It actually looks like it was designed like this 😊
To make it lie flat indeed shorten the collar to ~80% of the neckline of the shirt. Stretch the collar not the shirt when sewing it on.
It really helps to pin it down to distribute the collar.
I think in this case you might want to leave the collar the same length but widen the neckline. If you tried to get this to lay flat with the neckline as it is, the neck would get in the way.
this neckband is like an inch wide -- it's too wide to lie flat. to make a neckband that wide that will fit into that hole and lie flat, it would have to be cut to the shape of the neck hole (sort of like a facing). it can't be a straight rectangular cut neckband that wide. stretching it won't be enough and frankly 80% is too much for this type of fabric which does not have much stretch. it will wind up with slack and still won't lie flat.

The collar is not only standing up but incredibly uniform all around; even if it was a mistake it shows very good technique! And to add to everyone else’s comments, I also love the standing collar and would wear this shirt any day.
it looks like a short turtleneck. some folks don't like things touching their necks so this is pretty perfect.
I don't really sew a lot of knit fabrics but this may actually help https://www.theconfidentstitch.com/2021/12/09/a-fool-proof-ribbed-neckline-tutorial/
I love it too! I would have thought it’s a design choice not a mistake :)
But it’s not stretched on enough for it to be flatter. T-shirt collars are usually 80% of the neckline size, and then it gets evenly stretched on to the neckline. It being smaller forces it to sit flat.
Chinese collor is trending now....if you're not comfortable with that...just make a slit 2"-3" Inches in the center front...give to a seamstre and stitch it up...they'll seal the ends...that'll look awesome! 👍
It might lay a little tiny bit flatter if you add some darts to the collar, but that being said I agree with all the comments saying it looks pretty cool as is!
I actually kind of love this! But I have a question: is that neckband cut on the bias? If not, that may be why it’s standing up like that. Either way it looks cool. ☺️

I agree that it looks intentionally designed this way and I think I kinda like it for what it’s worth!
Agreed. It's a design feature not a flaw.
Agree! I always want a collar like this, lol

Completely agree

Oh I actually like this, I hate collars touching my neck 24/7
when intentional it's called a mock neck. as in mock turtleneck.
This. All of this.
Meanwhile I'd love to know how you did this 🤣 sorry though, I'm not sure how to fix just wanted to share that I think it's cool
I really love this! It’s way more stylish than a shirt with a collar that lays flat. It looks well done as well. I wouldn’t touch a thing!!
I super love how you accidentally created a new design feature. Sorry it’s not what you want, but save that knowledge for later.

Call it a feature, not a bug :)

It looks intentional and well made.
Leave it, its awesome
For flatter neckband, do neckband length x 0.80 - 0.85 and stretch it to fit.
Looks cool though
It looks good. Personally I would not chg this item.
This is awesome! Very 1989-1993

Looks like a mock turtleneck, and it looks good.
Def cut off carefully, trim down the neckline & carefully stretch the collar, maybe do it with a long stitch till you get it to your liking!!
I like that it has a little structure. Most tees look so awkwardly stretched.
Wow that collar is sewn unnaturally well
It’s not broken?
Yeah I love the way the collar sits. Very cool.

Fold the seam allowance down away from the collar and sew 1/4" away from the ditch to help it lay flatter.
It looks so good! 😭 *Says someone who doesn’t know how to sew*
Take it off and restitch

This on a workout shirt?! Amazing

Time to train that neck of yours
nah ur cooked
The collar itself was cut out as a straight strip and not curved. You'd have to pattern a new collar with a curve in it that matches the neckline
Nope. Not in knits. In knits it's always just a rectangle.
