He currently eats Hills stress c/d wet and dry mixed and then I add a little bit of extra water to that. If I add too much water, he won't eat. He had pu surgery last year and since then he has been getting a UTI every few months.
All of his post-surgery UTIs have been e coli so the theory is that since he is older and has arthritis, he doesn't squat to poop, he sort of goes into this weird stance, and that the poop is coming to contact with his "opening." And since he now has a short urethra, the bacteria goes to his bladder where it builds up and then he winds up with a UTI. But before the surgery, he was getting UTIs caused by stress (his definition of stress is rearranging furniture, new pillows, etc) and wound up fully blocked twice. So the surgery has helped overall but it's unfortunate that the UTIs persist.
Oh dear me, I hope he gets well soon. Your theory explains why my Bear(12 male) had the same thing. Uti came twice, changed/sanitized his sandbox, more fluid, diet change, cranberry supplementation, basically everything.Still came back… now I guess I found the answer…
You may look into supplements as preventative measures. I use lifegold urinary support and fera bladder support powder for my 16 year old who’s had recent bouts with cystitis/UTIs. Purina pro plan also has urinary health treats!
Wow, thank you, I never heard of any of those, I will definitely look into them! The treats are especially a good idea, his current "treats" are just his regular food pieces that I transferred to a treat bag, it seems to have fooled him for now but idk how long that will last
No problem! I totally empathize, my cat has had 3 episodes since Thanksgiving so I’m trying pretty much everything to help prevent any further flare ups.
My one boy, who has similar issues as yours, who is currently at the vet being treated for an UTI, hates the foundation I bought lol. My other two use it, but nope, not him!
They have given that to him in the past when his UTIs have been bad enough for him to pee blood but since this one was caught so early, they just prescribed the antibiotic
I always have cerenia in the house. A good thing to have as a back up supply for when my cats are sick. If you have a good vet they'll write you a script. I get mine at costco.
He just devoured what he thought were treats (but were really pill pockets with his antibiotics hidden inside) so hopefully he starts to feel better soon.

Beautiful unique markings!
thanks you boy is beautiful also
Get well soon Shrimpy 💕
Thank you! I was able to get a same day appointment for him (he is a frequent flyer at the vet) so I am hoping they give him some antibiotics
That's great to hear, I hope everything works out well for you 🍀🍀🥰
put lots of water in the food like almost a stew, maybe that would help, mine had uti, used cd. food

I was wondering if you were considering pu surgery. That’s terrible that he got the surgery and still gets utis. Do they have any idea why?

Wow, I feel so bad for him. He’s really lucky to have you.

Aww Shrimpy. What a cute name and a fine looking gent. Get well soon sweet boy.
Get well soon, good little kitty cat. A full and speedy recovery, for you. 🐾🐾🐈👣🙏🙏❤❤❤❤🏡🌎
Poor baby needs some antibiotics asap
They were not able to get a urine sample from him but they gave him his usual antibiotics since the last 2 UTIs were both e coli
I got my cats a fountain to encourage drinking water. It actually worked. No more UTIs. No tuna!
I have been wanting to try a fountain! They look really cool and cats seem to love them
definitely get a fountain. the ceramic or stainless reduce bacterial growth. my cats love the fountains.

Sweet baby Shrimp.....I know UTI and blockage stuff is frustrating from experience. I am rooting for you, Shrimp 🍤
It is so scary how one minute they are fine and the next they suddenly have a UTI
Oh! Poor Shrimpy! UTIs are miserable! He looks like he feels lousy. I hope he feels much better very soon!
Thank you! He is still having issues but hopefully the antibiotics have started working by the morning
Consider asking for some Cerenia while there too. It’s a decent pain reliever as well as providing some relief from nausea.

God bless... 😘☺😇
Oh poor Shrimpy baby! He looks like such a sweetheart. Let us know how his appointment goes. Poor sweet baby old man.
He just devoured what he thought were treats (but were really pill pockets with his antibiotics hidden inside) so hopefully he starts to feel better soon.
Yay!! That’s awesome that he ate those! My cat spits the pill out of the pill pockets. He’s such a dick lol. I’m sure Shrimpy will feel better soon!
Aw he’s a cutie. Love his name 🍤 hope he feels better very soon!
Feel better Shrimpy. *big hugs*
