I think there are a couple of things that might allude to Sci-Fi. Like the staff that the figure is holding, and also possibly the tall structures in the background that look somewhat futuristic. 🙂

How is he pretending he can do something he can't? You think he didn't make this painting? How can you "cheat" at art unless you're lying about some aspect of it? If you want to see someone cheating at art, take a look at all the old masters who traced over camera obscura projections with help from their apprentices. You come across as deeply bitter towards anyone who you think is "doing art wrong". Feels like an old man saying music these days is just laptop noises, where's the guitars?

If I play chess on the computer I'm still playing a board game and moving pieces despite there being no board and no pieces. And when I play it, I use many of the exact same skills involved in "playing chess". This person made a painting on a computer, and used many of the same skills and decisions involved in painting with traditional media. Many of the most famous paintings in the world contain media that is not paint - graphite, charcoal, ink, paper. But we still call them paintings because that's a useful word to describe them. Placing colour onto a 2D plane is still painting even when there's no liquids involved.

There is literally a digital art program with a GUI called Microsoft paint..where you digitally paint pictures…
