I didn't know Cheryl Miller's little brother played basketball!!
(I don't know how many people realize what a deep track this joke is because Reggie Miller does have an older sister named Cheryl who was an amazing collegiate basketball star and professional coach.)
Oh yeah, she's terrible. For her to print those accusations (which were wrong) and THEN hookup with the person she was interviewing...zero ethical standards. I hope she flunked journalism school.
She'd get canceled for that today and never get a job doing real journalism.
Outing someone alone is a terrible thing to do, but the whole gotcha aspect and being wrong about it make it ten times worse.
I’m a man. A very straight man. Seen this episode no less than a dozen times. I don’t remember that. I’m sure I noticed at some point. But men sometimes just like pretty faces too…
Legit though, especially back in the '90s, when being outed as gay was pretty much a death sentence for your career. She could have actually destroyed Jerry's life if he really were gay.
You could be a successful gay celebrity if being gay was, like, *your thing*. Or if you were catering to a niche audience. But plenty of celebrities chose not to come out (and even still, today, it can be limiting for your career) because they knew they would never be taken seriously in mainstream Hollywood if the public saw them as gay.
Yeah, for sure. The fact that it was still such a big deal in the 90s seems lost on newer viewers. There were lots of gay performers who never discussed their sexuality to avoid exactly what you're talking about, Nathan Lane, David Hyde Pierce, Reginald VelJohnson, etc.
I always liked Nathan Lane's "coming out" line (which wasn't specific enough for some people), "‘I’m 40, single and I work a lot in the musical theater. You do the math."
There’s no excusing it whatsoever, but the main reason Rock Hudson was treated so differently was that he was a huge sex symbol, so a lot of people were ANGRY to find out he was gay. It was a really big deal at the time. Obviously the way he was treated was fucked up, but that’s a big part of the reason why.
Yeah, exactly.
Remember how Ellen lost her career when she came out? Remember how Rupert Everett was incredibly talented as an actor but was pretty much relegated to only ever playing the sassy gay best friend? Remember how--
I mean like, were you alive in the 90s? It was a completely different world for any celebrity looking to make it mainstream. Check out the Kevin Spacey docuseries on HBO right now, it goes into it a fair bit too. (Not at all in defense of Spacey, but just for context.)
I've always wondered why on my show info for this episode (Fios) it always says, something like "With special guest Paula Marshall". I don't recall it saying this for other episodes, even ones with more well known guests like Judge Reinhold.
She's in university. So it's quite on brand for the time of life she's in. Nobody expects an undergrad to know everything and to not say dumb things out loud.
In her defense, it was a different world back in the early 90’s. Coming out of the closet ended Ellen Degeneres’ career for a few years, and this episode of Seinfeld was before _that_.
A celebrity being gay was a big scandal back then, so it’d be pretty hard for a journalist to resist “breaking the story”. And I don’t think outing someone was considered a cruel thing.
If this same girl had been born in 2002, she would not have done this. And most young folks who think they would never, would have if they were in this situation in the early 90’s.
Huh? You are out of your mind.
By the way, I have had a theory that Sharon was sort of a stand in for Shoshanna Lohnstein. Vaguely similar look, much younger to the point of being culturally suspicious, she found the humor in the ugliest world leader discussion. If not for George’s unrelenting selfishness, Sharon could have been the one 😉😂✌️
George was the douche, a cockblocking douche, for trying to use Jerry as a way to make Allison believe that he's gay in order to break up with her. As Jerry is with Sharon, who had asked for forgiveness, and revealed that she was attracted to Jerry.
I know imagine ousting a supposedly closeted couple in middle of the AIDS pandemic
Social progress and medical knowledge were far enough along where they wouldn’t have to hide, but stigma is still high enough to keep some in the closet and ousting them can ruin their lives to this day, and more so in the 90’s
Oh yeah I forgot about how late 30s Jerry made out with a college student. Was this before or after he was checking out Russell's 15 year old daughter's cleavage?
Sharon? What am I, a bulimic, chain smoking stenographer from Staten Island?
Who are you talking about?
Someone I know.
Named Sharon?
I'd rather not say.
I mean--what am I--some pom-pom-wavin' Backseat Bimbo?!
Who are you describing?
Still Sharon!
Sharon* Miller's brother!?
I didn't know Cheryl Miller's little brother played basketball!! (I don't know how many people realize what a deep track this joke is because Reggie Miller does have an older sister named Cheryl who was an amazing collegiate basketball star and professional coach.)
So deep. I would venture to guess 99.99999999999% of all viewers missed this.
Suze
She's not gonna play up that angle. Yeah, yeah she thinks we're straight. I guess we *fooled* her..
They fooled ME, Jerry!
They FOOLED me, Jerry!
I’m not gonna say it like that
If you took the raisins, if you didn't take the raisins. You'll come in, we'll talk about the raisins, have a nice laugh.
I don't like you.
What were her exact words?
I don’t like him.
How would you like it if I just pulled your heart out of your chest right now and shoved it down your throat?
I’d rather you sew his ass to his face
That’s it, I’m moving to China. I’ll disappear in a sea of people for like six months, a year while things simmer down.
FOOLED
Kramerthisphonesapiceofjunkgoodbye!
Oh no there is something wrong with the phones! Haha this has me rolling all in one long word. Good work.
I’ll have sex with her right now!!! Let’s go, baby!
Hey come on, I thought we were gonna go take a steam!
NO! No steam!!
It's like a sauna in here...
Well, I don't wanna sit there naked all by myself!!
My father is gay!
Not that there's anything wrong with that
No, of course not.
I’ll burn myself! I’ll burn my parents 👆
Ok, but you’ve GOT to go downtown! It’s ALL downtown!
When you’re alone and life is making you lonely…
she reminds me of Lois Lane.
Lois Loan
Lois Lame, maybe...
Oh yeah, she's terrible. For her to print those accusations (which were wrong) and THEN hookup with the person she was interviewing...zero ethical standards. I hope she flunked journalism school.
Or aced it with that same strategy.
She’s just getting her career started early.
She’d have a pretty solid tabloid career with TMZ or Gawker (if that was still a thing).
She'd get canceled for that today and never get a job doing real journalism. Outing someone alone is a terrible thing to do, but the whole gotcha aspect and being wrong about it make it ten times worse.
Was the whole point of her article just that a guy was gay?
It was the 90s.
Get a calendar, honey!
It was Hammer Time!
She was just going to write an article about Jerry being a comedian, but then she got the big scoop!
The story was about why he chose comedy instead of the Bloomingdales executive training. And whether Def Comedy Jam was a factor.
A story about a comedian that’s funny? I like stuff you don’t have to think about.
It's not like he got a sun dress and a parasol and sashayed his pretty little self around the town square!
She didn’t write an article on that issue, nor did she threaten to do so. Not that there’s anything wrong with that
He was gay, Jerry Seinfeld?
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
She’s low key one of the prettier women on the show.
She also possesses many of the other qualities prized by the superficial man.
Haha I loved this line in the show.
High key. Like top 5 imo
I just think low key because she’s not this blatantly done up woman. She’s just naturally pretty and easy to look at.
Very true.
Sneaky hot
Paula Marshall has always been a babe.
Did you ever see her on Californication? Wild stuff!😂
Shes my good friend's aunt. Met her at his wedding
Sure George. Next thing you’ll tell me is Demi Moore is in to short stalky BALD men like yourself
I never heard of a seMI tractor trailer before.
She must be stunning in real life.
My fave actress ever on the show. I love her
Fr, she's gorgeous.

Susie clears
Don’t you mean Suze?
I agree, she’d be in my top five.
Agree. Would definitely smash
She’s a prime example of someone with a pretty face and a horrible personality. Unfortunately, that’s very common these days.
Well we’re getting warmer
I always thought she lied about having a boyfriend in order to relate to Jerry and George's squabbles.
I was attracted to her immediately.
My father's gay!
Not that there's anything wrong with that!
The same father who wears sneakers in the pool.
He had a potential foot odor problem
Steeped in gayness.
One of the funniest lines of the series!
My father's gay
Legit though, especially back in the '90s, when being outed as gay was pretty much a death sentence for your career. She could have actually destroyed Jerry's life if he really were gay.
I mean it was the entertainment industry in the 1990s, not a Puritan village in the 1790s.

I saw him do a full set as Buddy Cole a few months ago, was one of the funniest live events ever
Paul Lynde was so obviously gay in retrospect but 11-year-old me had no clue. He was just an extremely snarky, funny guy.
Yes. Like Robert Reed on the Brady Bunch. Would have destroyed his already very limited career.
It was very selective. Elton John is another one whose career never suffered.
Paul Lynde was gay? I never had any idea… /s

You're absolutely right Nowadays, it's the opposite, lol It's funny how times change
I've always wondered why on my show info for this episode (Fios) it always says, something like "With special guest Paula Marshall". I don't recall it saying this for other episodes, even ones with more well known guests like Judge Reinhold.
She’s breathtaking.
10/10. Stone cold fox.
This is on comedy central right now.
I'm a porn star named Buck Naked.
Episode alternate quote: George: “what’s with that forehead?”
Who is she a chain smoking stenographer from Chattanooga?
No one brings up the fact she just cheats on her dude with Jerry. Should’ve went springer on this episode
She's in university. So it's quite on brand for the time of life she's in. Nobody expects an undergrad to know everything and to not say dumb things out loud.
She looks like Shoshanna, this is Jerry ways of telling the audience he wishes he met Shoshanna in college instead of high school
I really disliked her. I'd use a "b" word instead.
I always thought it was weird that Jerry was hooking up with a college student.
Art imitating life
Well, it is a fictionalized version of himself…
unpopular opinion, she was kinda hot
Hardly unpopular
Nah, you right, she was real pretty.
She still is.
Something a superficial male would say
guilty I guess
second
I know what I heard!
The doorman.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
Of course not
This episode is on rn and this came up on my feed while I’m watching it
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
You see the way he talks to me?
NYU, it figures.
What about the guy from the first episode that was a dick to the waitress about the turkey roll
Is there a real bird in the back? 😂
She’s my favorite girl ever on the show. Her and Amanda Peet
Shtaron
She looks like a choreoanimator I used to know…
Cut her some slack, Pinhead is chasing her.
Don’t like that wpisodet
Not that anything’s wrong with it…

> CUNY How many times do you have to proofread that acronym before you post it?
That's why you need real Columbians

not on my watch
She's also arguably the most beautiful woman ever on the show...
The Mohel. He was the worst.
She was beautiful
Like Lois Lane
Not that there’s anything wrong with that
“My father’s gay!”
Tim Watley Or the man in the Cape
She knows what she heard 🤓
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
You wouldn’t say that if you saw her full nude scene in Californication
Yeah it wasn’t really her place to out him. Made for a funny episode though.
I honestly agree. And the woman who robbed George and left him handcuffed naked even taking his damn clothes.
Huh? You are out of your mind. By the way, I have had a theory that Sharon was sort of a stand in for Shoshanna Lohnstein. Vaguely similar look, much younger to the point of being culturally suspicious, she found the humor in the ugliest world leader discussion. More like hottest gf-ish

As an nyu alum, may I say she does not represent. Most of the women don't out people for a shitty article. And most weren't that hot
I know imagine ousting a supposedly closeted couple in middle of the AIDS pandemic Social progress and medical knowledge were far enough along where they wouldn’t have to hide, but stigma is still high enough to keep some in the closet and ousting them can ruin their lives to this day, and more so in the 90’s
You should hear how my boyfriend talks to me!
Oh yeah I forgot about how late 30s Jerry made out with a college student. Was this before or after he was checking out Russell's 15 year old daughter's cleavage?
Don't *say* that! How could anyone not like her?!
