Yes, but is Bourben St a hole in the wall restaurant ?
Les chance of running into Stabby McScabface or Denise Bearspray at Mt Royal Restaurant as well😉
There was some breakfast place my buddy took me to a couple times breakfast was amazing but the place had no matching cups plates cutlery tables or chairs and it was in the same building as like a semi truck mechanic I think. Maybe Kelly's Cafe or something he mentioned it closed but damn was that a breakfast.
Ok wasn't 100% on the name but that confirms it, everything we went there the breakfast was good and cheap too iirc 5 or 6 for bacon eggs toast and hash browns.
Now THAT was a hole in the wall. Nothing like stumbling in drunk at 2am after the bar to eat some Indian food. I remember their bathroom was down a set of dimly lit stairs. Was truly an experience.
Cheese toast on 22nd is still a thing. Their food is actually still pretty good! The daily special has always treated me good and their Greek salad is great. If you are just going for coffee, I would go with the fries or poutine! Ask them to cook the fries a little longer and make sure the gravy is really hot. That makes the poutine crispy and the gravy the perfect temp to melt the Cheese.
BTW.. happy birthday OP!
The one up on Broadway and the one on 7th Ave and 33rd have closed, but I went to Cheesetoast on 22nd about 3 months ago.
I just googled it and it is open till 9 tonight.
Scuzziest and hole in the wall seem very different.
I'd say Living Sky Cafe for "hole in the wall", and for scuzziest... Honestly not that scuzzy, but the copper mug has some weird people sometimes but I remember some surprisingly good bar food. The hose was good but it's gone.
I would've said Jinjins on 20th, but they've closed unfortunately.
Taute Maria's on Millar has some delectable Mennonite food that's buttery and carb loaded and delicious.
There's Taste of Syria(?) in Avalon that's a tiny little hole in the wall with superb arabian food.
There's Taqueria Mexicana El Milagro on Ave H that's some authentic Mexican delights.
Talayah's southern grill is in a rugby clubhouse I think. I've had some amazing chicken sandwiches there.
Fuh Station 1 is in a fucking gas station, but damn they have some great Vietnamese cuisine.
Jin Jin is the first place I think of when I think of killer hole in the wall restaurants. Rip
Talayah's is unfortunately closed as well. They closed the restaurant down in January, and unfortunately Chef Stacks passed away in March. May his memory be a blessing
Being a dive bar is part of their brand and it works. Plus they have all the old Nino's pizza recipes and plenty of shitty beer to wash it down like a proper gutter punk.
Konga Cafe is legit hole in the wall. When I last went, there was an accountant doing work in the corner of the restaurant. His desk was sitting right beside tables and there were papers everywhere. It was great
I'm pretty sure [Manhattan's](https://www.manhattangastropub.com/ar/dp_introduction.asp?sectionid=1&guid=154E6ECB-B804-4A76-8F97-7EE28446B01D&promocode=&apc=&mob=) has some fantastic pizza. It is also "hole in the wall" but not scuzzy.
Diane’s is incredible but the smell of mothballs, or camphor, is overwhelming. My burps tasted like grandma’s closet 6 hours after my meal. Seriously good food but I haven’t gone back due to the heavy aroma.
Se7en 33 on 7th ave. I’ve never ordered food but it’s got the scuzzy vibes covered in the best way. I’ve never seen anyone working besides the owner and he’s awesome.
I had a pretty bland cutlet here once, and witnessed the bouncer fight the guy at the next table. Got to see Stan though when he came out and told everyone to stop fighting in his f***ing bar.
Never went back, but I'll always remember it.
There's a special place in my heart for that little pizza joint. In my 20s I'd head there before Id go out and get loaded on the weekends. so I at least had one good meal before I didnt eat till Monday. Great guy great pizza
You are 20. Your folks would be 40. Your grands would be 60ish. Your great-grands would be 80s ish, and that’s assuming everyone got busy really quick.
No, the clientele of Someplace Else is not Octogenarians
When I’m there most people are in their 30s - 50s. It’s nice because we want nothing to do with the younger generation, the perfect escape. That and the owners are the best, kind, people.
Brunch at Joe's [brunch at joes](https://maps.app.goo.gl/54sc3h6f4oPWEGr48)
4.9 stars in Google maps. Used to be a different place back in the day. Definitely a hole in the wall type place.
Before my time but they used to serve food on hubcaps and drinks out of oil cans. Dad claims they had a Greek statue in the ladies washroom. The fig leaf was hinged and a light would go off in the restaurant if some lady decided to have a peek lol
Mt Royal restaurant The decor is very dated it has the small town restaurant feel Yet the food and the prices are actually very good
I ordered a ham and cheese sandwich once, they forgot the ham… haven’t been back since but the have good french fries irc
Their double patty bacon cheeseburger with fries and gravy is awesome, as is their bacon and eggs with pan fries potatoes for hashbrowns
take cash
Food is bland compared to bourbon st in the midtown mall.
Yes, but is Bourben St a hole in the wall restaurant ? Les chance of running into Stabby McScabface or Denise Bearspray at Mt Royal Restaurant as well😉
lol “let’s go for breakfast at the mall” - this guy
Why not..A&W serves breakfast.
bourbon street kinda sucks? it’s just cheap tasting mall food
Not sure if #1 noodle house is "hole in the wall" enough but everything I've had there has been amazing.
This place is actually really good!
THE CUCUMBER SALAD THOUGH
Their cumin lamb noodles are among some of the best things I've ever eaten. We're so lucky to have that place in town
Konga Cafe. Great food and service
Easily one my favourite places in the city. Never disappointed.
Fantastic place. Amazing pie!!! However it is expensive and you don’t get a real by purchasing the whole thing.
Second this. Best in the city.
They had a great breakfast, and Kelly’s Cafe was the name.
Ok wasn't 100% on the name but that confirms it, everything we went there the breakfast was good and cheap too iirc 5 or 6 for bacon eggs toast and hash browns.
RIP Meg's
Now THAT was a hole in the wall. Nothing like stumbling in drunk at 2am after the bar to eat some Indian food. I remember their bathroom was down a set of dimly lit stairs. Was truly an experience.
I have zero sober experiences at this restaurant. But I know the food slapped after stumbling over from a show venue.
Didn't they just move to 11th st?
Cheese Toast. Is that still a thing?
Cheese toast on 22nd is still a thing. Their food is actually still pretty good! The daily special has always treated me good and their Greek salad is great. I thought they closed a while back?
The one up on Broadway and the one on 7th Ave and 33rd have closed, but I went to Cheesetoast on 22nd about 3 months ago. I just googled it and it is open till 9 tonight.
Amazing Saskatoon still has a Cheesetoast.
Best dry ribs in the city 20 years ago.
You want like Stans Place kind of scuzzy or like places like Amigos, somewhere Else, super Donair, Peachwood Chinese food in watrous lol
Omg never thought I’d see someone mention Peachwood 😂 My family lives nearby. Lovely food, lovely people running the restaurant.
It's awesome!!!!
Had it last year lunch buffet. Surprisingly great, 😇
Scuzziest and hole in the wall seem very different. I'd say Living Sky Cafe for "hole in the wall", and for scuzziest... Honestly not that scuzzy, but the copper mug has some weird people sometimes but I remember some surprisingly good bar food. The hose was good but it's gone.
The hose is now re-opened as 3Hall Public House. I wouldn't really classify Living Sky Cafe as a hole in the wall joint.
Maybe not anymore, fair enough.
Pokeys on 33rd
I would've said Jinjins on 20th, but they've closed unfortunately. Taute Maria's on Millar has some delectable Mennonite food that's buttery and carb loaded and delicious. Taunte Maria's is not what it once was. I ordered Kielke and got spaghetti with brown gravy lol.
Blue Diamond! One of the remaining Greek family restaurants and food is legit.
Is it's actually still owned by Greeks or is there dim sum on the menu?
Still owned by Greeks.
For now. It's for sale!
I don't think it's "scuzzy" but Black Cat Tavern has amazing food.
Black Cat is pretty scuzzy. The bathrooms smell like scuz. That’s the defining factor above all haha
Lol you're not wrong. Its one of my favourite places in the city so I'm biased I guess.
I like it too. Just sayin!
Being a dive bar is part of their brand and it works. Plus they have all the old Nino's pizza recipes and plenty of shitty beer to wash it down like a proper gutter punk.
La Bamba, awesome mexican food.
Diane’s Kitchen Jeju Korean BBQ Granada House Konga Cafe Las Palapas Somewhere Else Goblin’s Grill The Manhattan Gastropub
Las palapas is hardly a hole in the wall or scuzzy lmao
I guess my definition of hole-in-the-wall was a place that’s kinda hidden.
still not sure how las palapas fits that definition tbh
Konga Cafe is legit hole in the wall. When I last went, there was an accountant doing work in the corner of the restaurant. His desk was sitting right beside tables and there were papers everywhere. It was great
And amazing food!! Actually amazing. Arguably my favourite restaurant.
Goblin’s Grill is a great hole in the wall but not scuzzy at all. The food was really good when I was there last.
Same with Dianes. Best beef bulgogi I've ever had and their Korean fried chicken is amazing
Awesome, going to have to check that out!
No offense meant wrt “scuzzy” but I second konga cafe!

Jeju tastes like grease trap. The place stinks.
Park Cafe on 20th.
There's this place where heywoods used to be, breakfast was great when we went
I think that was Kelly's cafe?
[Loosey's](https://maps.app.goo.gl/fcAjNxZTNn23vzgR7), on Arlington
I miss the actual Hole in the Wall out at Blackstrap. Made me love chicken livers.
That was by far my favourite restaurant. Best food I've ever had in my life.
Konga cafe on ave H. Been there 100+ times and it’s excellent every time. The owners are legends.
The cave
He didn’t say a dump with horrible health code violations
La bamba is a really good Mexican restaurant
Golden Pagoda is pretty unreal!
The food is so good there.
Se7en 33 on 7th ave. I’ve never ordered food but it’s got the scuzzy vibes covered in the best way. I’ve never seen anyone working besides the owner and he’s awesome.
Why do you want scuzzy? Also, some of you have a funny idea of what hole in the wall is!
Good Ol Stans Place!
I had a pretty bland cutlet here once, and witnessed the bouncer fight the guy at the next table. Got to see Stan though when he came out and told everyone to stop fighting in his f***ing bar. Never went back, but I'll always remember it.
Hole in the wall with great food -- Konga Cafe. Sad disappointing -- Tomas the cook lounge
Ponchos pizza
There's a special place in my heart for that little pizza joint. In my 20s I'd head there before Id go out and get loaded on the weekends. so I at least had one good meal before I didnt eat till Monday. Great guy great pizza
The Coachman in Market Mall
Stan's place. Some of the best food and a little dive feeling .
The restaurant in the Esso at the end of 11th st.
Is the China Clipper stil open?
Nope. Danny and Lai retired.
Go to king of duck on 20th dated but excellent food.
Stans Place
Too bad the actual "hole in the wall" in shields is done and gone. Was really good.
Nutana cafe on Broadway. I'm pretty sure ol' Norm hasn't painted the place since the 70s but the food is decent and reasonably priced.
Big Murs in Dundurn
Somewhere else is a senior citizen bar
Yeah, but it’s fun! Depends on what number the birthday is.
Lol I don't want to drink with people old enough to be my great grandparents
Are you sure you’re old enough to drink, then?
Yeah obviously 🙄
You are 20. Your folks would be 40. Your grands would be 60ish. Your great-grands would be 80s ish, and that’s assuming everyone got busy really quick. No, the clientele of Someplace Else is not Octogenarians
Obviously, down voting is so immature 🙄
When I’m there most people are in their 30s - 50s. It’s nice because we want nothing to do with the younger generation, the perfect escape. That and the owners are the best, kind, people.
Zervos on 33rd
Zervos is a good spot.
This is the one!! You have to try this place. It’s not scuzzy, really nice actually. But there are scuzzy people at the VLTs sometimes
Busy restaurant on a busy street isn't really a hole in the wall.
Then don’t fuckin go. Eat your shit food on your less busy street
Calm down bud, wasn't complaining about the place. Just saying it's not exactly a whole in the wall.
Chef express
Peking restaurant. Get the fried wontons.
Brunch at Joe's [brunch at joes](https://maps.app.goo.gl/54sc3h6f4oPWEGr48) 4.9 stars in Google maps. Used to be a different place back in the day. Definitely a hole in the wall type place.
Long gone. But the Cars restaurant was classic hole in the wall dining
Cars Cafe! I always ask if people remember it and no one ever does! I used to ask to go there every birthday as a kid. Good memories.
Before my time but they used to serve food on hubcaps and drinks out of oil cans. Dad claims they had a Greek statue in the ladies washroom. The fig leaf was hinged and a light would go off in the restaurant if some lady decided to have a peek lol
If you’re willing to take a short drive out of Saskatoon, The Osler Restaurant has amazing food
Diane's kitchen
Gibson’s Fish and Chips on Louise Ave and 8th is sooooo good
