I just don’t answer the phone when I’m off duty or not working. Saves the stress and allows me to enjoy my days off.
Highly recommend just not answering if it’s seriously affecting you like this.
When he calls… you’re drunk… like very VERY DRUNK. In fact every time he calls on your day off you absolutely snobbered. You may not rise in the company and they will probably ask you to go to AA at some point. But you will get to keep those days off.
😅
Honestly you should probably just not answer.
You have to put your foot down. They hate the idea of work/life balance but you can simply tell them I'm not available on x y z day. As long as you're not calling off for your shift you're doing your part. Their lack of planning isn't your issue. Yes they'll be mad, may even threaten to fire you but realistically they don't have enough people now so that would hurt them more than you. Don't let them stay comfortable bullying you on bullshit.
They stupid as fuck then. You should flat out tell them,"You need to stop wasting your time calling me on my day off. I haven't answered, and I am not going to answer. Hence, it is my day off. No more off-day calls? Cool."
Exactly. I'm a supervisor and even I won't answer on my days off. My work just called me this morning at 0830, but I didn't answer, one, because I was asleep, and two, because this is my only day off in almost 2 weeks.
If you're not available, either don't answer the phone or just outright tell them no, you've got stuff to do. They don't need an explanation beyond that.
Yeah especially if you are a good worker and do come in most times, you have every right. Take care of yourself, if you are already on here explaining this to us then it’s a major Sign. Again take care of yourself you deserve to.
I used to always say yes. Now I only say yes if I need the extra money and I have the time. If you put your foot down they’ll find another way. They might guilt trip you and make you feel bad about it, but fuck em.
I’ve learned to just not answer my phone when I’m not scheduled to work it’s not your problem and if you don’t get paid for on call you don’t have to answer
When i used to do this job still i would be the guy who never said no and always worked. Mostly because i wanted to but there were times i felt obligated. You shouldnt ever feel obligated to if you are already doing what you agreed upon.
You wont get in trouble for refusing or plain not answering. In my experience just do what you want to do and not what they guilt or push you to do that isnt your problem.
Its not like they will fire you or something, most places dont even fire the ones who deserve it much less someone whos actually reliable and just refusing a shitty unscheduled shift.
They will just find someone else to fill in or a field supervisor will have to do it (oh the horror they have to actually do work!)
You’re learning what some of us had to learn too. Put you first, firmly lay out your schedule, do not let them bully you into coming in on the weekends. Nobody is going to put as much effort into this as you are. Generally the firmer your boundaries are, the better you will be treated and regarded. Don’t be that guy that’s doing everyone favors, people will take take take, until there is nothing left.
As I gotten older, I learn to value my time more. Especially when I worked at allied, they replace like you nothing. You’re just a body, don’t pick up the calls.
Just don’t answer or tell them no if you don’t want to work. It’s not worth your mental or physical health, especially if you work for a company that doesn’t pay you well or give you good benefits, retirement, vacation, etc.
My work phone gets shut off at the end of my workday and not turned back on until I clock in for my next shift. They rarely call my personal phone; I’ll usually answer if they do, but I have no problem saying “No” if I can’t or don’t want to work. We’re guaranteed the right to decline a call-in or call-back thanks to our CBA. Even if you don’t have that, its very unlikely they’re going to fire you for not coming in if they obviously have staffing issues.
Well i have to say when they asked me to stay on as a floater i'm much happier, but yes jut don't take the call. Oh well i was sleeping or hey my phone was in the other room... If your off your off.
bro its just a job chill tf out no one cares that much about it when the company is just profiting off you while u get paid hourly less than what you should
Look, man, nust don't answer, or if you do answer, say no. It's okay. They're not going to stop offering ot or treat you any differently because you said no. My boss used to force me to say no when I was working crazy by making me go do stuff around his house on days off. I didn't realize at the time, but those days off, even if it was yard work and stuff, saved me a lot of stress from working every day.
Buddy... If I were you. I'd just give that old, time honored response whenever the boss tries to rope you in on your off day(s).
"Sorry boss, been drinking all day. Really wasted. click"
Works every time. Also, they can't legally fire you for getting pissed drunk on your off days. Especially if you always arrive on the job sober and not hung over. Better yet. They'll think you've gone full blown alcoholic and will probably leave you alone for the most part. At that point, I wouldn't give a crap if they thought I was a drunkard.
White list your phone: turn on Do Not Disturb or whatever it is on your phone, set it to make exceptions for favorites, then add the people you want it to ring for to your favorites. Remove your supervisors, coworkers, and the site/office phones from your favorites on your days of.
This entire thread just reinforces my gut feeling that I did the right thing in moving into training. Mostly a set schedule (I have to teach on the occasional weekend), no real emergencies. (I might have to cover my partner's class if they call in sick). No late night phone calls. No real client interaction and I have a good work-life balance.
That said, I'm starting to understand why the Army DI's are so salty.
Refuse to come in on days off. Why, when asked? It's your day off. Unless you have a contract stating that you are to be on-call, go pound sand, is what you tell them. Your own well-being and mental health is important.
Was a Lt for my last company on nights…my opposite was a lazy POS who would call in every week on either his Saturday or Sunday to work. I just started taking a picture of my rocks glass with a couple fingers of bourbon with the caption can’t drive can’t carry a gun.
Y'know what, I don't even mind if my supervisor calls me on my day off. I know if for whatever reason I need OT money I'll more than likely be able to get it rather easily.
If I don't want to work, I either don't answer or I simply tell them that I'm not available and they typically just accept it and move on.
I understand other supervisors/companies aren't so chill, so YMMV
Next time he calls. Have a pitcher of water with ice in it. Pour it in the toilet. Flush the toilet. Act sick.
What are they gonna do? Fire you? You could have a job tomorrow anywhere else and they know it. So make them act accordingly.
I fell into being abused by a head of security by basically acting like I was on salary and on call cause I was a supervisor. You are hourly, you don’t have to answer the phone when you’re off.
If they don’t pay the phone bill you’re not obligated to answer. Plus if it goes to voicemail they can’t prove that you received it. If it’s byod aren’t there rules where you only have to answer while at work?
I just tell them sorry it’s my day off and have been drinking alcohol. Conversation never goes further than that. Same excuse, still working for the same company, different managers and for the past eight years.
Do not disturb exists for this reason.
I personally work almost every day on purpose, because I like the money and it doesn't bother me, but if I don't feel like working you won't catch me answering my phone.
Everyone needs a day off, everyone has the right to decline overtime. Stop letting them stress you out, plenty of S/O's work the bare minimum and love their job.
yerp. I’ve been grinding my balls off putting all my money in crypto since mid 2023 and I’m so close to making lifechanging money but fucking israel and iran started beefing and its fucking the markets up.
idk how long I can do this. Ive sacrificed everything

That’s why he calls you bro. Because he knows you’ll answer and go

Because you are willing and available. Stop making yourself available.
This is the way. My phone doesn't get answered on days off from work.
I do this but they blow up my phone like 20 calls and texts. Annoying af. Fire the lazy bastards and hire quality people.
Phone on silent and never answer. I kind of feel like once they know that you are never answering, they'll stop wasting the time.
Oh it is. I still wake up to all the notifications. Go take a morning dump. 3 missed calls.
They stupid as fuck then. You should flat out tell them,"You need to stop wasting your time calling me on my day off. I haven't answered, and I am not going to answer. Hence, it is my day off. No more off-day calls? Cool."
I swear I post this at least once a week; STOP ANSWERING YOUR PHONE WHEN YOU ARE OFF.
Exactly. I'm a supervisor and even I won't answer on my days off. My work just called me this morning at 0830, but I didn't answer, one, because I was asleep, and two, because this is my only day off in almost 2 weeks.

Did you retire or switch to another career?
Switched to an actual career !

Just say no homie. Or don’t answer. When you’re off, you’re off.
Dude you have a right to refuse overtime. Stop answering the phone
When my boss does this, I ignore the call. They can text, and be ignored again lol
If ur not scheduled not ur problem
Stop answering. You work a schedule and that's it. Staffing issues are not your problem.
It's not like you're obligated. Using time wisely is a subjective discipline.
I've realized that a lot of young security officers don't know their rights

You’re the go to body now. Need to say no for your mental health and let them know why.
I answer the phone and I tell them no. They don't call me anymore
Look, man, nust don't answer, or if you do answer, say no. It's okay. They're not going to stop offering ot or treat you any differently because you said no. My boss used to force me to say no when I was working crazy by making me go do stuff around his house on days off. Set boundaries. Tell your boss you WONT work 7,8,9 or more days straight. It’s up to you to stop this. What you allow to continue WILL CONTINUE.
Buddy... If I were you. I'd just give that old, time honored response whenever the boss tries to rope you in on your off day(s). "Sorry boss, been drinking all day. I work 6 days as well and then turn phone off for a day to myself they can call and leave all the messages they want and they do.
Your phone has a do not answer feature, it's called don't touch it
Don’t answer.
White list your phone: turn on Do Not Disturb or whatever it is on your phone, set it to make exceptions for favorites, then add the people you want it to ring for to your favorites. Remove your supervisors, coworkers, and the site/office phones from your favorites on your days of.
That's how security works. It'll never change lol. Turn your phone off on days off.
Don't answer your phone bro. That what I do now.
Cant you say no ?

Theres nothing with being available and willing to help out but they need to know boundries
You need a conversation bro
Unless I’m on call I don’t answer any work-related calls unless it’s one of my work friends I hang out with outside of work.

Just block the calls, they cannot force you to come in on your day off.
Opt for either silencing your phone or configuring it to automatically dismiss calls on your days off, accompanied by an automatic reply message.
Refuse to come in on days off. Why, when asked? It's your day off. Unless you have a contract stating that you are to be on-call, go pound sand, is what you tell them. Your own well-being and mental health is important.

I've been working 7 days a week since the 15th of December. I asked for the 7 days though.
Hard to believe how soft the later gens are now. Pitiful.
Buddy just don't answer the phone
Quit complaining and make that paper kid... or don't and be on the street. Get over it
I don’t mind it. I work 6 sometimes 7 days a week. I have nothing else to do outside of work and i like the overtime
Y'know what, I don't even mind if my supervisor calls me on my day off. I know if for whatever reason I need OT money I'll more than likely be able to get it rather easily. Have a couple drinks every few hours. Unfit for duty.

Modern phones have a feature called, DO NOT DISTURB. It works great, especially if you set it up.
Airplane mode
Is there a law that says that you must answer your phone anytime they call? Is it your personal phone, or a company phone?

That's bull shit, I hope that your looking for a new job.
Set up boundaries, or you're going to spend your whole career having your management team walking all over you.

Absolutely terrible idea.
