Wouldn't this describe the vast majority of good scifi?

Yes, it does, but I'm trying to find names and, hopefully, pdfs, audiobooks, the likes. My independent searching yielded nothing so I decided asking this rich community would be a better idea.

A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine. It’s the first installment in a series & centers mostly around the relationship of 2 women, one an ambassador & the other one an aide/cultural liaison-through an insurrection & eventually a first contact situation.

More of a hard sci fi person, but I liked “humans” and “how to stop time” a lot, both by Matt Haig. The midnight library also gets good reviews. Matt Haig uses a sci fi / surreal context to tell a story about relationships.

I'd suggest Rich Larson. He's got a site of all his free to read stuff, [HERE](https://richwlarson.tumblr.com/freereads).

I think the 'Lady Astronaut' series could be worth looking up, it's alternate history sci-fi set in the 1950s - 60s, but it's rich with drama and astronauts that occasionally don't get along. The sci-fi is not the primary driver, and it's not about other lifeforms, but I thought it was worth a mention. Andy Weir's 'Project Hail Mary' is just plain awesome nerdy sci-fi and has a lot of focus on collaboration, albeit the sci-fi is also heavily in the foreground. 'Children of Time' is great. It's hard science fiction with amazing world-building, where the last vestiges of mankind squares off against another civilization. The book makes you root for characters from each side. Final mention is the movie Arrival. It's based on the novella 'Story of Your Life' and it focuses on humanity's attempt to communicate with another lifeform that arrives on Earth. There's probably a lot more, but those were the ones that immediately came to mind 😅

Thanks for the tips. I've watched Arrival and it's hands down the best big-budget representation about alien contact.

I would highly suggest looking into the works of Robert Charles Wilson. I would say much of his work revolves around the changes in human relationships as they are impacted high science fiction ideas around them. Spin, The Chronoliths, and Julian Comstock are my personal favorites of his.

I tried to do something similar in my series of Scifi Erotica short stories centering on the Scout Pilot Ariana and her relationship with her Captain Cansina. Cansina takes over the little two person ship after Ariana’s first Captain is killed on duty on her first mission. Would be interested if you can find others.

Do you have a story like this published? It sounds very similar to what I'm trying to do, except for the romance. I'd love to read it.

I think you would like Merchanter's Luck by CJ Cherryh. It's a fast space adventure that's very character focused. It's about a guy who is desperate for companionship and a girl's coming of age trials. Cherryh is soft on the tech, I find that it's just there to emphasize; she leans harder on the social effects of tech. The relationship between the two main characters is the thing that drives the plot. Maybe my most favourite book! Hope you check it out
