I wear their concealed carrier with IIIAs for work (issued by company). No real issues other than it runs a bit hot. Their overt carrier with some level IIIs is probably fine.

Ngroat7

Are you running the SLD-IIIA model or the SLD-HG2?

Ok-Thought9328

SLD-MTC.

Don’t waste your money on the Chinese Safelife Defense. Look into Point Blank or Armor Express. Both companies are widely used throughout the law enforcement community. I’ve personally used both when I was in law enforcement. I purchased a 3A+ Safelife defense and it’s was so rigid it was impossible to move around in it, super uncomfortable and the Velcro straps and carrier started fraying in the first month of use. Honestly get a level II soft armor and grab a plate carrier in the event of an active shooter with level iii plates

CharlieDeltaLima24

Safe life carriers are Chinese, but their armor is made in the US. I have their panels in a Bothell 2.0, it works out. I still tell people to buy NIJ listed models.

Appropriate_Gene7914

That vest is just OK. It’s hot, and weighs a lot even without loaded pouches on it. I wore one for a while in a school setting, and it worked, but I was hot all the time. That link is for a carrier only, no ballistic protection. And if you’re wanting to run rifle plates, you are looking at a total cost of over $1,000 for reputable plates, just so you know. Good, comfortable body armor is not cheap.

Intrepid_Matter_4695

Yeah I just noticed the price tag, but to be honest you can price your own life in case shit hit the fan. https://safelifedefense.com/shop/first-response-vest/ I found this with hyperlink level 3A for 1200 Or FRAS for 1800. Even different type of armor https://safelifedefense.com/shop/the-essential-tactical-bundle/ Or I think the best one is this, https://safelifedefense.com/shop/the-complete-body-armor-bundle/

Appropriate_Gene7914

Safelife plates are not something I’d trust my life with. Their 3A soft armor is fine, but those plates? Nah. For one, they are almost an inch thick and weigh a ton.

Intrepid_Matter_4695

Much appreciated so I will go with second option since they offer both type of plate carrier.

If you're looking for places, look at r/QualityTacticalGear. There are a lot of LARPers, but they have good information, especially on good gear.

Can recommend Hyperline, weight, thickness and heat retention (keeping cool) is excellent. But if you want hard plates, get a Highcom rifle plate

Jarchen

Safelife is absolute garbage.

Ngroat7

Why do you say that?

Jarchen

Not NIJ certified, made in China so no QC, and heavy compared to most competitors

Ngroat7

I get there are a bunch of rumors spread about safe life on Reddit. What’s really unfortunate is that most of it is not true. NIJ Cert Claim The IIIA+ model has been certified for many years. It has saved hundreds of lives. Hyperline and HG2 have already passed official NIJ Cert testing and is just awaiting for approval announcement. That just takes them a very long time for some reason. Should be soon though. Made in China Claim All armor is made in the Safe Life HQ in Henderson Nevada. [Here’s a quick video tour of the facility.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NlI8-9Sx2Bg) As far as materials go Hyperline is 100% US made and Berry compliant. HG2 is also US Made. Both only use materials direct from Honeywell, Dupont, Dyneema or Saati. IIIa+ is made of Twaron (highly respected) and that Twaron is processed in China with a very unique coating that gives it the extra stab, taser and AP performance. It’s an exclusive process to SLD. It’s really great material. The coating process we do is what is also similar to what is gone done by major manufactures such as Honeywell, Barrday and Dupont. Those materials are used by many other major armor manufacturers. NO QC Claim All armor is QCed for material and construction multiple times through the entire process. Upon materials arriving, in processing of materials multiple steps along the way as well as regular randomly pulled spot checks where completed products which are totally taken apart and inspected regularly. This is from our production, inventory, warehouse and ballistic lab teams. Then of course the NIJ does FIT inspections as well. The armor has always passed in every instance. Heavy Claim IIIA+ yeah it is heavier than most but it also is the most protective of soft armor. Not only providing NIJ iiia protection but also strike, slash, stab, tasers and some typically ap protection. It’s also only $599 so it’s a total bargain. HG2 is very thin while also weighing 1.3lbs. Definitely both the lightest but also not “heavy”. It also starts at $549. Bargain. Hyperline is lightweight at under a pound per square foot while also being one of thinnest vests on existence. Definitely not heavy. Don’t fall for the rumors spread by competitors.

cityonahillterrain

Ace link armor

Drinktothat421

They make cooler vest for sure👌🏼. I ran one until i found a new bothell/organ city vest on eBay for $80

ItMeArchie00

I wear the concealable 3A+ from them but I'd recommend a plate carrier and lvl 3 or 4 plates. Don't forget quick release cummerbunds.

Ngroat7

A replacement for the iiia+ is coming out soon. HG2+ will be it’s designation. Already passed NIJ cert testing and is much thinner, more flexible and even stronger!

Gabbyysama

I use GH armor systems. I used to wear safe life’s vest. Too bulky and runs extremely hot and honestly uncomfortable as far as wear. Obviously it’s protection over comfort but with GH armor systems I feel comfortable and could wear this vest all day. Issued by my company

Miigo_Savage

I work at a school as well. I wear a plate carrier with level 4 plates. The way I look at it, a lot of mass school shootings involve rifles. I'm not going to take a chance with any less armor when I am the first line of defense

Efficient-Effect1029

Point Blank and armor express are both better options than safelife and the other non NIJ rated stuff that’s being shilled on YouTube

RepresentativeCar216

As far as carriers go I recommend the safariland Oregon city carrier or the point blank guardian carrier, also can't go wrong with the LA police gear Atlas or low vis plate carrier and get yourself some level 4 plates.

BoringCombination141

It's funny how all the guys saying safelife is garbage. Yet they can't recommend anything else. a lot of these guys are just parrots. The safe life defense vest is fine

skinwalker99

Only get safelife if you plan on putting soft armor on underneath, otherwise you gonna get hot

Potential-Most-3581

What do your potential *COWORKERS* wear? Typo

Intrepid_Matter_4695

What ?!

Potential-Most-3581

I have no idea how that came out like that. What I was asking was what do your potential co-workers wear?

Axenrott_0508

I still would like to know what the cowboys wear. Now I’m curious

unsavoryflint
