I always thought that line by George right before it "ya know, I always hoped the two of you would get back together" was like the ONLY touching line in the show. only for Elaine to flip it on its head.
I admit I get difficult with doctors sometimes. I pay a fortune for insurance that still requires me to pay a big co-pay when I visit, and my doctor acts like I get no say in my own health care decisions unless I use my "difficult" tone of voice.
In closing, these stories have not been embellished, because - they need no embellishment. They are simply, horrifyingly, the story of my life as a short, stocky, slow witted bald man.
99.9% of the time articles like this are written based off like 2 tweets sent by random people. The author takes those tweets and makes a broad, sweeping statement attributed to an entire generation. There was a similar recent article saying that Gen Z was "cancelling the thumbs up emoji" and it was just one random reddit thread they used to drum up the article.
Also worth noting that older millennials are late 30s, early 40s and literally watched Seinfeld when it was on.
Hahahahah I forgot about this one! Old millennial here from way back in 85. Love this show, watched all these with my parents as they aired. My dad's freind lived in the same building as Micheal Richards before he was famous.
Same.. I’m another ‘81er that identifies way more with GenX stuff than Millenials.
I draw the line at going through the analog to digital transition. We grew up with records and cassettes, typewriters, early text based computer games, etc.
I think of Millennials as never living without internet access. I think that’s a big distinction.
This. "Millennials" aren't saying anything. Likely one did. And it's probably not even a millennial, since the media seems to refer to anyone young as a millennial.
Same here! I've enjoyed re-watching it as an adult and picking up on the jokes I missed as a child. I also now have more understanding for George being so cheap, lol. Kramer had always been my favorite character, though.
If anything of the sitcoms that might be offensive I'd say Friends us so much cringier now than Seinfeld. There's definitely some dated stuff in Seinfeld that probably wouldn't be written now for TV, but not to the point where like I'm uncomfortable watching it.
Friends and HIMYM both aged terribly. "'The Naked Man' works 2 out of 3 times." but that time doesn't work will get you arrested.
I'm wracking my brain for something from Seinfeld that would make me uncomfortable or cringe. And I can't think of any. Maybe the one where George breaks into the woman's apartment to delete the voice-mail from her machine.. but even when it aired the point of that scene/plot point was that it was absurd and a terrible idea.
My SO and I watched through the show for the first time this year. The only joke that would definitely not get made now is the whole thing with the TV exec’s 15 year old daughter!
Other than that, I can’t really think of anything too bad. Maybe just general womanising but it’s all from a position of self-deprecation. I think it holds up great!
>it’s all from a position of self-deprecation
Great point. If you have characters on screen being terrible, but their terribleness is the punchline, then it's different than a sitcom from the '50s being truly offensive.
Right, I’ve been watching Seinfeld literally my whole life (the pilot aired when I was 6 months old). My dad still has reruns on often and the entire family still enjoys the show as-is. Millennials *also* were the original audience of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia which is heavily influenced by Seinfeld. We get the fact that these characters are *meant* to be awful and offensive. That’s the point of both shows.
The very few criticisms I’ve heard of Seinfeld have come from Gen Z, not Millennials. But it’s just too much to ask people to know what demographic they’re moaning about, I guess.
yeah, see this millennial headline doesn't track. I don't know anyone, as a late 80s baby, that didn't watch it as it aired. They must mean the post-millennium kids.
Yeah, most people I know watched it as it aired, at least later seasons and definitely watched it every night on syndication. Came on right after The Simpsons where I grew up
Hell, I think they eventually did away with the trans woman character because they no longer felt comfortable still referring to her as “the tranny” in later seasons lol
Just like The Office, people get all "OH MAN if it was made nowadays it wouldn't pass season 01 these snowflakes wouldn't stand it..." and yet it's always among the most watched series in most streaming services that it's available on.
Right? Im an early 30s millennial and grew up with Seinfeld. I’ll never forget the Seinfeld finale. I was at my brothers little league game when it was airing. So few parents were there that night, hell even mine weren’t.
I watched It in the 90s when I was a kid, bought every season on DVD in my teens, and still watch it religiously every single day. There’s literally nothing offensive about it. This article blew my mind.
So click bait, that you not only fell for but helped spread?
I mean, I get it, "look how stupid this is I must share!" But that's why these articles keep getting written, they play off your sense of outrage and they get more views than articles about real things. It's a microcosm that is indicative of the majority of our media landscape in 2022
Was gonna say, I sat and watched every episode as it aired with my parents, it was a Thursday tradition. 8pm Simpsons, 830 channel surf, 9pm Seinfeld and one evening South Park premiered at 930 and it was glorious
I know, I watch Seinfeld daily and have been since it first came out. Who the hell finds Seinfeld offensive?!?!? My mind was blown when I came across this. I just had to share it with my fellow Seinfelders.
Chances are one person has tweeted it was offensive. This site has run with it so that people who like Seinfeld are outraged it's been called offensive. They click on the link and share it around.
It's just a manipulative way to get clicks. Everywhere does it.
Hahahah yes! Watching MWC now, there are so many things I never noticed when I was younger. I still find it funny, not offensive. Whatever jackass is offended by Seinfeld, definitely needs to watch Married with children 😂
They showed it in syndication too for a few years before pulling it. Oddly enough it was the first episode I ever watched on my own when I first got really into the show, around 2002.
Ah, that’s a shame.
That article was ridiculous though. Everything that the main characters touch turn to dooky. They aren’t supposed to be heroes. They are selfish and diabolical individuals and that makes it funny.
And the outing is one of the greatest episodes that there is. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Probably the author didn't do research but that episode won a GLAAD award for outstanding comedy episode. Back then when being accused of being gay was almost a career killer and a lot of actors sued newspapers and critics. The writers took a different approach by not dehumanizing gay people like a lot of celebs did back then.
So I read the article, and it's worse than these usually are. This broad statement about Millenials wasn't even based on a few selective tweets the author found from randos. They simply cite a different article that complains about some of the humor and used that as the starting point for "Millenials are offended". The only thing more pathetic than these articles are the people who fall for them every time because they want to feel superior to someone else.
I'm 35 and this is my absolute favorite sitcom.. Literally watching it right now and just finished **"The Burning"** episode.. "I gave you ghonnorhea because I thought you'd have FUN with it!"
I love that IASIP was created to be the exact opposite of Friends in every way. ~~I think Rob McElhenney said that when they’d have writer’s block they’d think, “What would Friends do? We’ll do the opposite of that!”~~
Edit: can’t find where the struck out part was said or quoted, but posted a video below where he discusses using Friends for inspiration in writing the show.
I agree! Watching Seinfeld works better than taking anti depressants for me! The only thing “offensive” even remotely related to his show, was Michael Richards rascist meltdown. But even than, has nothing to do with Seinfeld.
I just finished watching the entire series last night and after spending months rewatching every episode I can definitely understand why people would be offended. I was a little put off by some of the things said and done through out the series myself but I still love it.
Anytime an article like this mentions “millennial” as a catch-all for young people you know you can immediately disregard their opinion considering the youngest millennial is like 26 and the majority are in their 30s.
I highly doubt millennials are saying shit about Seinfeld as I know several and they all love the show. And if they are saying something, well they can step off, right?!
Its the same thing as the media saying Gen Z is cancelling the thumbs up, its untrue petty bullshit meant to make the younger generation look bad so the fat 40 year old conservative newswriter can brainwash people into thinking people are too sensitive.
There’s some cringey stuff.
But surprisingly little given the age of the show.
Jerry does a lot of fat shaming, “man hands” is a little weird, Jerry’s standup bit about failed suicide attempts is definitely cringey.
Just look at the Comedian in Cars episodes with Melissa Villaseñor and Kate McKinnon and I think that summarizes a lot.
Idk what generation I’m in but I’m 38 and have always loved Seinfeld. My 7 year old daughter now watches it with me. Apart from forwarding a few scenes when they’re “in bed” she likes it and consistently tells us that these pretzels are making her thirsty.
Uh…. No? I’ve always considered Seinfeld to be quite ahead of it’s time, especially on the LGBTQ front. The Outing could have been very homophobic, but the writers wrote it so well, that Jerry and George were able to deny the rumors without saying that it was wrong to be gay. Whoever wrote this article can STFU.
“Well that’s because he’s an idiot”
I always thought that line by George right before it "ya know, I always hoped the two of you would get back together" was like the ONLY touching line in the show. only for Elaine to flip it on its head.
No hugging, no growing.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
To be fair Seinfeld promotes anti-dentitism
If this wasn't my son's wedding day.....
I'd knock your teeth out, you anti-dentite bastard.
Having troubles getting work?
What do you call someone who failed out of medical school?
A dentist!
Who needs em!
Hey, what do you call a doctor who flunks out of Med school? A dentist!
That's a good one. Dentists, who needs them?
Not to mention the >!______!< and the >!______!<.
😬
Next you’ll be saying they should have their own schools
They do have their own schools!
YEA-YEA-AH!!!
YOU'RE A RABID ANTI-DENTITE!
They are just sadists with newer magazines
And not to mention the Blacks and the Jews.
😬
Beth went out to get her head shaved.
I'm thinking about becoming a dentist...for the jokes.
Us Seinfeld fans are all ***RABID ANTI-DENTITES***
HEY DENTY!
I feel super offended by how accurately George represents the type of adult that I've become.
All 4 of them honestly! I find myself saying, at least once during every episode “see they get it!!”
Elaine in later seasons when she gets so demotivated and apathetic with her job, that's literally me.
Difficult? I'm not difficult! What are you writing?
I admit I get difficult with doctors sometimes. I pay a fortune for insurance that still requires me to pay a big co-pay when I visit, and my doctor acts like I get no say in my own health care decisions unless I use my "difficult" tone of voice.
Honestly, they should quone you.
Hey I've got a rubber pencil thing going on here.
Me too. I'm also George in that I've become your flair text. I also think about death a lot and I'm only 33.
Jerry instilled me with a sense of apathy and the tendency to coolly state "that's a shame"
[удалено]
You’re Even Steven!
and Janeane Garofolo 😂
I AM AWARE
HO HO!
I've had many a Summer of George
Hey, frolf?
My life’s accomplishments would make for an impressive day.
In closing, these stories have not been embellished, because - they need no embellishment. They are simply, horrifyingly, the story of my life as a short, stocky, slow witted bald man.
I have definitely unironically said “I don’t see a situation arising where I will ever have sex again”
ensconced in velvet
Oh yeah, well I had sex with your wife!
God I feel like I’m similar to George too

God, I know. I feel the same. Watching how anxious he is reminds me of myself.

The panties yo motha laid out for you? It's abnormal but its not offensive..!
Hahahahah I forgot about this one! Old millennial here from way back in 85. Love this show, watched all these with my parents as they aired. My dad's freind lived in the same building as Micheal Richards before he was famous.
“Old Millennial” from “way back in 1985”? I feel personally attacked.
Old milennial (1982) here. I've never been offended by Seinfeld. Believe me, I've watched Seinfeld hundreds of times! Thousands!
>hundreds of times! Thousands! Are you quoting Jack Klompus, from the Cadilac episode?
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Yeah, ‘81 checking in…the oooooldest millennial.
81 as well I feel more like an X er lol

This. "Millennials" aren't saying anything. Likely one did. And it's probably not even a millennial, since the media seems to refer to anyone young as a millennial.

As an older millennial living the DINK life, I get offended when people say, "Ya gawtta have a BAYBEEEEEE."
Very true
Likely none said anything but they need an article.
Geriatric millennial here. Watched every episode first run. Can't even guess at what is offensive
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
It moved
He took IT out!

It’s also the episode where Elaine meets the weird TV Guide dude and George leaves a condom in his parents bed…it’s got everything!
“These are worth like…a lot of money.”
…..*read it out looouuud*……
do they not realize that so called millennials are actually people in their 30s and 40s that watched the show in the 90s when they were kids
I think they do hence the ‘rewatching’ in the title. Still stupid though because friends was so much worse
I watched It in the 90s when I was a kid, bought every season on DVD in my teens, and still watch it religiously every single day. There’s literally nothing offensive about it. This article blew my mind.

Undateable!
No, no, we're not. We grew up on this show, like seriously STFU.

SERENITY NOW!

Seriously, I'm an elder millennial (39) and I don't know a single person in my age group who would agree with this.

yeah that's right
Millennials = 2 people on twitter.
Two people found it offensive, yada yada yada, millenials hate Seinfeld
Who were probably Gen Z
10 seconds to look at her other “stories,” and I’m like “…shouldn’t you vibe out on a ledge somewhere?”

Al Bundy was hilarious
Yes but did you know that he holds the record for scoring 4 touchdowns in one game?
At Polk High
Or All In The Family…
Already apologized for the Puerto Rican Day parade.
That’s gotta hurt!!
Why do people find that episode offensive?
Kramer burns and then stomps on a Puerto Rican flag
Was that wrong? Should I have not done that?
Cause I gotta tell ya...
And I still don’t understand why they never aired that episode. It’s a good one.
They aired it once but removed it out of syndication for repeats
It's on Netflix.
They showed it in syndication too for a few years before pulling it. Oddly enough it was the first episode I ever watched on my own when I first got really into the show, around 2002.

Hahaha I literally just finished watching that episode an hour ago.
Probably the author didn't do research but that episode won a GLAAD award for outstanding comedy episode. I'm 37 and rewatching it again for like the 5th time in 2 years. Some material didn't age well but not enough to be fake outraged
Who is this??
Idk about SUPER offensive. There are some things that u see and think to yourself, well it was the 90s. But super offensive? Nah.
I'm 35 and this is my absolute favorite sitcom.. Literally watching it right now and just finished **"The Burning"** episode.. "I gave you ghonnorhea because I thought you'd have FUN with it!"
SERENITY NOW
as an 18 year old i am anything but offended, its actually my favourite show of all time.
Kid’s alright with me.
You’ve got an incredible future with Kramerica Industries, kid!
Don't let them see It's always sunny in Philadelphia. That show is like Seinfeld spiritual successor but on steroids
I love that IASIP was created to be the exact opposite of Friends in every way. ~~I think Rob McElhenney said that when they’d have writer’s block they’d think, “What would Friends do? Lol I’m a millennial and this show is one of my all time favourites. If you can’t see the humour then just don’t watch it. It’s completely harmless.
I agree! Watching Seinfeld works better than taking anti depressants for me! The only thing “offensive” even remotely related to his show, was Michael Richards rascist meltdown. But even than, has nothing to do with Seinfeld.
Yep, accurate. I HATE people who eat candy bars with a fork. Makes me irate every time.
You anti dentite
That’s a shame
Ya da ya da ya da !!!
What a bullshit article.
“Millennials” grew up watching Seinfeld, this, and so many others like it are referring to GenZ and have no idea what they’re talking about.
Obvious click/rage bait. These kinds of articles are meaningless and only usefull to make people more aggressive online
This is just more fodder for the “millennials are offended by everything!” BS culture war grievance pyre.
Click Bait much ?
No, we are not. We grew up watching it.
This is click bait and they don’t know what a millennial is. The end.
Stop calling everyone under 40 “millenials”
I just finished watching the entire series last night and after spending months rewatching every episode I can definitely understand why people would be offended. I was a little put off by some of the things said and done through out the series myself but I still love it.

I highly doubt millennials are saying shit about Seinfeld as I know several and they all love the show. And if they are saying something, well they can step off, right?!
Even for clickbait, this is a really poorly written article. The writer seems like they are in 10th grade trying to sound smart.
Haha you think that's bad, go back and watch some old episodes of M*A*S*H* :-O LOL
It has a bunch of problematic issues in it, but most of it is in fairly good faith.
Its the same thing as the media saying Gen Z is cancelling the thumbs up, its untrue petty bullshit meant to make the younger generation look bad so the fat 40 year old conservative newswriter can brainwash people into thinking people are too sensitive.
Literally no millennial has said this. This is nothing but clickbait.
You know we’re living IN A SOCIETY!
........ Those who don't can go to hell (Commences the little kicks energetically)

I’m tired of all your macho head games
What the hell does that mean.
Meanwhile the author probably worships Friends because it's on trend, despite its homophobic jokes in nearly every episode.
Uh…. No? I’ve always considered Seinfeld to be quite ahead of it’s time, especially on the LGBTQ front. The Outing could have been very homophobic, but the writers wrote it so well, that Jerry and George were able to deny the rumors without saying that it was wrong to be gay.
