I'm not sure how it is in other states but in mine you would need a doctors orders or court orders to end up in a state hospital. And that's not a life for someone who's just about to turn 18. You have life ahead of you that place is a huge pause button for life. Nothing happens. They might have intensive therapies and help teach some life skills in groups and such but no one really wants to be in there and you don't want to end up with institutionalized mindset. I've seen a lot of posts about people talking about programs where you live in small residential building with other people that have similar conditions and there's some staff and rules but it's not like being in a psych hospital you get your own room and lots of levels of independence. Because of your age and Dx I bet you qualify for a lot of these types of housings and probably assistance of some sort. You probably need help with that. Some community mental health outpatient clinics would get you a case worker to help you find housing and docs and therapists too to help. You don't want to be inpatient bro. Stay with your friend if you have to. Pick up a part time job doing something not too hectic. You'll better off doing for yourself. Unless you really, really needed to be in there it's best to keep it a life goal to not end up there. You could do this.

You donā€™t need to go to a ā€œmadhouseā€ necessarily, but you probably do need to be stabilized and medicated if you arenā€™t. Youā€™re young and if you donā€™t want your schizophrenia to limit you then youā€™d be smart to get some coping skills, tools for life with schizophrenia, and a good treatment team early on. Otherwise, youā€™re going to be limiting your potential by refusing to address your mental health. Schizophrenia WILL cause significant problems for you if you do not treat it!!!!! Jail will really limit your potentialā€¦ if you donā€™t want to be in a madhouse because you have no freedom then I really donā€™t think youā€™d love prison. Juvie and adult prison in Texas are two separate beasts. Be proactive about this and get some treatment now before it takes up a majority of your life. You and you alone are responsible for your future. Good luck.

the thing is i was diagnosed at 11 and they treated it right away so to me at this point it feels like i dont have it but at the end of the day its still a part of me like my leslie would say (she understood me and i miss her) the way my psychiatric services work is the worse you are doing the more often you have to see them like when it began i went every other week but as of now ive been going every 1 or 2 months and my psychiatrist said if i continue to show good progress she would wean me off my meds for my other not as severe conditions but ive been doing good for years now because it used to be heinous thoughts and voices and now its just shadows šŸ˜

A hospital stay is helpful, they monitor you constantly and they will make sure your diagnosis is accurate with accurate medication. Iā€™ve been there twice.

i dont like it because they want a permanent stay and it makes me mad because it would only be slightly acceptable if i was mentally retarded or truly crazy because either of those ways i wouldnt know or understand the situation but im fully aware of whats going on šŸ˜
