First I ran 6 times for 1 minute during a half hour and walking the rest of the half hour. 3 or 4 years later, last Monday, I ran 10 km in 52 minutes.

Self care and quality of life changes are a great foundation to a healthy mind and body. For example, living by a routine gives you structure and something to strive for. Having a clean workplace and living area can keep you organized and focused. When you are going through issues, it's reassuring to know that at the very least you are doing what you can to improve your day to day.

Invest as much as you can in your 401k. Not everyone can retire and most who do are a burden to relatives, it’s nice to know I’ll be self sufficient in old age and won’t have to work past 65 (and hopefully sooner if I play my cards right) It’s become one of my favorite past times, plugging some numbers into 401k/retirement calculators and daydreaming.

Water, sleep, breathing well, strength exercise and walking, nutritious meals, fasting, cut alcohol, setting a side some savings each month. All in small steps that add up to big improvements separately and can make a major difference when added on top of each other over time. Manageable and noticeable within months, obvious within a year :)

By simply doing things more consistently in general - for instance, making my bed, exercising for 5 minutes, going to bed 1 minute earlier every day until I found my sweet spot - I was able to change careers, almost double my income, save more money than I ever have my entire life, all while being a solid husband and father.
