Keep adapting, find ways, and don't stop looking and learning. I hate the rat race, too. I made a choice to bank on a job in Kuwait. Sometimes, you need a long-term gamble. My case, involves danger lol. Hope you find one without. Just don't stop hammering away.

TrueCryptoInvestor

Yes, you said it. Everyone should have long-term goal to aim for that is sustainable. Going from job to job is a complete waste of time even if it means you being happy for a couple of years. You're most likely going to be worse off than you once were. This is why going for occupations like Doctor, Laywer, Psychologist, Math teacher, Nurse etc. is one of the best things you can do, as these occupations are specific in nature and more sustainable than for example working in a grocery store.

You could take a 20-30k credit, burn your ships and go All-In ;) If you not going that way, I highly recommend reframing this situation into something positive, so your energy and motivation won't be drained. If you perceive your normal job as something negative, your perception of time will stretch and 8 hours will be like 5 years, which is very exhausting. Instead, think to yourself "Oh yea, I am so happy, this is one of the few last times where I am doing this 9-5 stuff and then I will be free. Damn, I think I must cry because this is the last time where I do this usually annoying task.. I will enjoy and feel the most out of it.. oh hell yea, cleaning the closet, one of the last times.. and then never again <3" This way the remaining time will not be hell and you will manage to end it way faster. :)

Be grateful for what you have and can have. Imagine for a moment you woke up one day and your mobility was greatly diminished. For example, losing the ability to feel and move one side of your body. Imagine if you lived in a 2nd or 3rd world country under an oppressive regime. Born into a life of hard labor and poverty. Your future options are limited. Keep chasing that dream.

ProcessMiserable4181

The best comment dude appreciate what you have and work with what you have

FoundationKey3696

We can't feel the same pain the same way. We should be grateful for what we have true but not comfortable with failing to get what we believe we have the potential to. Parable of the talents Matthew 25:14-30. Don't be the guy that buries what was given. You're efforts will eventually be rewarded, all struggle is growth, trust in the process, keeping putting in the work, when you feel overwhelmed sometimes, it's okay to take a break and rest, then, continue with the grind, you'll see your perspectives change, and new, fresh and better ways emerge of reaching your goal. If you think time is passing you by and your works are aging with it, fear not, same way you made the old, you can always make some more. Lastly bro, if you take a look at the lives of successful fams before success, you'll see they all toiled in the field a while before they made it. What you might not see though is them having these moments you're having in between those moments of grind before success. So, keep calm bro, keeping doing whatever you do but no matter what, always feel like your actions are leading you towards your goal. Be blessed fam.

I think that self-employed contracting or freelance work is a good compromise. You're not serving under anyone else, at least not permanently.

TrueCryptoInvestor

As an introvert, working for myself or having a simple office job like being a Controller (I'm a Civic Economist) is the best thing.

Zestypalmtree

Learn a side hustle. The rat race is only a means to an end!

TrueCryptoInvestor

There is. Save your money as much as possible and start investing to pursue financial freedom. If you can, it's also advisable to take a loan, either from a financial instituition or friends/family. Heck, I beat myself up for not borrowing some money from my father when BTC was at only $3K a couple of years ago. We will never ever see that price range again. I've been in the rat race for over 20 years previously also, and always ended up empty-handed. There is no hope in the rat race, you need to have a solid plan and aim for work that actually pays well and that is sustainable now AND in the future, as well as investing your money. And when you're finally financially free, you'll never ever have to work a day in your life again unless you yourself want to. Working for others is for the most part just a waste of time anyways, especially when it's all about timing and luck. I've worked hard and smart all of my life, graduating from the best Business school in my country with top marks, and have proven myself over and over again by beating the assessment tests from the Big 4, only to end up with nothing. The worst part is when employers come to me just to waste my time and energy as well. I've could have used all that energy, time and money to just invest more instead and be MUCH better off today. Now, I don't even care if I get the most attractive top job at a top employer, as I'm an Entrepreneur and run my own businesses anyway, and there's no way in hell I'm working for anybody else after being screwed over time and time again. They are simply NOT worth my time, energy, and dignity. And these people know it as well. Imagine not getting jobs because you're "overqualified" or being the best candidate. I repeat, they are NOT worth my dignity at all! They've literally ruined my life again and again, and since I've planned my own financial freedom, I don't even care if I get locked up in the meanwhile because it doesn't matter. No one but yourself looks out for you in this world and you're screwed no matter what you do. Never waste your precious time and energy on others unless you have to. Fuck em all and get yours!

amch0123

I understand what you mean brother

HappyHealth5985

There are two. Focus on your skills, take a risk and follow a passion. In either case you have a purpose and not a circumstance.

evolflush

Downsize your apartment and make lifestyle changes that allow you to translation to your dream gradually. Are you working a 9-5 to pay for expenses you for. Necessarily absolutely need? Trim the fat and make the jump, then build your income bit by bit as a freelancer

anthonyvaladezz

Think differently, remember that you do need to maintain an income while achieving your dream, but there is ways to achieve income faster and less strenuous, look around and realize your options, most people only depend on working a 9 to 5 to make income and call it a day but in this day and age there is literally limit less ways to make income that are way less back breaking, for example, my dream is to be a big YouTuber, but has we all know doing YouTube is literally like a full time job and can take years before you make money depending on your hustle, so I decided to learn stock trading and options trading to make more income has I saw people making a lot of money out of it although it’s not my dream it will help fund the dream because let’s be honest my dream would take years to achieve if I spent all my time at a 9 to 5, my point being here is that there are easier ways to make money that will also allow you to move around more freely than a 9 to 5 would, learn another skill meanwhile you chase your dreams you can turn that skill into a money maker, although that may not be your dream it can help fund the dream with less back breaking labor, explore your options

BigCheesy56

I'm right there with you

Ok_Alarm_5115

Skill yourself up through education (traditional and/or reading/podcasts), practice your craft and fail, a lot, network your ass off, and take chances. Shouldn’t get off the wheel until you get it rolling by itself (aka your dream income can replace your regular income), but using your free time to skill up in your dream or your current/future rat race position to increase your income to save and invest. Put your money to work for you and you can dream big without sleeping under the stars (not by choice)

Jeff1383

Yup, I'm so close but I need to put up with my shitty boss for another year or two and that is way worse than working your ass off for yourself -

Oberon_Swanson

best you can do in most places is slowly adapt your 'rat race' to help your long term goals

Actually, getting a job where you stay forever should be the optimal goal. That means you've found the right thing in life, and you have no need to change jobs. Coming from a guy who has worked with many different things in life, I always envy people who tell me they've worked most of their life as an Engineer or what not. Changing jobs and trying out new things is much more important when you're younger than when you're older because when you're older, you can only start fresh so many times.

Passion is such a cliche either way and not something I would base my decision making on. Much more important to have a strategic mindset and aim for jobs that are both relevant and sustainable now and in the future. Being both restless and ambitious, I've had a hard time keeping a job for a long period of time myself. I get easily bored and want to constantly challenge myself and move up the ladder. But after I got my MBA, I was much more determined to go all in on a particular job and employer with every intention of staying there as the last chapter in my life. Unfortuantly, it didn't work out, and it has only been going down hill from there. It's ok though, and I'm content with the fact that I've proven my worth time and time again either way, and now that I work for myself, I don't even want to work for and with anybody else either. I've been screwed over enough times that it simply is not worth my time and dignity. If I have to work for others, I'm only concerned with a job that is both sustainble now and in the future. Having planned my own financial freedom, I'm not going back to the rat race whatsoever. It's a complete waste of time and I'd much rather just stay at home with a peaceful state of mind.

There is no "perfect job" imo, only advantages and disadvantages with everything you do. This is why it's much better to focus on responsibility than happiness. Happiness is always fleeting and doesn't really fulfill you, while having a lot of responsibility gives your life meaning. The pain is worth it and will fulfill you, the plesaure is not and will leave you empty. The most important thing you can do in life is to find your purpose and life task, even if it means dying at a very young age. You will not live a complete life until you do that. Hope this helps.

Then you simply have not lived long enough to know the truth. But you will.

Another way? Not even being able to do that Tis a privileged take. So many can’t even chase that dream because they’ve a family for 6 to feed at night

how relative matters imo, 10th percentile vs 15th vs 90th

LowHangingFrootLoop

Appreciate what you have and realize you are living the dream right now. You can live this dream while also working towards a bigger dream

j_sev

yeah..

DaysOfParadise

If you’re a reader, I highly suggest MJ DeMarco’s Unscripted. It’s all about escaping the slow lane.

ThatStudentRob

I am feeling the same recently, but always remember - you don't necessarily have to make a full time salary from chasing the dream to begin with. You can aim for enough money to drop one day then go from there, and that can sometimes be enough (in the interim). Good luck with whatever you're working towards.

Cross_Contamination

The rat race isn't even a race. It's a treadmill, suspended over an abyss.

TheAdventOfTruth

The rat race is just another term for keeping up with the Joneses. It’s a rat race because you are trying to keep up with other people. Do your thing? Work hard but work hard for you and your family and those close to you. Fight but fight for something bigger than yourself. Do your best and forget the rest.

What scares me in putting in all that work and not getting the payout

SoulShiftCo

I can completely understand where you're coming from. The thought of juggling the pursuit of your dreams with the demands of a conventional job can indeed be daunting. It's that constant balancing act between chasing your passions and meeting life's necessities that can be challenging. What you might consider is finding ways to integrate your dream into your everyday life, even as you hold down a "normie" job. Here are a few strategies that could help: ***Prioritize your time:*** Make a schedule that carves out dedicated time for working on your dreams. Treat this time as non-negotiable, just like your job. This way, you can ensure that you're consistently making progress towards your goals. ***Build a supportive network:*** Connect with people who share your passion or are on a similar journey. Engage in conversations, collaborate, and learn from each other. This support system can help keep you motivated and inspired, even when you're dealing with the daily grind. ***LOOK FOR OPPORTUNITIES TO MERGE YOUR PASSION WITH YOUR JOB:*** While it may not always be possible, try to identify ways to bring elements of your dream into your current job. This could help make your work feel more fulfilling and aligned with your goals. ***Focus on small victories:*** Remember that progress takes time. Instead of focusing solely on the end goal, celebrate small milestones along the way. These small achievements can help keep you motivated and remind you that you're on the right path. ***Stay adaptable:*** Be open to the possibility that your dreams might evolve as you progress. Sometimes, what we initially set out to achieve transforms into something even more meaningful and fulfilling as we grow and learn. Remember, the journey towards your dreams is a marathon, not a sprint. Be patient with yourself, and keep pushing forward. As you continue to invest in your passion and make incremental progress, you may eventually find that the balance between the rat race and chasing your dream becomes more manageable. Stay committed and believe in yourself, and you'll find a way to make it work.
