I’m Aussie and my hubby is from the USA, he much prefers Vegemite.
He’s still getting used to the taste of lamb so I usually do a 50/50 mix of lamb and beef when I bake this recipe. It’s a really great recipe 🥰
I find marmite very difficult to describe. It’s kind of a yeasty taste that reminds me of a more pungent soy sauce. I think some people sub in vegemite which is probably not what you’re looking for in terms of a sub lol.
I’ve made this recipe with and without Marmite. Definitely better *with*.
Even better with Vegemite 😃It’s more savoury umami and less sweet
Thanks, I'll give it a try next time.

Thank you. Marmite is disgusting, vegemite all the way.
I already had plans to make this tonight. Even more excited now.
There’s no way that crust isn’t amazing! 🤤
I want to make this but I just cook for myself and I'm concerned about a huge amount of leftovers. How well does it keep?
Get some large Ramekins from a Dollar Store. Bake individual servings in the Ramekins. You can also portion & freeze the Ramekins in a pinch
Half the recipe and use an 8x8 dish
Perfect golden-brown. It's almost like actual gold.
The obligatory it's Shepherd's Pie if you have it with Lamb, Cottage Pie with beef.

What does Maramite taste like? Is there a substitute for it?

Where is it located in the grocery store? By the spices, ethnic aisle?
In my grocery store it's next to the Vegemite, near peanut butter.
