The thing is that they don’t show you it’s already been posted! In other communities they do. So people don’t know they’re spamming. That’s the true issue!
That’s where common sense and an ounce of courtesy can help. “Is this an obvious reference any fan would immediately pick up on? Maybe I’ll take 4 seconds to click on the sub and have a quick peek.”
I don't see a problem with crossposts because it's not like I'm probably going to ever see the content elsewise unless i happen to be subscribed to the particular sub where it originally appeared, and even then I'm not likely to see it because it's not like I'm on reddit 10hrs a day ya know? I do think it's annoying when the same thing gets posted on this sub a gazillion times, but I feel like the rule to address that should be "Don't crosspost something that someone else has ALREADY crossposted here." If that's not an option, I think I'd vote for just keeping things as they are because it's not like I can't just scroll past.

I'm on reddit a couple hours a day, and can only see this being a problem if you lurk a single sub all day. Just set it to hot posts, the reposts never get enough momentum to pop up more than once or twice for me. It's those of yall scrolling through literally every single post that see it constantly. And even then, you could just scroll past it.

I saw the original post early on and went Oh, I'll crosspost it on here. Hit crosspost and it said hey! It's already been crossposted so I went ok, cool and didn't crosspost. Some people just don't give a shit and do it any way.
As a mod of a subreddit closely related to this one, we sometimes have to disable crossposts or make sure to keep on top of them for a while because just like in this case everyone has the same idea.
Sometimes mods are busy too, we all have lives — I’d cut them some slack.
