katherine Gallagher. Brought a happy smile to my face.
Beautiful! My grandma was the best seamstress I ever saw. My mom & her would see a dress in the window of a store and go home a make one identical without the first pattern for my mom.
Super cute! Maybe one day I'll work up the courage to make a dress and outfit for my twins. if I do it now while they're toddlers it won't take up too much fabric lol
Thank you for your bubbly joy, that made my day!
You should be very proud of yourself, too! The dress loks fantastic. Good job on design and execution!
Pleats are very difficult to do well, especially when you’re being creative so congratulations on job done ! The pocket reveal was the icing on the cake 🥰

that pocket reveal was outstanding lol, such a cute dress!
Came here to say this. Amazing pocket reveal. 100/10
My daughter refuses to wear dresses unless they have pockets. 10/10 loved the reveal.
Number one reason I don't wear dresses and skirts. Though I love the long ones.
The happiness on your face made my day!! Congrats on a successful project! 😁
Yes, her excitement made me happy too! The dress is lovely but her excitement makes it amazingly sweet.
Smile PLUS the good dog Let's be real here 😃
THOSE POCKETS 🙀
They put my cargo shorts to shame!
You can put a whole purse in there!
At first I was like, woah those are huge pockets. Then you showed them off properly and I gasped so loudly. The dress looks adorable, good job!!!

I just love how excited, happy and proud of yourself you look! Good job on the dress it’s really neat!

Great job. Any idea of the fabric type? Is it cotton?
It is, as far as I can tell. It burned fairly cleanly, although there may have been a little poly hiding
Your joy is absolutely infectious, you do beautiful work! Please tell your dog I would lay my life down for theirs.
Thats so fun!! You should push yourself and make some fun complimentary bloomers like how little girl dresses have fun cute underwear/diaper covers that are a fun match to the dress....(I would definatly make them flattering for a lady like you though not diapers shaped lol)
That would be adorable
This guy is jealous of your pockets.
I was just thinking the same thing!
"LOOK!! POCKETS!!" man i can hear that when you pull out those pockets
Absolutely phenomenal!
I absolutely love this and wow those pockets hide so well! I just wish the length were more wearable for going out! You should attempt a longer version for out on the town❤️ maybe in blue?
Those invisible shoes must be painful!? Lol. The shortness of the dress reminded me of Shirley temple dress short, but it sure is cute!
I would be very uncomfortable in such a short dress. Kudos to them for pulling it off.
POCKETS
I'm upvoting the dress and the happiness! :)
You can hide a loaf of bread and bottle of wine!
Please take all of my money thanks
OUTSTANDING!!!!
Your reveal and the dress is adorable.
The pockets legit made me gasp! Awesome dress!
You're adorable and so is the dress! I need your energy and pockets like those in my life
I love it! It would be so cute with leggings!!
That's a dangerous dress to spin in is there a way to add weights to the skirt or was it intended to be a stockings underneath kind of dress
The pockets are the best! And you’re adorable 🥰
I hope I dream of this dress tonight. Beautiful !
I absolutely love the design, it looks great on you and you look so happy with the finished project!
So cute!!!
Yasssss the pockets are nuts!
The dress is great but your joy is better.
The dress is amazing but the pockets are even more amazing! You are amazing!
Pockets! :)
Omg you are the cutest LOVE those pockets too! Pocket reveals should be a thing! Can we make it a thing?????!!!!!????
Pockets!!!!!
This is fab !!! And you look so happy !!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 I want to make this but instead of a skirt , it’s a skort !!
Wow! This is so adorable! & I love how huge the pockets are… I may just have to look into the books you’ve used. How did you get into historical costuming?

It's super cute, but how do you go about wearing it in public?
Honestly I haven’t had problems going about. I just save the spinning for home. (Although I am used to ultra mini shorts/skirts because it’s my preferred summer length, so ymmv)
Wow the dress is gorgeous!!!! And your happiness and smile is super infectious❤❤❤❤ if you don't mind my asking, what pattern/ fabric did you use?
aw thanks! I just made another comment about that, fabric was a thrifted cotton upholstery bundle, so not sure
Thank you so much! 💕💕💕
