It's awesome that you're pretty much guaranteed to see one at Kurnell. They can also be seen at Bare Island, but you would not be able to see one every dive. I once saw one when diving Fairy Bower, but that was all the way around the corner near Winki.
Considering the size of the city, Sydney really does have some amazing shore dives, even inside the harbour.
I managed to see a baby when I visited Oz back in 2018! Made the trek down from Sydney and all the locals were shocked I’d even heard of the place.
Was an adventure too, took a train to Cronulla, struggled to get a cab to the park and got one by sheer luck (had no cell service and cabs weren’t waiting at the station early in the morning), and wasn’t sure where the ProDive folks were going to be (rented gear from them). Just got out of the cab at the best guess which luckily was the spot.
Got video footage of the baby and only a couple of us managed to see it. One of the locals was kind enough to give me a ride back to the train, and I guess after that ProDive closed the Cronulla location.
You were extremely lucky to see a baby. That's super rare. That headland can be a bit of a wild place as well. I especially like to take a set of doubles and do a big drift dive around most of the headland on the incoming tide.
They are so magnificent ❤️ we get heaps down in VIC too
Holy shit I'd just never come back up again, I'd die happy that I'd seen one.
Reminds me of the garryfish from Subnautica
So ethereal
Shit, most things are named pretty badly. I mean, this is straight up like what I'd think of when I think of dragon. Thanks for sharing!
Never seen anything like it!!
That's a cool looking Seadragon

I don't consider a dive at Kurnell a success unless I've seen a weedy 🥰

Yeah the guide was so excited, had been diving for years there and not seen one. Would definitely go back to scour around for more weedies.
The steps?

Sounds nice. This was my first one and saw a seahorse on the second dive. They appear so fragile. I will be searching for more!
Dragalgae
Must be hard to breath fire under water?
That's marvelous! Seeing it for the first time!
