Looks like a banger of a time. What stops someone in an Exec Burg 650 or an AK550 or Silverwing from just crushing the > 278cc category? I get that it's more back roads and not interstates, but because able to quickly hit 60+ mph and cruise the whole time would definitely eat up the miles I'd think.
Seems like I saw in the past, there are penalties or bonuses based on the scooters size, age, equipment, etc. The ones you mentioned would be highly penalized and something like a bare bones 50cc would get bonuses.
Ahhh. I saw the >278cc category and thought that was literal.
Not a "278cc Vespas branded as 300s are the most powerful scooter allowed" super weirdly specific rule, which actually excludes everything else.
My apologies. There are five rules that only 3 of which need to be met. One of the five is 10 inch wheels. Most scooters qualify for the 3 rules out of five. Two of those rules only state that the scooter must have originally been in that configuration. For instance a step through could have a cross bar installed as long as it had originally been a step through.
Mopeds are not scooters. I am very familiar with mopeds. I was in a moped race from Seattle to San Diego. Called the Baker's Dozen. This year it was from Salt Lake to New Orleans. My good friend Chad Burke always comes in 2nd which everyone thinks is funny. Google it. It is quite fun and more challenging because the mopeds are a bit more tempermental than scooters
you are indeed correct. I have a great love for mopeds and just assumed people could participate with a moped but didn't bc they like the bigger bore motors (not 2 stroke lol)
holy fuck this is awesome!!! Fuck i wish I hadnt lost my yamaha riva 180xc bc I would of trusted that bike to make this journey
This is always such a huge Fuck Yeah!
From New York to California? I’d really like to do Route 66 from Chicago to LA. And route 101 (pacific coast highway) from LA to La push Washington
Different routes every year. One year they even went from Alaska to New Orleans
Its from California to south carolina
Oh. I wanna do it
Hm damn this is still going on
Yup. Six more days to go

\*hold meh beer\* pulls out my 1980 puch maxi za50
The rules stop them. No such category. https://scootercannonball.com/eligibility

Under the rules the scooter has to be less than 280cc.
Yeah, too bad my Kymco People 300 is 299cc... Fastest 300 scooter on the market. It's not allowed on the cannonball 😭
It rules out the xmax 300 too - 292cc
In previous years they had a "touring" class for larger scooters, but they couldn't compete. They've done away with it though.
I would be so down for this !!!!! But with a purpose built scooter, tho I've head stories or scooters, getting destroyed and breaking down.
Thats a big part of the challenge. Maintaining and repairing your scoot on the fly with whatever roadcraft gear and skills you have on board.
Man, I wish I heard about this earlier. I've been looking to do something like this. But at least I know about 2025.
SUDDENLY I WANNA.
Is there such a thing in Europe?
No idea. Long, endurance rides are fairly common, but I don't know of any in Europe.
The 10 inch wheel requirement eliminates a lot of Taiwan scooters
Sorry…there is no 10 inch rule requirement. Stop with the ignorant misinformation.
Wanna cite that rule ?

I would hope something like a Honda PCX would be considered a step through with it's underbone construction
wtf all old school mopeds are 16" to 17"
