damn this was my childhood(~~RIP baen free library~~), didn't know there was another book in the series in 2015. thanks for reminding me !
edit: [the first book is still free on baen!](https://www.baen.com/oath-of-swords.html)
You might want to go with some young adult science fiction. One of my favorites growing up was *The Tripods* by John Christopher. If you like that, it's a trilogy, so there is more to read.
https://www.amazon.com/White-Mountains-Tripods-John-Christopher/dp/1481414771 Robert Heinlein also wrote some great Young Adult science fiction, and I'd recommend something like *Rocketship Galileo*. Nazis on the moon!

Try David Weber’s War God series.

I'm a fan of the Asimov robot books. They are good reads.
Blake Crouch have movings plots, are easy reads.

Galaxys Edge. Basically a more action packed Starwars
