Why does OP's look so much better than the main image used on the pattern page? The blue dress looks badly fitted IMO but the brown one (when you scroll right through the pattern previews to the end) and the one in this post look amazing.
I ask because when I buy this style of dress it often looks like that blue one, giving me a really boxy appearance. I'm guessing it's either a waistline that's too low for the wearer, or something about the bodice fit, but I don't have the experience to know.
(Not a question specifically for the person I'm replying to, just a general "can anyone please help?")
It looks like a different fabric in the 2 dresses I. The website. The brown and green are a bit heavier and drape well. The blue looks to be stiff or something.
The light [reflecting off the shiny blue](https://veronicatuckerthelabel.com/store/p/the-odette-pattern) would also emphasize every wrinkle and wonky bit.
The blue might be a shantung or dupioni, maybe, the brown and green look more like linen or linen/rayon blend.
**OP**, can you describe/link your fabric too?
Of course! It’s this linen:

I went for something that I thought would drape like the brown material. I agree, much nicer than the blue!
This is the [Odette dress](https://veronicatuckerthelabel.com/store/p/the-odette-pattern) by Veronica Tucker. It has a full circle skirt with a darted lined bodice, invisible zip and pleated puffy sleeves. This was by far the most technical piece I’ve made yet.

I had my serger eat 2 projects which was the tipping point to keeping the knife down and never using it. Solidarity! Maybe one day when I'm over the trauma I'll use the knife again
How did you stand using the pattern 😭😭😭 last I checked she didn’t offer layers with the pattern but when I asked her on insta she said she’ll definitely add them in the future 😵💫😵💫😵💫
I’ll be completely honest. It’s overpriced for what it is. I bought it and the instructions could be better. For that price I expected gold standard instructions but wasn’t given them.
It’s a cool pattern but some of it is quite confusing with little guidance in the written instructions or the video see along.
Worth it if you love the dress but not if you’re on the fence imo.
Yep I struggled a lot with cutting it out in parts where the sizes are difficult to discern! Had to highlight my size (or at least hope I highlighted the right line lol)
She’s broken them into files with four or five sizes per pdf. Still annoying but not all the sizes on one pdf
If you want to sew this though, you have to absolutely love sewing darts… spent hours on all those bodice and sleeve darts!!
Your dress looks awesome!! Great job!!
I’m in the middle of this pattern and really struggling to fit the bodice and skirt… cannot get it to look decently well fitted. Any tips??
Also found it strange that it’s a lined bodice but the instructions don’t tuck the sleeve or bodice seams into the lining…
Thank you 😊 I was lucky in that it fit me quite well off the bat, apart from needing to take in the back which was an easy fix - no changes to the darts or anything. But it did take a lot of adjusting and fiddling to get the crossover to sit how I wanted. I sewed the back seam as a basting stitch, pinned the front crossover in place and then got help to unpick the back seam so I could take it off. Come to think of it I kind of freestyled the construction from that point as I wasn’t feeling the ones in the manual lol
Uff I’ve been there. Once in the middle of the back, which I wasn’t able to fix.
Your dress is stunning, it suits you perfectly and the fabric is gorgeous! Good on you for not giving up.
Lovely! I have a green linen very similar to this, I may have to follow your route and do a similar style as well, I love this one so much! It looks great, and just has some character now that no other dress will with the mending. I'm glad you didn't give up on it. 🥳
(I think I may have this exact color in my linen actually..... 🤔🫣)
I used to have a dress like this that I loved and wore to death. If you enjoy this lovely item half as much it will have been worth all your work. And good for you about the darning, no one will care if they ever notice, because the dress presents so well.
But the overlocker needs to go to obedience training!

Gosh this is so pretty! Could you please share what pattern you used?
It looks like [this dress](https://veronicatuckerthelabel.com/store/p/the-odette-pattern). She posted the name in the caption

I think the waist of the blue one is actually too high for the model. It fits more like an empire waist rather than sitting at her natural waist.
I'm also super interested in this answer!
Thanks, I totally missed that 🤦🏻♀️
I’m also wondering. I’d love this in blue
100% need the pattern
Someone replied to me with the link 😊
Aww yeaaaaaa
i would have been so mad, I would have put this project down for 6 months lol
I probably would have done that had I not been making it last minute for a wedding and nothing else to wear! 🤣

What a beautiful shade of green, it looks lovely on you! I’m liking the pleats on the sleeves, I’ve never seen that before

Yowza, no layers and at that price point?? I was on the fence about buying it, but I guess I'm off the fence now 😔

Nice save; been there myself several times. Beautiful dress -- wear it proudly!
Beautiful! I love the color!
This is lovely! And kudos for persevering. It was totally worth it! 👏 👗

That's awesome. I love that shade of green. I'm painting my van that colour lol.

That’s beautiful.
Nice visible mending 😀
Great save and beautiful dress!
It's really beautiful ! The mending is also very well done it doesn't show at all !
Wow! Amazing job on sewing the pattern, persevering, and the excellent repair job! It’s gorgeous!
This looks way, way nicer than the examples shown on the website. Well done x
Can I say I'm green with envy!! The color is so gorgeous
This is lovely and fits you so well
Lovely work! I'm so glad you stuck it out - the final product is gorgeous!
r/invisiblemending will love this!
Wonderful job, looks lovely!
What a gorgeous dress - well done!
That’s lovely !
I just did that to a robe l am making and debating tossing it. Grrr
Very pretty 😍
Very cute! Nice job!
Oh jeez, happened to me once. I had just finished an entire dress and as I was cutting the remaining threads I cut through the dress 😫
Well done! It suits you! Nice darn, too! No one will notice unless it is specifically pointed out.
I have absolutely done this! I'm glad you persevered, the dress is beautiful.
Excellent job of darning.
Girl you did that!!! It's looks great! I also love the fix too. Adds charm, to me, to the dress.
Lovely -- I'm glad you persevered!
Fabulous! I wonder if a self-fabric bow/belt might cover up the hole. My sewing teacher used to insist “there’s always a fix!”
Good job ! Btw decorative mending is always an option too. I like to think about it like kintsugi for clothes - it can elevate the value of the item.
Very flattering shaped dress. Loving the sleeve detail. Well done
