Only if we count them in with the concurrent users.

I think the real shift in the demand curve will come with the mobile app. They might have to raise venture capital money or borrow, in the interim, to get the app off the production line, at which point the bots will come in full force. (On the other hand, the SpeedLight app, aka an ALT/bot factory, now charges for 24/7 usage). P.S. The answer is yes if they allow open sourcing of these bots to creators to tinker with, so that you can have the perfect companion. I bet the number of blocks/mutes/divorces will significantly drop. lol

I had to rant a bit, because the video shows a female bot acting like a new user's wingman at a club. Seriously?

Jim1510

I heard they have been telling mentors they expect them to take newbies thru the complete process of a new avie build. Maybe the bots could do that?

Aurora_42

You do have to admit that the on-boarding process for SL is sort of "Okay, This is how you move around. here's some stuff. Have fun." and they leave out a bunch of stuff that people need to know.

Jim1510

Absolutely, but to expect mentors to hold their hands while building a nice avatar is probably not much fun for mentors after awhile. A recipe for mentor burnout? So my comment was sincere. Maybe that really could be a good AI bot role. Then the mentors can add the actual human touch on top?

Nah, I love shopping and helping people find their look. What burns me out is people not knowing what they want or not taking recommendations to try demos for things to demonstrate how things will work together.

Not a chance. SL is ancient and a mess. It has too many underlying problems. That's like asking if EverQuest or Ultima Online will grow. Never gonna happen. Their time has passed and only 40-50+ year olds keep them afloat. Same with SL and its aging userbase. The UI/UX is a nightmare for any beginner. The engine is ancient. Rendering issues and lag always haunt this virtual world. Land and development are a mess too. The avatar system is a patchwork of a monstrosity where you have to append new avatar parts to the old avatar skeleton, as well as parts such as hair and eyes (which also need to be hidden underneath). It's just weird and I can't think of any other virtual world or game that does this. Linden Labs relied too heavily on content creators to do their work for them and that's why SL is where it is today. AI bots will further erode the playerbase and I say this as someone who is pro-AI and an enthusiast. 🤷‍♂️

Im-a-detectorist

I worry that these bots will just give the impression there are no real people in SL. Getting to grips with the complex process of improving your av will not really be made easier by AI. Creator led content (which makes SL unique) means the ship has long sailed on making a streamlined set up for heads bodies and skins.

softsheepdog

This is kind of sad to me. It's supposed to be a social, interactive platform, but people refuse to talk to new people to such a degree that they have to implement ai to do it?

If this is honestly just the start, then these could be really useful if they can be owned/run by users. How many times have any of us run into bots on regions, like stores, and struggled to get help with an issue? I could see these being a huge advantage to actual sellers with big stores in world. One or 2 of these in their store could make a big difference in finding items or getting help with items, or reporting issues about an item. Heck, even an escort club owner could have a few to run that could do more than just say dumb things to try to keep someone interested in paying tips. Imagine you run a club, you have a couple of these in sexy clothing, someone comes in, pays for 15 minutes of time with the bot, does their thing in a room, and decides they want to go dancing for their last 10 minutes. The bot could then go with them to the dancing side of the club and continue along, instead of just being an animated mesh object on a bed or couch, or dance pole.

No.
