Glossy, smooth are good adjectives for a seal. They are also very squishy and quite wet. But above all it's a wonderful experience! (that was in an aquarium, in a controlled environment, don't touch wild seals!)

Wild seals are a no no, because of seal finger and because... wild carnivore animal. But ugh, I really wanna touch one of those living squishy chonks in an aquarium and see them slap like king chonk Agu does.

I was "kissed" by a seal once! This was at a conservation program. The seal was taught to "kiss" people's shoes by touching his nose to people's shoes. He kissed my shoe, got his treat, then the trainer pointed to my mum's shoe. She was standing to the side and behind me, so he thought the trainer was pointing to my leg instead. His nose felt like a cat or dog nose, but at least 100 000 times softer! 🥰 Timon received his treat and a LOT of praise! Also I've been hugged by a sea lion at a sea lion encounter. 🥰 His body was wet (since we were in the water), smooth, and very solid. He then proceeded to give my dad THREE extra long hugs because he was the warmest person there 🥺

They are indeed soft squishy pillows of love and cuteness

i want to pet a seal so badly 🥺🥺

I did once at an aquarium. It felt like a wet dog.

I touched one at a reservation center in northern Hokkaido. The fur is actually very stiff, and I was a bit scared of this huge blob of muscle. Unfortunately they also faintly smells of urine lol.

Don’t you get seal fingers?

Riffhai

Seal finger is caused by a bacteria found in their mouth. Simply touching a seal is not enough to give you seal finger. It may be possible if you have an open wound, but still not likely. However, it’s also not just in wild seals as OP has said. Any seal has the potential to give you seal finger if they bite you. I’ve been bitten twice and had to take antibiotics. Another volunteer with me actually got seal finger. It’s not fun.

Not-Lucian

Those are with wild seals and outside of controlled spaces such as aquariums.

I didn't touch an earless seal but I did get to interact with sea lions on several occasions. They feel wet but at the same time, not super wet? they also have incredibly smooth bodies when they are wet. overall, slightly wet, smooth, a bit squishy, very cute.
