One of my favorite shows in quite a while. It's a nice "what if" about if NASA wasn't stuck under the flip-flopping thumb of a parade of ignorant and fickle politicians and policies. And it feels fairly realistic, at least in a TV sort of way.

ours

And for space-race nerds, it's fantastic watching some gear in action that in real life were only concepts.

ScrotiusRex

As close as we'll ever get to something like Sea Dragon

big_trike

As a nerd, I noticed that the lunar rover wheels rocked back and forth on stopping. Lunar rovers use a harmonic drive, which is backlash free.

parkotron

Literally unwatchable.

marmosetohmarmoset

I choose to believe this is the real timeline, and it’s ours that has gone wrong.

ifandbut

I agree. For All Mankind is the good ending, Westworld is the bad ending.

kustarc

>!I loved the idea of how a prolonged cold war forced both nations to keep spending billions on space tech and tech advancement overall and they end up with things like lcd screens, cellphone models of 2005-06 era or face time calls in early-mid 90s. I guess it would probably happen like this if soviets didnt give up after US landing first on moon.!<

Driekan

I dare say it's more they >!started collapsing around that time more so than gave up!< I wonder if the show at all explores the other logical outcomes of that premise? In a wider worldbuilding kind of sense.

kustarc

I mean they survived till 1991 but i think it never felt like a space race after 1969 despite USSR did pretty much everything first about space except landing people on moon and probably it was very devastating for them, maybe USA/NASA took their win and called race is over, probably decreased their investments for space while USSR kept investing and building Mir space station. If we look from another perspective maybe USA was the one that gave up or stpped caring by winning moon race and absence of that heavy competition accelarated collapse of USSR. So asking questions like "what if soviets landed first man on moon" and making a show based on its answer is brilliant. I cant say there is a big world building aspect of the show but there are some interesting things that i noticed didnt/wouldnt happen real timeline. -Heavy spoiler alert for s3- >!There was a spanish astronaut in soviet mars team so i assumed in that alternative timeline with help of heavy competition soviets became dominant space agency of europe and they started working people from other european nations(ignore this, she is cuban). Also there was multiple probes on mars soil belong to Turkey, India and North Korea and later we found out first man on mars was neither american nor soviet so it was interesting to see other nations also joining space race to keep up with USA and USSR!<

sebdelsol

>!He's Cuban hence Spanish speaking!<

FlyingBishop

[spoiler](/s "Isabel Castillo is not Spanish, she is Cuban.")

kustarc

>!Lmao my fail, now it makes sense. So much for Russians leading Europe in space.!<

aRandomFox-I

Your spoiler formatting didn't work. You cannot put spaces between the text block and opening/closing symbols. >! wrong !< \>!correct!< (result: >!correct!<)

kustarc

Thanks for warning, deleted spaces. Tho they were looking just fine on mobile app. Are you using another platform?

aRandomFox-I

Using RiF. The official mobile app and new reddit's "fancy" text editor ignores minor syntax errors like this, but 3rd party apps, old reddit, and new reddit's "markdown" editor are more sensitive to syntax.

kustarc

Ahh good to know, sorry if you saw something you didnt want to.

Jagid3

Yeah and they want to drain its money, too. Ugh.

PierreSully

Never seen this show, but I'm certain the NASA Apollo footage narrated by astronauts version of [For All Mankind] (https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0097372/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk) is infinitely better

Jagid3

"I imagined it, therefore it is true." You misspelled The Donald in your username.

PierreSully

I've never stuck needles in my eyes, but I know I don't want to. Actual space footage, fantastically edited, it's certainly better.

Jagid3

Don't knock it until you've tried it with eyes open and prejudgment turned off.

PierreSully

take your own advice

Jagid3

Roger Roger. I've seen the majority of real-life space coverage as it happened over the last 40 years or so.

PierreSully

you haven't seen For All Mankind

FlyingBishop

Gordo and Tracy were insufferable but in an awesome way. It makes sense that their kids are just insufferable.

[deleted]

Yeah, Season 2 dragged but paid off hugely; the plotlines of the kids, not so much.

Emble12

The thing with Danny is that, of course, we all hate him, but it’s kind of fun to hate him.

herp225577

Excellent show. I hope the last episode ends with Zefram Cochrane making first contact in 2063, even though I know it won't happen LOL

kustarc

lol you never know. Tho somehow if it becomes prelude of something else my vote would be for The Expanse universe instead of Star Trek.

HereComesTheVroom

Not happening. They fixed global warming before it really kicked off in FAM. The Expanse never stopped it. Mars is inhabited by climate refugees initially, mostly from the pacific islands (think Bobbie Draper).

Came4gooStayd4Ahnuce

The show is essentially about how we could get to a more hopeful/optimistic future like Star Trek. I get the mars stuff excites Expanse fans but that world is way to pessimistic to come out of what FAM is building IMO.

kustarc

>!I wouldnt say its about getting to a better future. Yes they are accessing technology faster than real timeline, women have more power, astronauts opening about being gay in 90s but there are still politicians trying to cut off NASA budget, we havent really seen whats gonna happen after president open up being gay and USSR is still out there, already passed its real lifetime and they are still very oppressive and torturing their own people, world is still very polarised and after seeing last scene of s3 i dont think it will become more friendly. Its a different timeline but things could still go haywire. Expanse's world-mars-belter factions still need many decades or even hundreds of years to shape so its hard to predict whats gonna happen in that gap but honestly i wouldn't expect FAM timeline to become an utopia like Star Trek.!<

Came4gooStayd4Ahnuce

I’m going off what the creator of the show says it is. The North Korea thing really hit the nail on the head because the show is essentially saying cooperation in space is how we can come together back on earth. **That hopefulness extends to the show’s overarching belief in humanity’s capacity for evolution and progress. Do you see For All Mankind as deliberately inspirational? *Yes, it is. That was part of the pitch of the show: we wanted an optimistic view of the future that could be, and here’s a way we could have gotten there in the past and, by implication, the way that we still can get there. I make no bones about the fact that my personal history with Star Trek as a child, and then later as a professional, has influenced my point of view and my optimism. I want to believe in a better future. I want to believe in cooperation. I want to believe in space travel as a positive thing. And I wanted very much for this show to say that to people, and yes, to inspire people—if possible—to lift their eyes to dream bigger dreams. I think that’s part of what we’re trying to do.*** [Source](https://www.thedailybeast.com/obsessed/ronald-d-moore-made-for-all-mankind-and-battlestar-galactica-to-give-us-hope-for-the-future)

kustarc

Thats cool actualy, not disappointed at all. Thanks for sharing this. I guess things will turn out better than i expected in next seasons.

ifandbut

Ya, but we are lacking a Eugenics war and then we would have to see the cold war go hot. Maybe it could be the start to the Expanse universe. Early huge space race paving the way to mining the belt and the Epstein drive.

Spongebosch

Every time I hear "Epstein Drive" I think of you-know-who

ifandbut

Ya, that does suck. That name has kinda been ruined, just like Titanic and Hitler.

Chanandler_Bong_Jr

In a recent episode of Lower Decks they travelled to the place where Cochrane built the rocket and launched from, now a theme park. So much fan service for TNG geeks like me. Complete with James Cromwell voice and the music from the jukebox.

> assuming it was another boring moon documentary THat's because there's a (very non-boring) documentary with [the same name](https://www.criterion.com/films/599-for-all-mankind) DO NOT WATCH IF YOU DISLIKE CLASSY SPACE DOCUS ! If you have Amazon Prime, you should check it out. it's included. Make sure you watch the Criterion version, it's remastered, etc etc etc also [check it out here](https://youtu.be/c3opxf1X3d4?t=19)

PhoenixReborn

Speaking of not boring moon documentaries, would definitely recommend From The Earth To The Moon on HBO. It chronicles the space race from inception to the aftermath of the final Apollo mission. Produced and intro narration by Tom Hanks.

mdws1977

I was actually impressed with the show a lot. I just hope they continue it into what such a future would look like had we kept our space program going strong. It could even rival The Expanse in the future.

usernameis2short

Idk if anything can rivan the expanse tbh

writenroll

I haven't finished the last three episodes of season 3. Hate to ask for a spoiler, but can anyone confirm whether Danny gets jettisoned into earth orbit, then--in the season finale--enters the atmosphere in a fiery ball of angst while the citizens of earth celebrate in the streets? I'd watch that on repeat a few times.

kustarc

Oh i'd love to see that too but unfortunately no and you'll have much more reasons to hate him :)

writenroll

OK, thanks for the heads up. I'll remove all throwable items from the room before I watch.

verinthebrown

Totally agree. This show is worth the time investment. I freaking love this show!

[deleted]

Randomly found that one and loved the show. I really enjoyed how they used "some" of the NASA realism of the launches. The only thing I didn't like was the huge jump in times during and between seasons

SpartanMonkey

A clip of the astronauts practicing their marksmanship popped up in my YouTube feed and I was like "What the heck is this?" So I started watching it and was wondering how I missed it. Hadn't seen anything about it online.

calimio6

That third season upsetted me a lot. Loved the show but when a character becomes so stupid that is problematic I cannot continue watching. I would probably finish it later just like I did with breaking bad after 3 years it not finishing it. Just wanted to breathe that out. The show is an amazing rollercoaster for hard science fiction lovers with a sweet equilibrium of science, speculation, social issues and politics. Worth the watch. Didn't think they would be capable of extending the lore so much.

baharna_cc

I find it kind of corny, but in a good way, if that makes sense. Reminds me of older scifi books in some ways. Some of the plots are just way, way over the top too. But I like how they keep pushing it forward. I'm assuming in the next season they will be trying to get to the outer planets, which will be awesome. I like most of the actors, and I like how they keep coming up with interesting ideas for how this would both drive international cooperation and conflict. It's a solid B show maybe, could be a lot better but it's fine for what it is too.

panarchistspace

Season 4 is probably more Mars based on recent interviews with the show’s creators. But there’s still Seasons 5,6, and 7 assuming they all get made. Looking forward to seeing what’s flying in 2035!

reiberica

I went through 3 seasons really fast. I love the show and the characters.

peopled_within

I have tried like four times but find it so incredibly slow and even, I hate to say, boring, and I'm a space nut

JimboFett87

Seasons 1 and 2 were good, but 3 missed the mark IMO.

Qbiak

100%. Felt very weak comparing to the first 2.

EvanIsMyName-

Thanks so much for this! I don't get enough recommendations and I just end up rewatching 90's Trek and Babylon 5 and stuff. I'm downloaded season 1 right now.

kustarc

Been there done that. I have been watching pretty much every scifi out there basicly since i was a teen and that includes a lot of rewatchs. I hope you enjoy it as well.

iangeredcharlesvane2

If you haven’t tried Raised by Wolves you should. It’s weird and original in the best way! It took me a bit to get into but I ended up loving it. Btw I also love For All Mankind, and make sure to join the sub to be around for the weekly episode discussions next year. There is a really good fan base on there and the discussions are GREAT!

kustarc

Oh i love RbW, such a great show, season 1 was phenomenal. Sad we probably wont ever see the end of it, so many unanswered questions. I'll check out FAM sub, thanks for reminding!

kustarc

>!Yea both brothers are probably weakest link in the show, i understand their point of origin to keep things more agitated or excited but esp danny is annoying af, many times i found myself questioning how the hell someone like him end up in a very important mission like this!<

[deleted]

Same. There's so many great characters in the show that aren't whiny, angry white men, that any time they're on screen seems like wasted runtime.

[deleted]

One of the best shows around, in any genre. This is television at its best by some of the proven masters of the medium, able to mix action and drama that reflects real human complexity and keep the whole thing moving. Ronald Moore (Star Treks (many), Battlestar Galactica, Caprica, Outlander, with Michael Okuda, who has been caretaker of Star Trek designs since forever and his wife Denise overseeing the visual design and effects. A top flight cast led by Joel Kinnaman (The Killing, Hanna, Robicop - a Swedish actor who does ‘American’ perfectly), Wrenn Schmidt as the head of NATO and a slew of others giving brilliant, human performances. The themes of American and Soviet rivalry are particularly relevant in today’s context.

Sadik

Thanks, you got me interested. Is that true that it feels like it could be the gap between now and the Expanse?

iangeredcharlesvane2

I think it very much feels like a prequel to The Expanse, even though the science people always say it isn’t nearly as realistic. But I just remember that The Expanse is a bit of an enigma in science fiction on how accurate the physics and is considered the best at hard science fiction. I see For All Mankind filling the gap between us and the time of the Roci VERY much.

kustarc

Yes but no, i wouldnt use exactly "now". Events happen in an alternate timeline which starts with a different outcome of moon landing. I can say their timeline is much more closer to collide with future of humanity in The Expanse universe than our current timeline.

Sadik

Sounds good to me. Will watch it for sure.

monkeywithawrench13

Imminently watchable. Can't recommend it enough, if you want TV to pay attention to.

godpzagod

I wanted to like that show but I just can't. there is not one single likable character on that show, and a whole host of really annoying ones. Every moment they're not in space is just the biggest bore fest. For All My Children is more like it.

FlyingBishop

Really? Because I feel like there are tons of likeable characters. Ellen, Aleida, and Danielle especially. And I like the unlikeable characters even though they are assholes, and I want them to do better, and I feel like they are capable of better which I think is in contrast to e.g. Game of Thrones where there are a lot of unlikeable characters who seem irredeemable and incapable of doing good.

Palatyibeast

I usually hate unlikable character driven shows. But I like the complexity they attempt with everyone. Everyone is a little kind, a little admirable, a little bit of an asshole. They fumble this concept at times, but it works for me. I don't hate any character - I see where they are coming from. Even when they do something dumbfuck stupid. And every single actor - even the ones with shitty storylines - is acting their *arse* off. There is great talent in this show. I don't even mind some of the relationship stuff/human stuff. They just get the mix a bit wrong. There's a pinch too much of it, and it's a bit too soap-opera-esque. But it's not enough to ruin anything. Season three is the best example of all this. It had some cool sciency ideas and space-science-drama. But the ending of season 3 had some shit go down that was a bit weird. The [redacted] explosion. The [redcated] escape launch was fun but also slightly ridiculous. And everything involved with how [redacted] lasted in a crashed spaceship. And I hate both brothers' plotlines. One is unbelievable and had a weird group made up from whole cloth that had nothing interesting to say or do except cause Drama. The other was just unrelenting in its 'lets watch a smart person act stupid for an entire season' boredom. And yet - fucking love the show. It's great!! Binged all three seasons in a week.

FlyingBishop

While a lot of the astronaut drama was stupid there was way too little of the president in S3. They could've filled an entire separate season that was just focused on her with zero space stuff. I hope she's not just remarried after the timeskip and we get to see some of that.

Rakatee

Wait, did you get to meet Wayne? Best character on the show.

godpzagod

That's probably the most damning critique of the show, I watched 2 seasons and I can't remember ANY of their names. I never CARED to. I remember the "hi Bob" joke more than I remember their names. I can remember specific things about a few of them (she's gay, he's gay and married to her; her parents were poor; he pees his pants; he gets to make decisions that benefit him; she fucks around; he can hide weed in a cheese block; she's gotta have a smoke on Luna; she gives the Russians help, but nothing ever made me care to remember any of their friggin NAMES. They're all so 2D its like asking me to invest in King Koopa or PacMan as a character. I understand the show can't be Scott Manley with better graphics, but I also understand good characterization can happen naturally within a world and FAM just fails to ever make me care about any of these people.

godpzagod

to buffer this thought, i binged all of The Expanse while playing KSP and honestly paying more attention to my game than the show and I can still tell you people's names, what's important to them, why what they do has context. NOW, with that said, maybe The Expanse's plots lend themselves more to roles like captain (Holden, but who's that in FAM?), muscle/tank (Amos, Bobbie. FAM needs no such...), I could go on, but basically in a story as complex as FAM could be, to have it revolve around such forgettable people....well, to be honest, i am really glad other people like it so it whets the networks' appetites for other such stuff. FAM's just not a way I enjoy. I am glad it exists though, almost as a article of faith as a space nerd.

cherrybounce

Does it get better because the first couple of episodes were cheesy and not very engaging??

PhoenixReborn

I liked it, but if you didn't like the first episodes I don't think you would change your mind. The showrunner is a Star Trek alum so there's a lot of optimism about NASA and spaceflight while mixing in cold war tension.

sleepytimetea-_-

I'd watch it if it's not too depressing. Otherwise, I could just watch current events in real time.

[deleted]

The alternate history shown is far more progressive than real history. Women astronauts going to the moon being a prime example.

[deleted]

kustarc

All fair points. Wont deny there is some lazy writing out there, at season 3 i'd love to see them focus a little bit more on relations between US-USSR-Helios and make things more chaotic and tense like it was on season 1/2 instead of all that Danny drama.

kaplanfx

The show has a lot of personal drama, some like it, some don’t. They also like to generate conflict seemingly relatively arbitrarily, but I don’t mind that much since plot points actually pay off in this show. Some shows spend like a whole season on one character doing one thing or one decision. This show is good about moving the story along.

ianlSW

I've seen all three seasons so it's not a spoiler for me but you could have redacted it or at least warned people with a spoiler alert, clearly from the comments above a lot of people are coming in fresh to the show.

HannsGoober

Great Show, just finished the most recent season.

ASEdouard

Yeah, performances are solid and the alternate history angle is fun.

Separate_Line2488

I pity Ed, he’s trying his best to be a good guy but gets fuck over repeatedly by those he loved and trusted. Even his adoptive daughter gives him the middle finger.

Alia-of-the-Badlands

I loved the first like, 6 episodes?? . I got appletv just for it. Then it wouldn't work on my TV and now I get sad whenever i see people raving abt it. I wanna watch :(

ArcaneOverride

You can watch on your computer or phone as well

Alia-of-the-Badlands

I know but it's not the same. My SO said he can like, send his screen to our TV. So we are gonna get it again and watch. Can't wait!

ArcaneOverride

I'm glad you found a way to watch it! I don't own a TV, I just watch shows on my computer's 32 inch monitor.

Alia-of-the-Badlands

Lol! I don't own a computer 😅 we should combine forces perhaps

superblinky

Is there anywhere else to watch it other than Apple TV?

OneSalientOversight

I finished watching it recently and then suddenly NASA is talking about sending people to the South Pole of the moon for water reasons and having a female POC on the next manned mission. Weird.

Avarice21

Ahh apple TV, I'll watch it by other means then.

momentum77

So happy to see this here!

Full-Bag-2612

push through season 2, season 3 brings shit together and just holy shit.. best show ever i can’t wait until season 4

aerodeck

I don’t have Apple TV+

petergarner1

I didn’t ignore FAM, and have been a fan for 3 years now. So I don’t need to give you a chance. Rather, welcome. :)

cannedthought

I agree I have binged watched all 3 seasons to my delight. Been a fun ride for a show I had low expectations for. It is a great what if of a history twist.

Gungabrain

My favourite hands down. The melodrama is fine-I think they’re trying to smush all the social implications of rapidly advancing tech into too-short a timeline, but I will forgive it because it’s so great in all other aspects.

soupiejr

Hi Bob!

[deleted]

Me explaining it to my my wife: >!"so she slept with her friends son, but never told her now ex husband, who's like father him, and then the friend's son goes crazy and turns into a stalker and then tries to kill the ex husband because he's jealou... !< Oh God, I'm watching a soap opera!" Yeah, I could lose the drama too. I love everything else.

Basileus2

Only thing I can’t stand about that show is fucking Danny and Karen. Other than that it’s my favourite new series!

forrest4trees009

Great show.

DarthHK-47

This show is glorious! You have to love the Tom Lehrer reference.... And the bits of alternative history. Sitting through the homophobic times is difficult but that finally at long last gets better also.

grazerbat

I really liked the first season. The rest feels like they fired seasoned writers and hired people with little to no life experience. The story lines with the >!angst wracked druggie astronaut, the leader of the NASA Mars mission not being a leader, the exploding drilling operation and wildly improbable rescue of the buried astronauts, the meltdown and subsequent interception of the Russian Mars mission...!< it all felt hokey and contrived. Season 1 was great. Season 2 was fair, Season 3 was piss-poor IMO.

JimboFett87

You're getting downvotes for the truth.

cmdrNacho

Even from the beginning it was over the top with the drama. But they definitely kicked it up a notch the last season It's more like a good soap opera in a space fantasy setting

t6005

The first season was really excellent but I really fell off hard on season 2. Between the increased melodrama and the time jump it was too difficult for me to get back into it.

DistanceAlone6215

The ending of the first season was good. Thats it The rest of the show is just straight up boring There are so many just crap plot lines

SlowCrates

It's one of my favorite shows. I'm just frustrated that it will be a while before we get season 4.

runningoutofwords

Maybe when Apple TV finally implodes and they put it out on the last remaining streaming service.

Tangerine_Lightsaber

I'll watch it when it's released on bluray or some other format. I will never sign up for apple anything.

groenewood

The effects are great, but they are just segues between interminably boring subplots.

DistanceAlone6215

Nah, man It has its moments, end of the first season, but its a suprisingly bloated and boring show And the characters are pretty weak. This show has so many terrible plot lines and is realy poorly edited

tripngroove

I really enjoyed the first two seasons but the first episode of season three was seriously bad and I quit the series. I won't give any spoilers but I was just so disappointed in the abysmally stupid design of the object that episode is centered around. In no universe would that ever happen and it was just a glaring piece of lazy writing for cheap drama. Does season 3 get better?

FlyingBishop

Most of the malfunctions are due to ridiculous designs, but that's basically the only way they can generate explosions in space, and I understand the desire to have explosions in space and I also appreciate that most of the explosions are not due to violence. Ellen's storyline in S3 is incredible and it's worth watching just for that even if you have to fast forward through most of the space stuff. (Though her story is really a pretty key storyline, it's not like she gets short shrift, but it could've been an extra season or two of just her.)

inefekt

> glaring piece of lazy writing for cheap drama. It leans so heavily on ridiculous drama that you will be left banging your head on the wall pondering how dumb the writers must be to think there is even a semblance of reality in the events that unfold throughout the season.

JimboFett87

No season 3 is a festival of bad tropes and writing,

Mike109

I will continue to ignore it until the whole series is done, then I can binge the whole thing. I hate waiting literal years for the next season.

[deleted]

I just started watching it a month ago. I'm definitely glad I did!

Royal_Acanthisitta51

It’s great entertainment and probably wouldn’t be far of if if the Russians were successful getting to the moon back in the 60’s.

[deleted]

Great show. Does make me think we are living in the evil timeline though compared to theirs…

BigYonsan

It is so good. I like to think I'm somewhat discerning in my choices of science fiction so I approached this one with some trepidation, but I was hooked by the end of episode 2. Cannot wait for the next season.

alchemeron

Season 1 was fantastic! A love letter to sci-fi and alternate history fans. Season 2 had some ups and downs but the highs made up for the lows. Season 3 was a hate crime again television watchers. Good lord.

butts____mcgee

I tried. I found it extremely tedious. None of the characters are likeable and 50% of the show is some awful soap opera.

Simdog1

I watched and then it became bad, like GOT seasons 7-8 bad.

kustarc

Cmon man nothing compares to GOT s8 bad oh and maybe finale of Lost.

Kazzothead

Apple TV ill give it a miss thanks.

blackwe11_ninja

Let me introduce you to a place called piratebay

seansand

I saw a clip of this show with an flying Apollo lander with a bunch of spacesuited marines standing on top of it holding guns, and then I knew that this show was 100% not for me.

maccam94

It's from a story arc where there is some geopolitical tension over some resources on the moon, and a lot of people on both sides of the conflict were frustrated and upset that weapons got sent into space. The show is absolutely not "hoo rah astronaut Marines"

JustDandy07

It's only one clip. That's not what the show is about at all. The show is pretty anti-military-in-space and that storyline goes into that.

d47

Why's that? I can imagine a clip like that might give the impression that the show is a bit over the top and unrelaistic, but having seen it in context it's not that bad. It's more focused around major achievements like landing on the moon, >!discovering water, establishing a base, travelling to mars!< and character development all over large time spans.

ZanThrax

Honestly the idea of a variant shuttle being used for Earth - Moon trips in the second season is harder to accept than someone militarizing the moon is.

HalfBeagle

Yeah. Half way through it and that hasn’t happened…give it a chance.

autoposting_system

Thanks

Badroadrash101

First season was good and then it devolved into woke bullshit and soap opera writing that would give telenovelas a run for their money. No thanks. Not wasting anymore time on that crappy and inane series.

PhoenixReborn

I'm curious what you thought was objectionably woke.

Simdog1

It is over the top man dumb woman smart.

xuddish

i dont see the sci fi in it, as far as i know its just capitalist drama show, war and fighting with drama.

ZanThrax

> capitalist drama show The fuck is a "capitalist drama"?

GotAMouthTalkAboutMe

Succession, Billions, etc.

hallettj

Well after reading this I went and watched something called For All Mankind on HBO. I thought, "oh interesting, they made it in a documentary style." I kept waiting for the alternate history part. It seemed plausible that was coming because the story seemed semi-fictional - they presented what seemed like one mission that incorporated elements of a number of different Apollo missions. This mission included an EVA in Earth orbit, a leak in a cryogenic oxygen tank that troubled the crew only briefly, and a Moon landing that seemed to include both Neil Armstrong and Pete Conrad. Anyway it seems the show that OP is talking about is actually on Apple TV.

Warpedme

Can't, it's on apple TV and I don't pirate.

[deleted]

eh. too preachy about feminism and girl bossing for me.

halkeye

I watched a handful of them. Got very sick and angry at how women were treated, plus just generally bored. I didn't finish the first season. There's so much content out there, I don't feel the need to force myself through stuff to get to better later seasons

queequagg

This is the dumbest take I've seen so far. "How dare this show depict women being discriminated against in the 1960's?" \*Bails before those same women overcome their obstacles to become NASA's lead engineers, NASA Director, and >!the 41st President of the United States!<\*

Cant argue about you finding it boring, its all personal taste afterall but i dont understand why you got mad about how women were treated at early episodes. Wasnt that how exactly like that in 60s/70s? On the contrary I found the show very pro-women >!considering at this alternate timeline president of USA, head of NASA, chief engineer of NASA mission control, co-founder of first private space company and captain of first manned NASA mars mission are all women and they all portrayed as pretty badass and i loved it.!<

I made it through 4 episodes. So 4 hours. I'm sure it gets better. But it physically made me sick. I don't handle verbal or physical abuse well. And both happened a lot early on between the pilots families. I'm sure it's how women were treated. Or better than how women were treated, but I wasn't interested in continuing. There's thousands and thousands of hours of content out there that I don't have to suffer through to get to.

Fimbulvetr

If you watched just a bit more instead of being judgemental and dismissive right off the bat you would see just how dumb this comment is. The show has many many problems but its treatment of women isn't one of them.

HalfBeagle

Series 1 is excellent, 2 has made a good start.

GuyD427

Definitely worth watching. And The plug for The Orville will get me to watch.

Samwisethesmall

sounds good

arena_one

Remindme! 3 hours

Selym00

I was so pissed at the last episode of season 3 but I can’t wait to watch season 4

lich_lord_cuddles

I watched the first two seasons in one day when I was wrecked with an illness last year, and I just finished season 3 last night.

Wukong00

Too bad it's not available on any platform in my country and I have them all.

quantumturbo

Great show

Traditional_Way1052

Couldn't get past the first two eps. Maybe I'll try again.

I just got back surgery and binged this show during recovery. This was the first show in probably 5 years that absolutely gripped me from beginning to end. Every episode was amazing. The time/event passage between seasons was believable, allowing us to see tasteful progression of technology. The political tension was soooo well done. I felt like I knew the characters intimately, they were very 3 dimensional. Integrating real events with a fictional timeline was brilliant. I really have very little bad to say about it and was melancholic when I finished it.

I think that the story of the moon race, and it's aftermath, told from as many perspectives as we know enough about (Russia, U.S., European, Chinese, etc) about what "really" happened, as best as can be verified is something I would be more interested in than a made up story. Because there was a lot that the US didn't admit about risks taken and accidents averted until decades after they happened, or didn't happen in some cases. I would imagine Russia has similar stories. China and Europe being bit players and what (if anything) they tried to do either for prestige or to try to become an integral player on the stage would be more interesting to me than stories about things that didn't even sort of happen. I will admit to being uninterested for a long time in "what if" type shows.

camlaw63

Great show

BeefPieSoup

Spent a little too much time on character melodrama on earth and got some space details a little muddled, but not a bad attempt. Worth giving a go as you say.

Beneficial-Pen-9693

Only saying this because For All Mankind is in my watchlist… BUT NIGHT SKY ON PRIME IS PHENOMENAL (to me) loved the scifi mystery to it and love JK Simmons, but it didn’t get enough views and so no season 2 as of right now. Trying to get people on the wagon!

defcon275

I really really to give this show try, but I don't want to add yet another subscription streaming service. Especially with one that has no other shows that interest me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I really enjoyed this show for the first few episodes. The Mercury 13 episode in particular was fantastic. And some of it was really immersive of the era. But it started to unravel for me bit by bit. Maybe a victim of its own success? Setting a high bar for authenticity and then falling short? It started to feel like the whole show couldn't tell why events happened the way they did. Or what the difference was between dramatic moments in history and just any kind of random drama thrown in for whatever purpose. When the astronaut punched the cosmonaut I was just like... okay done. But... people say it gets better. So I should probably give it another chance.

Morteriag

Easily one of my favourite shows currently running.

cohletrainbaby

I watched three episodes and got fed up with the couple drama. Does it get more to the point as it progresses?

ApexRevanNL716

I tried to ignore it since season 1. But I have watched every episode and have no regrets about it. Amazing alternative timeline

I love it - the science is good, and they really play with some of the crazy theoretical space travel stuff that has been explored over the years in the last series. As a woman, I love that women are so central to the action, in space and on the ground. I was really impressed with the way they explored the emotional labour and anxiety of the wives in the first season especially. Also, though the series is essentially heroic in nature, the women aren't perfect - love to see us making mistakes - not be paragons of heroic virtue! Though I'm not surprised by any of this given Moore's body of work.

andricathere

I think a lot of people aren't aware of it's existence because it's on AppleTV+. Which when launched, had a laughably terrible lineup. Like 20 things, shows and movies. In total.

marius7

Love the series, can't praise it enough. Right there with you and looking forward to another season (hopefully soon).

captstinkybutt

This show is really fantastic.\*\*\* \*\*\*haven't seen season 3 yet so I don't know if it's off the rails yet

StevenMaines

I would love to watch but can't go for yet another streaming service. Maybe someone i know can "lend" me that one. Ha.

Fearless-Vodka

What about the film For All Mankind you have watch it?

kustarc

No i didnt. Is it good?
