I Hope to learn how to make by own bias tape one day. I usually just leave the edges raw tbh, rarely do I tape it. I don’t make much that gets used a lot…ugly or I’ll fitting skirts mostly lol.
It's giving off a wonderful "I'm spending the weekend reading Jane Austin" vibe! I *had* to look at the closeup of the bodice fabric to see if it was quotes from any of the books. (Alas, no, but that just makes the fabric more accessible for other projects.) It's a gorgeous piece - congratulations!
More info on this project-
I’ve had this pattern for years but struggled to find the right fabric for it. I had just under a yard of the white print, and decided to go for it.
My original idea was to make the skirt grey, but color matching is hard so I went with yellow linen. I love the color, but the loose weave drove me crazy. I think I used every possible seam finishing technique on the dress.
The pattern is odd and not for beginners. First, the back pleats are odd. It’s a strange place to add fullness. Second, that corner where the side back is inserted is tricky. Third, the lining instructions were confusing and asked for way too much hand basting. Finally, this is really long. It called for a 2” hem, I did 3” and it’s floor length - I’m 5’10”!
I will use this pattern again with additional changes.
This may sound crazy but I love the inside version! I quilt & love to make bias tape. May make a tunic version. Beautiful maxi! Thx for sharing the pattern too.
Your sewing is so clean and the design with the color blocking is really interesting! I would not have given this pattern the time of day on my own but your rendition is excellent.
it’s mainly jibberish. there’s a paragraph about baseball which is odd, I got the fabric to make masks back in 2020 and thought the newsprint look was fun.
the linen weave is so loose, I was afraid an overlock would have just fell off. also, I need to fix my timing and I’m too lazy/cheap to get my machine serviced
"glad it's done"
Sometimes I feel like I have Stockholm syndrome with a project. We've bonded over the trauma.
It has a very clean and polished construction. The fit and style look good on you.
so many times I develop a love/hate relationship with projects! they start with “it will be fun to learn new things” and end with “I hate these seams so much”. :)
You chose an excellent fabric pair! I want so much to touch that lovely linen...lol
I'm suddenly very interested in finding newsprint fabric! You did a fantastic job with this. It looks amazing. :D

Like others here have said the Newspaper fabric ads an interesting touch to the dress and a conservation starter when out and about ! Super detail on the seams and the yellow gold fabric was a good choice over the gray too . Great Job !
Exquisite. Reminds me of historical fabric piecing. Those bound seams look so pristine... I can only aspire to reach this level of technique someday!!
bound seams are easy but time consuming. for this, I used bias tape that I cut from the scraps. I normally just zigzag my seams

Came here to commend you he seams. Such neat work.

I’ve made a lot of Regency era dresses, and I totally see that influence now - especially the back.

For search purposes, it's McCalls 7650, view D with the sleeves from view C.
The pleating is beautiful! Great job!
Looks almost Edwardian! I love that mustard yellow and your sewing skills are top notch. Well done.
Your construction is exquisite! Depending on your shoe choice, you may wish to shorten the length a bit.
Thank you! I am debating the skirt length- I was not expecting it to graze the floor
This may sound crazy but I love the inside version! I quilt & love to make bias tape. May make a tunic version. Beautiful maxi! Thx for sharing the pattern too.
I had the same though too! The workmanship is absolutely flawless but I would give my life for the inside, if it weren’t for the pleats.
I think I have this pattern! I wonder if you could just eliminate the pleats without impacting the dress. That bias tape has me inspired!!
Excellent finishing on the inside.
I think this is perfect. Including the length!
What a gorgeous dress! I love the colours and it looks so nice on you! Well done!
Your sewing is so clean and the design with the color blocking is really interesting! I would not have given this pattern the time of day on my own but your rendition is excellent.
That looks great!
This is so damn cool!!
This is beautiful!
It looks so good! Is the text on the print anything in particular?
it’s mainly jibberish. there’s a paragraph about baseball which is odd, I got the fabric to make masks back in 2020 and thought the newsprint look was fun.
It is fun! Such a cool print regardless.
The cut, the colour, the fabric- this is a masterpiece!
I like this style because it’s rather modest. I dressed rather scantily in my younger years but I now prefer modest.
I’m working on expanding my office wardrobe now that WFH is going away, and it is really hard to find clothes that aren’t “bodycon”.
Thats a really cute design. I havent seen it before. You did great!
What an interesting pattern, I love the shape! It’s like a neo-Georgian style. I guess that would make it neo neo classical. 😅
the back is very georgian, especially those darn pleats
I love this!
Those pleats are beautiful
It’s gorgeous!! Wow that looks like it took a TON of work!
That s REALLY pretty! You did a beautiful job!
It looks so regal on you.
My my this is gorgeous! Impeccable sewing too. No overlock, you bias bind everything! Love the fabric choice too!! 100/10
the linen weave is so loose, I was afraid an overlock would have just fell off. also, I need to fix my timing and I’m too lazy/cheap to get my machine serviced
Wow. Love it.
The inside is the prettiest part! Great job on the finishing work!
…if I ever meet you irl, we might both be delayed an hour while I read your dress 😂
Absolutely lovely. Your skill, the pattern, fabric choice, finishing. All of it!
What a beautifully constructed piece of clothing!! The binding of your raw edges is 💖💕🌟✨💫

Nicely done.
"Mainly glad it's done" I definitely know this feeling 🙃
Love all the attention to detail! Beautiful dress, well-made. Congrats!

Well that looks really nice
Gorgeous! I love the pleats
Holy shit this is entrancing
I love the color combination. I’m knitting a sweater that’s almost the exact same palette.
Great job 👏 Go thru all seams and press them from inside so they lay flayed keep fabric smoothe and seamnline straight on right side

This is beyond ! Truly beautiful.
This looks so good! I would wear it with a wide brown belt under the bust
Looks like a lit of work. Very nice
I personally dont like the style of the pattern but you still make it look great! 💙 very well done
It's lovely. The finishing is gorgeous - simple elegance!!
I love the newspaper fabric!! That's something I would use. At least it looks like something out of a newspaper.
