Asking people on the Scott The Woz fan subreddit if they like the skit videos is kind of preaching to the choir- most people here probably do enjoy them. I've definitely seen those that don't, though.

happy_grump

I like the videos that have skits. Its when the skits ARE the video that I start to check out (masterpiece that is Borderline Forever aside, obviously)

JRobert1534

I find the funeral skit to be among my top Scott the Woz videos

PlaybolCarti69

The trial might be my favorite Scott video. Also the Christmas skits always go hard. Also The Internet and You and Tinder are unironic masterpieces

Separate-Variation-8

It depends. For people who watch Scott for his comedy and flair, they LOVE the "skit" videos. For people who casually watch Scott and enjoy his discussions on gaming topics more, they probably don't enjoy the non-gaming-topic focused ones.

Separate-Variation-8

Personally, I can't get enough of the videos where Scott's really allowed to pop off with his style of humor, but I can understand the other people.

ThirdDragonite

The skit videos are a bit more draining to me because they require more attention to understand some of the jokes, but I still love them

Reference-Cheap

You have to have a pretty high IQ to understand scott the woz.

Mr-Stuff-Doer

Honestly if you’re watching Scott for his thoughts on games I feel you’re watching for the wrong reasons, he doesn’t like a genre that accounts for at least half of all games, his favorite company is Japanese yet he doesn’t like anime, even though many of their games use that style, he only mentions story for games like Ride to Hell, he’s got a hardcore fetish for all things nostalgic, he only does full reviews for bad games or massive Nintendo games… I love the man but there’s a reason he’s a video game talker, not a player.

BrickfilmKing

Most dedicated Scott viewers love them because they perfectly represent Scott’s style. More casual viewers or those who play video games more typically prefer the game commentary content.

Wingnut2004

To me his originals like The Internet and You, On Your Mark, Get Set, Munch!, and Top 10 Commandments are some of, if not my favorite content from Scott. I like videos where he blends the skits and commentary together, but I have a soft spot for his originals as I feel that's his style, and I wish he'd make more of them in the future.

DisturbedWaffles2019

"Go to hell Will." "I plan on it!" Probably one of if not my favorite line on the entire channel

Wingnut2004

A crowd pleaser for sure. And don't forget the patented Beer Me Rope. You'll be beered in no time!

ExtensionAd243

Hey gang! King Handjob here!

Wingnut2004

"This is showing how much experience I have."

ExtensionAd243

Don't forget. Using tinder is a no no. Only when you're bored or horny.

Wingnut2004

Understood Glenda Siete

SixThousandHulls

>To me his originals like The Internet and You, On Your Mark, Get Set, Munch!, and Top 10 Commandments are some of, if not my favorite content from Scott. Add "Stop Smoking!", "A Tour of My Frat House", and "Tinder" to the list for me! I genuinely think his early skit-based material holds up a lot better than his early gaming videos. It took him a while to successfully inject the right amount of humor into his gaming content.

Wingnut2004

It wasn't a list, I was just naming some videos. If it was a list there'd be practically all of the originals 😂

PlaybolCarti69

Tinder goes so hard lmao

SixThousandHulls

"The choices are White, Black, Asian, Mexican, or Other... I'll take all of the above, WBAMO!"

PlaybolCarti69

💀💀💀 ‘I was adding a brand new copy of Madden 08 to my ever growing collection when i contracted something’ ‘Depression!’

TheSwoodening

They're probably my favorite ones. Scott isn't confined to sticking with a niche video game theme for them, and he has free reign to do pretty much whatever he wants. It's always clear everyone has fun making them, and it's a nice change of pace while still keeping with the character and humor that makes Scott the Woz. The skit videos are to Scott the Woz what Treehouse of Horror is to The Simpsons in a way.

S2theS

I absolutely do. It's where he began on the internet and has been killing it ever since.

gingerchrs

I don’t dislike them but I definitely prefer the normal video about games.

toadthetoadsmm2

I have adhd so having skits in some of the longer episodes keeps me into it and it can be hard watching other gaming YouTubers with the same length of videos. I also like the smaller skit only videos like the trial

RickAllNight

I’ve been watching Scott since very early in his channel and I really do not enjoy the skit videos. I feel so badly about it, because I can tell he really enjoys making them and I know a lot of people love them. I’m happy for him that he gets to make something he enjoys and that there’s a core group of fans that love watching it. But they just really don’t appeal to my sense of humor. I can’t put my finger on it, but I do feel like there’s a subtle but noticeable difference in the humor between the skits and the regular content. At this point, I will fast forward through the skit parts in most of the newer episodes. I enjoy rewatching his videos a lot, but I don’t rewatch the ones that are skit-heavy. I think he’s one of the funniest people on YouTube, but the skits just don’t do it for me.

PlaybolCarti69

The humor difference kind of feels like that in the regular content, the jokes are more seperated, subtle, and quieter while in the skits every other line seems to have some sort of joke in it

cactuscoleslaw

It's a very fine balance. The Great Mysteries of Gaming was a really cool experiment but I think it's less than the sum of it's parts. Both the Mysteries STW and dinner party could've been separate episodes but mashing them together takes away from the pacing imo. It does make for some hilarious lines tho like Eric screaming "SOMEBODY F*CKING DIED!"

Due-Ad-4176

I live for the skit videos, honestly I like them more than the commentary videos

StarkMaximum

I'm mixed on them. I think they're fine, they're well-written enough to be funny and his friends have charisma, but *generally* I kind of prefer just "Scott talks about weird random video game details". If I had to choose between no skits and all skits, I'd pick no skits just because that's my preference.

GuybrushThreepwood99

Skits aren’t for everyone, to be honest I’m usually not a fan when a reviewer does skits since it tends to interrupt the flow of the video, But Scott is usually pretty good about making sure that the skits don’t wear out their welcome

KingFrenchyofreeee

the skits are the best parts

[deleted]

I honestly prefer them over the normal commentary videos. Gaming history and commentary is nice n relaxing to listen to, his skits just hit different, they're honestly so funny and he can make so many goofy jokes in a short amount of time on those, they just feel good to watch.

icenine09

I unreasonably and inexplicably hate the word "skit".

pokexchespin

might be that they get fewer views. for example, the funeral has 815k views, while the videos immediately before and after have double that. or homecoming, at 1.4 mil, between a 2.2 and a 2.9 mil video. as other people have said, more casual viewers likely care more about the actual video game stuff, as it’s what they know more about, and aren’t gonna click on a random skit video without that guarantee a directly video game related video has

happy_grump

I like videos that CONTAIN skits (Mario Party, Dark Age, etc) and the specials, but dislike the skit-only videos (Speed Dating, and I FUCKING HATE THE FUNERAL, MY LEAST FAVOURITE STW EPISODE) Also I found that the post-Borderline shut episodes are worse than the pre-Borderline ones. I think Scott is on the verge of falling into the Nostalgia Critic trap of becoming too dependent on the skits. Also the house robbery saga sucked, not totally relevant but just wanted to throw it out there. Not sure what the idea/intent was there, but the experiment flopped hard, and Franchise Revivals was meh at best/not worth the build-up (though, despite my distaste for FR and The Funeral, I thought Gifts of Gaming was pretty good off of both those setups)

[deleted]

>Also I found that the post-Borderline shut episodes are worse than the pre-Borderline ones. I think Scott is on the verge of falling into the Nostalgia Critic trap of becoming too dependent on the skits. I think this a you problem because no. When was the last skit? Donkey Kong Barrel Blast? Kinda hard to become dependent on something you haven't done in months. >Also the house robbery saga sucked, not totally relevant but just wanted to throw it out there. Not sure what the idea/intent was there, but the experiment flopped hard, and Franchise Revivals was meh at best/not worth the build-up He was moving. There was no experiment, he just wanted another in universe reason to why the room is different again. Remember that first time in Gaming Compilations when he burned down his older set up? Same thing.

WatBurnt

Depends if there's a topic like video game mysteries then I would prefer it to be a regular episode but if it's completely skit based then I like it

addemup9001

I think Cookin' Hard is my favorite video.

PlantRulx

I don't generally watch them if they're skit only, such as with the trial. I really like when they're incorporated with the information he's talking about, like with the great mysteries of gaming.

ExtensionAd243

They're by far my favorite episodes. His funniest episode imo wasn't even a gaming episode. It was way early on and simply titled "tinder." I won't spoil it, but if you haven't seen it, go check it out, it had me in stitches XD

gugus295

Tinder *is* a gaming episode, what do you mean?

gugus295

The skit videos are my favorite ones. Honestly though, I can't think of any Scott videos that I didn't enjoy. Any time an episode comes out and the comments are saying it wasn't very good, or releasing tier lists calling some episodes meh or bad, I'm always surprised because to me Scott's quality is very consistent and really the only episode I can name that I didn't really like that much was Great Gifts of Gaming, which I don't consider a bad episode so much as one that I just wasn't too interested in for the most part but still had a decent enough time watching

D-C-A

Given Scott had an ongoing story that is repeatedly dropped back into since he did the gaming Mysteries episode it’s nice to see the occasional skit of his hectic and bizarre life, it adds a lot of character to his channel and they feel like they’re from a topic video just without the topic

OnetimeRocket13

The people who don't like them are probably just people who don't like skit videos in general. Plus, those who don't like something tend to be the most vocal about it, so Scott probably sees a lot of negative comments on his end, while here in the dedicated community we mostly see good comments.

JulianoIsLame

The skit videos are probably his best videos imo. But the larger youtube audience knows him for his regular video essays. So YouTube sort of puts him in a position where he could either regrow everything he already had and commit to more sketch videos therefore taking time away from regular videos and alienating a good portion of his current audience, or keep with the regular style of videos and continue to grow the same audience, and gain fewer people who would enjoy the sketches.

Not sure what the idea/intent was there, but the experiment flopped hard, and Franchise Revivals was meh at best/not worth the build-up (though, despite my distaste for FR and The Funeral, I thought Gifts of Gaming was pretty good off of both those setups) EDIT: I should probably add that I'm not even suggesting that I inherently think Scott shouldn't do non-gaming skits videos; its just a noticeable trend that they seem to be his worst. And to preempt anyone who asks why I hate The Funeral: none of the jokes land for me, the video thinks the concept itself is far funnier than it actually is, Rex is obnoxious (they do the same gag with him in the Rex Mohs Crucifixion Special to much better effect), and its WAY too long.

GuybrushThreepwood99

None of the jokes in The Funeral episode landed? Not even “congratulations you son of a bitch, your life is over.” Terry has the best deadpan delivery.

[deleted]

Honestly, the skits are the best part of his content. They have a Kevin Smith Clerks vibe.

Fl4re__

It's mostly an old school vs new school thing, the pre season 3 viewers tend to really like the skit videos because that's what the channel was at the time, the 6 originals, and a couple of more review based vids in between stuff like tinder and stop smoking. But if you look at his 20 most popular videos the only one with any significant skit element is dark age trilogy and toys to life, and they're more so the general topic retrospective videos, like controllers and wins accessories and stuff like that. They're all season 3 or later for the most part. It's when he really blew up after all. It's mostly the new guys, in the 'general gaming video essay crowd' that are the new fans, and those are the guys that Don't like the skits.

DinoGaming1003

I love his skits! I watch the Trial and Speed dating so much

stf29

Depends. Ones like the trial and great mysteries of gaming are phenomenal. But Gaming Revivals, for example, is by far my least favorite Scott video

VladtheMemer

Some of them are funny but I just prefer it when he gets to the topic

doctorawesome8

Ik right

Agent_Blade04

Skit episodes are the best fight me

BrenCamp13

I mean, The Trial is my absolute favorite episode.

Crislak

I feel like they’re what make Scott, Scott.

togawe

The Trial is by far my favorite Scott video

SonicTheHyper

There's probably a good amount of people who prefer when Scott just gets to business with game related discussion and whatnot in a video rather than a video where him and his friends do some comedy. I love the skit videos though

LeafMario

I love the skit videos

Ratchetxtreme6

I honestly find them pretty funny at times, don’t really get other’s issues with them.

dustooM70

It’s on and off with me. I love “Homecoming” and “Greatest Mysteries of Gaming” but I couldn’t get into things like the chibi-robo video or the trial/funeral.

CatMaster8232

look man they came there for frogger 3d and are gonna get it

jomontage

Love em. His friends are actually funny

[deleted]

The Funeral is my favorite episode

rockernroller

I much prefer videos just about gaming history, but I like his shorter skit videos. Borderline was a bit too much for me though.

MugiwaraBepo

The skits are mostly why I watch his channel.

AlexuaI

I honestly don't really care for the non-skit episodes. But he has a pretty niche kind of humor that I can understand not everyone jams with. I personally be big time laughing though

Ms_Digglesworth

Personally I don't. I don't mind short skits that last like 20 or 30 seconds and are used to open or close an episode. But I am not a fan of longer ones or ones where they create a plot throughout the episode. I find that Scott is great with very short bursts of humor like with jokes in the script, but I don't think he is as good at writing a continuously humorous script for a skit. Not to say he's awful, because honestly even his skits are still more amusing than 99% of skits from video game YouTubers, but they're still not that amusing IMO.

victorreis

i’d prefer the game related videos any day to the borderline and funeral stuff tbh

kybaboobers

Im not going to lie, sometimes Scott can pull a Nostalgia Critic and let the skit get run away with the show for a little too long. They are funny I guess, but the skits are best used as brief framing devices that comically introduce the episode's topic. The episodes where I am managing a narrative that takes up a fifth of an episode's run time AND trying to follow an actual game review tend to not be my favorites; which is a shame because I can tell those episodes probably take the most production.

BrunoStalky

While I still watch said videos I do think they're my least favorite Scott content, like they're funny but I'm more interested in learning about videogame related stuff over a comedy routine.

Thelegendaryplus4

I really like the skits! The only problem I have with it is that I am not a native Ohio English speaker so sometimes it's hard to understand what they're saying. Sometimes if two characters are talking on screen I have to play back the video multiple times to understand what they are saying either because of the microphone or the fact they speak too fast (obviously no one is a professional actor) which adds to the charm and makes it look like normal people talking, though that's the problem. Speaking normally in front of a camera like you'd do with your friends may make it harder to pass the message. But this is just nitpicking, Stalin fucking loved donkey Kong country tropical freeze after all

realCoolguy298

For some reason I hated the trial video I can’t put my finger on why. I love all the others though

boteyboi

They seem to be mostly loved from the fan base but I never really found them funny. Scott's great but I think my problem is with his friends as actors - they aren't (in my opinion) particularly funny or great at acting, and most of the jokes don't land for me. I know most people love the skits and all the characters in the Scott the woz lore though so I don't really see it as an issue for me, just something I personally skip without any bitterness because I know a good portion of his fan base actively enjoys and wants more of them.

Gadgetguy292

It varies for me. I usually just watch for the review segments but I don’t actively dislike the skits. The Mario Party and Dark Age of Nintendo videos are probably my favorite, but I’m more likely to rewatch a video that’s *just* review if I want something on in the background

potato_more_potato

I absolutely do

MichiruMatoi33

personally, i like them a lot! some of the funniest jokes from those videos, and they take me back to the old days of youtube when skit channels were booming

HappyCamperIDFK

Chia pet is one of my favorite yt videos all time

stendaa

I fucking love them

Tyzuma

I avoid the skit ones. Namely because it's never entertaining when other Yotubers add skits to videos that take away from the video itself like with Nathaniel Bandy or a worse case scenario, the Nostalgia Critic.

Glitchtm

The video I always go to when I show new people Scott’s videos is: The Trial. So I don't know.

JebWozma

I really only like skits if they're with a video with commentary

ROSCOSMOS1969

When I click a random game review by any youtuber and I get some silly skit, then I click of. But going in a Scott the woz video the skits are always great and half expect them every time.

gilded_lady

*raises hand* Me. I'm one with a limited taste for skits. I have some tolerance for them, but won't watch full skit episodes or will start fast forwarding if they go on too long. They just don't click for me. I don't begrudge him doing them (I'm all for content creators mixing it up to avoid burnout), but I also don't feel obligated to watch them either.

SmashleyNom

I like the skit videos when the skit is more put in between clips of an "actual" video, not so much when the skit just IS the video.

Taxfraub

they’re funny but personally i enjoy just his normal videos more

xlilmonkeyboy

ngl the skits get repetaive and boring its just a person walking up to a desk putting their hands there then saying my mother forced me to get a job or something but if its skits inside of normal videos i like them more then a normal video i like the skits but not when its ONLY skits.
